After Hanako's good ending (which I got) I kept replaying the ending and the song "Breathlessey" from the game in my head for days and days, I couldn't get the picture of Hanako on the ground crying with Hisao comforting her out of my head, it made me so sad

this has been addressed by the devs in the ask thread on the KS forums before
way back in the original draft rin's route had a 'canon' ending but they scrapped that, and then didn't rename the ending's files because they were already in the game and they are lazy i guess

What was the deal with declaring certain paths through the arcs 'canon' though? Proofing the back-stories in the event of a sequel?

i think it was more about the canon ending to the [I]route[/I] specifically more than a canon ending to the game in general, like i don't think the game would have a choice-specific canon path since 4leaf doesn't have any plans for a sequel anyway

I know (I meant "path" as in a specific sequence of scenes in an arc, I.E ending branches). The question remains though, why declare a canon ending to the route? Just for the sake of comfortably be able to think "yeah this story can end a couple of different ways but we all know THIS is how it 'really' happened"?
A lot of visual novels with multiple choices still have canon endings for some reason. Having a canon end bridges the gap between kinetic novel and visual novel and I guess I could see why they'd want to put one in for each girl, just to give you a sense of closure even if the 'best' ending isn't the canon one. At the same time though I'm glad they got rid of it because I like that kind of thing being as open as it can in a game with several different endings.
