IMO, Rin had the severest difficulties here. Not being able to express herself well is hell. Despite that, she's been painting to express herself, even though nobody understood much from her painting. Whats more, she immersed herself in that anguish, and use that feeling to create more painting. Despite her displaying that funny attitude, she's actually trying hard to convey herself well.
Her ending feelz perfectly captures the answer for her final question.

Has anyone considered what an awful name "Lily" is for someone who lives in Japan? Imagine being called "Riry/Riryu" or something to that effect all the time.
In fact the only name worse I can think of belongs to a friend of mine, who's named "Barker" which becomes Baka.

My dad used to work for NEC (Japanese electronics) and his friend/coworker's name was "Derrell" , that worked out well.

To make matters worse, I believe that Hisao says she hasn't got a foreign accent, which means that she's probably got a local Japanese accent, depending on what part she grew up in.
She'd not only be called Riry by everyone, she'd also call herself Riry, unless her parents made a conscious effort to ensure she pronounced her name with Ls as a kid.
A Tall blond Scottish girl with a Japanese accent, that's something I'd pay to say in the flesh.

The Japanese R/L pronounciation is a rolled R, which is in between R and L. Some Japs might lean more towards R, and other L. So maybe she got lucky and being called Lily.
