I sure hope EA changes its mind
Heh. They locked it. :v:
I have no idea if this is legitimate or not but apparently this is all the fault of EA's marketing department and DICE has nothing to do with it.
There's probably no chance that anyone is going to see this comment but I'll leave it anyway. I have a very good relationship with a person at DICE, who I don't want to out, who came to me when the physical warfare pack was announced to get me to look through forums to find feedback about the pack that he could give to his superiors at EA. He was upset that they had announced it without the go ahead of DICE and wanted to show EA the reactions of the community.
So yes, the exclusives suck but it was EA marketing that did this and DICE knew nothing about it.
Lets cause an uproar like what happened to Bad Company 1.

I knew DICE has nothing to do with it. They're too nice, damn you EA.
It's annoying cause DICE actually would have such a better chance of denting Call of Duty's sales if they didn't give us shit like this. Let us buy the game on Steam and don't keep content away from us and there will be nothing to complain about. Buying a game shouldn't give you a headache, but with EA that always seems to be the case.
Oh great, I'm getting a bigger monitor which is cool. However, I doubt my GTS 250 can handle the higher resolution with Battlefield 3.

Who gives a fuck about Battlefield denting CoD's sales?
EA, obviously.
Who gives a fuck about Battlefield denting CoD's sales?
The company trying to make fuckloads of money by denting CoD's sales.

What resolution are you gonna be playing at?
What really ticks me off is the possibility of Back to Karkand being Origin exclusive. Fuck Origin, I don't care if I only need to run it once. I don't want to worry about 1000 different accounts. I just want to use Steam. I especially don't want a service ran by EA. I don't trust them.
The commercials and trailers always said, "Pre-Order for free Return to Karkand DLC." It would be stupid to suddenly change it like that.
[editline]12th June 2011[/editline]
Also to those who are complaining it won't be on Steam, wasn't Bad Company 2 not even on Steam until a few weeks before the game released?

Yeah, but it was the limited edition without any missing content. That might not be the case with BF3.
Who wants to bet :10bux: that if EA hadn't pushed their Origin service then BF3 would be pretty much exclusively on Steam/Retail. If EA hadn't even been a part of DICE then I bet this whole DLC fiasco wouldn't even exist.

What it'd only be on steam and on stores? EA would sell it in EA store, as well as D2D, gamestop digital, and the other digital retailers. Confining it to just steam and retail would be a bad move on their part because that's hindering sales. I'd bet they'd just plop it everywhere like what they've done now.
Also EA has a habit of not putting up their games until the last second on steam to secure more sales even before Origin was released. They did it with DA2, DS2, Crysis 2 (?), Darkspore, and others. They're probably just going to put the game on steam in the last one to two weeks before release. Just because somethings not there now doesn't mean its not ever going to be there, be patient.
[editline]12th June 2011[/editline]
Also what's the big deal about Origin. Really the only difference between the EA store and Origin is that EA said "We're going to compete directly with Steam." And now everyone's getting all defensive for steam. Its pretty much the same god damn thing and EA is a company, profits come before Origin. They will release their stuff like they always have.

To be fairly honest, this would pretty much apply to almost every developer/publisher partnership ever made.
Honestly, a lot of these DLC issues, as well as problems with quality and such, are mostly caused by the publishers pushing it upon the developers. In fact, if developers had the capital to distribute their games en masse and thus did not require publishers to do it for them, not only would Battlefield not be half as bad as it is now, both DLC wise and outright quality wise, but Call of Duty and Medal of Honor and many other series. Look at Valve; they have no real publisher and they have much more room to develop at their own speed and they only push paid DLC on the console systems, and that's only because they have to (at least as far as the Xbox is concerned, not sure about the Playstation).
DICE should be alone, publishing.
Then we wouldn't have the animation system in BF3 we have now. I'm saying EA is a good thing, but the partnership allowed DICE to further improve their games. Unfortunately/inevitably EA asked for things in return, and you can't just bite the hand that feeds you. Honestly I'd be fine with just the Karkand pack since its almost like a sign of good faith that the consumer believes that the game will be a success. The exclusive pack is the one I dislike a ton more.
The weapons are most likely reskins of other weapons.
Wait, BF3 retail preorders dont have Back to Karkand?
or do I just suck at understanding things
This is all that is exclusive.

One gun, a suppressor and an ammo type? The game is BROKEN and UNBALANCED FOREVER
That's just one retailer. There are more exclusive shit.

Well Amazon and Gamestop say their preorders come with Back to Karkand
I loved the humour in the first BC, I don't understand why they didn't continue with the characters being amusing instead of cheesy. Though I did enjoy how they pulled the piss out of CoD MW2 a couple of times in BC2.
because a lot of reviewers and people complained that the characters were annoying
they used the same characters in BC2
Heh. They locked it. :v:
It was locked before. :eng101:
I always buy games like this retail, and since I have to upgrade my PC first anyway, I'll just buy the kharkand pack later.
The weapon exclusives are so EA it's not even funny, though. I wouldn't be surprised if Dice ended up making them free later on.

Kharkand pack is exclusive to the limited edition.
Kharkand pack is exclusive to the limited edition.
No, it just comes free with it. You have to buy it otherwise.
Medal of Honour preorder supposedly gained you access to BF3, I'm still waiting. If it only gains you access to the public beta coming up this fall I'm going to be pissed.
