But it wasn't terrible. And the animations were like 2 seconds at most.
not the animations, the animations were good that's why i was using it as an example i just meant the multiplayer was terrible itself, so laggy and crap
I was at E3 and got the opportunity to play the pre alpha demo of BF3. Oh my god... everything was so smooth with animations, we were put into squads of four on pc's. Our other teammates were bots and the enemys were bots as well, it was kind of hard to tell that our teammates were even bots the way they were moving. I had the chance to shake hands with one of the developers, Lars Gustavsson, I also asked him if the option to play the role as commander would be coming back, he said yes but it won't be like commander in BF2 we all know and love. We all got dogtags with our names on them. I'll post some pictures later of the EA area this week possibly when I leave Los Angeles. Some cool things I noticed... when you play support and hand out ammo, instead of selecting it and then having to throw it, you just throw it when you hit 3. When you put a LMG on a bipod you don't have to aim down the sight so it feels like one of the stationary mg's in BF2 except with aiming and being able to mount it anywhere. The lighting was gourgeous when we exited the subway, I cannot get over how smooth the animations are and how you can look down and see your legs, I haven't seen my legs in a game since FEAR. There's a health % meter in the corner, it's just a number though. I didn't notice a kill cam.
Health Regen?
They've said Engies' get Flashlights.
well the flashlight could just be an attachment for multiple guns, it's just that in the demo they said they pre customized the kits and then locked them so people could get a taste of some of the different things
-A certain multiplayer map (likely 'Heart of Paris') seemed 100% infantry only (can't confirm that 100%) and partially taking place partially in an underground subway / rail station. With very much a flow and choke-point kinda setup not typical for BF. Watching the players it seems as if the map is close quarter battles and looked very similar to a COD type level comparatively to stock BF2 kinda action. Players spawned on players and flashlights were mounted on the guns, which appeared to be dynamic lights and shadow casting and slightly obscuring vision when pointed at player (this could've been the bad camera angle though)
This map + The announced Deathmatch mode = the most played thing in BF3 upon release. I don't even care how bad that would be, it's true just due to the nature of how bad it is.
the most important question hasn't been answered yet: can we bring down the Eiffel tower?
the most important question hasn't been answered yet: can we bring down the Eiffel tower?
Nope, at least not in MP. You can see it in the background of the Operation Metro gameplay trailer.
Nope, at least not in MP. You can see it in the background of the Operation Metro gameplay trailer.
that's not exactly proof that we can't, bound to be more than 1 map in France
that's not exactly proof that we can't, bound to be more than 1 map in France
Although that would be totally awesome, what about the height? :( It couldn't fit in the map if it was on scale, or it has to be half real, half skybox...
Health Regen?
Yes, there was health regen. I don't remember the regen rate though. It was like BC2's.
Also if the Eiffel Tower is just a skybox or in a unreachable area, it could happen in victory scenes that it'll go down.
I thought most of the victory scenes in bc2 kinda sucked. Only me?
I wonder how they will integrate commanders now. Their role will probably change a lot...
There was something interesting I saw, when using the spotting button ( same as bc2's ) I noticed something. On one of the enemy bots was a star floating above his head instead of a triangle. I asked one of the EA people there about it and they said it was the enemy squad leader and that it's good to kill him because he's basically a spawn point. Though when I died I could spawn on anyone in my four player squad, does this possibly mean squad leaders once again? [editline]10th June 2011[/editline]
I thought most of the victory scenes in bc2 kinda sucked. Only me?
No victoy scene in the demo we played, just a viewing of the score board and text saying YOU ARE WINNER ( just kidding, it was just Your Team Won ). Though this still is pre alpha.
I thought most of the victory scenes in bc2 kinda sucked. Only me?
Most of them were unimpressive explosions on top of scenery, but some, like the ones from Arica Harbor were really cool.
Those guys talking about it in that Youtube video said the enemy were people from DICE playing in Sweden. Is this wrong?
Yes, there was health regen. I don't remember the regen rate though. It was like BC2's.
Could you destroy things? And if yes, is it like in the trailer?
Screw it, I'm cancelling my BF3 preorder with game.co.uk. ... and going down and reserving a copy at GAME Castlepoint so I can be there for the midnight launch. The hype's just that awesome.
:saddowns: Game can't be perfect, I guess.
I don't think health regen really does anything negative or detracts anything, it allows all classes to be a little bit more self-sufficient and not have the situation where you run into a fight and get shot and then be completely ineffective until a medic heals you. you still heal faster with a medic, but being crippled the whole time is no fun.

I know damn near anything and everything can explode and collapse, but I have a question regarding the buildings. Say you just randomly blow up the front of a building next to you - a large apartment building like in the trailers. Would I be able to travel straight through said building by blowing holes into the walls to enter and exit? Or would it explode, and just rubble collapses and covers the hole? If it's the latter, I'll be disappointed.
Some cool things I noticed... when you play support and hand out ammo, instead of selecting it and then having to throw it, you just throw it when you hit 3.
This was in Bad Company 2 on the console. Don't disagree if it's a fact.

But I remember looking at a building and seeing a bot inside, it was where someone shot down the walls with an LMG or something. I can tell you though it was way more detailed than the destruction in BC2 for buildings. All cover is destructable, I remember being prone with my bipod deployed next to a corner and a sniper or something shot at me and hit the corner of this wall ( in the subway ) and the corner was chipped from the bullet(s). Everytime I died it was from a sniper somewhere. The health levels reminded me of BF2's. When I chucked a grenade it didn't go very far, I had to hold the grenade button to get a farther throw, unlike BC2 where you can get the farthest throw from just a tap ( I think. ) Some other things... I was in the APC gun for a second and I could see around a lot more as opposed to BF2. We were given a ACOG sight for our LMG and when I was aiming down this sight I was reminded of the acog sight in the first Crysis. More things will come to mind later on. [editline]10th June 2011[/editline]
This was in Bad Company 2.
No? Well I always selected it and I would be carrying it first and then I'd throw it. Was this on consoles?
This was in Bad Company 2.
On PC it used it's own inventory slot so you could carry it around and throw it whenever. On consoles if you pressed one of the directions on the D-Pad the player will automatically throw it.
:saddowns: Game can't be perfect, I guess.
There will never be a perfect battlefield game, BF2 wasn't perfect. Nade spam, bunnyhopping, the jump prone thing amongst other things and other battlefield series games. No game is perfect. Doesn't mean that it can't be amazing, and this game is from what I experienced at E3. Besides... at least it isn't MW3 that is for sure. Oh and by the way, have you guys heard about the dog tags?
You spent 500$ for E3 tickets or do you work in a game company/are a journalist?
I work for a game company. [editline]10th June 2011[/editline] You'll see... it's nothing big... [editline]10th June 2011[/editline] Did you guys hear about the new dogtag system? [editline]10th June 2011[/editline] Oh yea I also remember trying to jump over something like a fence or wall, and instead of the normal jump or being asked to climb I automatically climbed over legs and everything being shown in front of me.
Did you guys hear about the new dogtag system?
I heard you choose what stat you want on your dog tag, like kills, deaths, etc. and when they look the dog tags screen they see all the stats up to date and everything. Right?
