Yeah I have heard there are much better VN's and that probably is quite true but why does it matter to you if we still talk about it?

The sad part is that a good deal of fan-works are BETTER than what is written in KS.

The person was working on it for a while, but was told to stop by 4LS. The guy pops up frequently in /ksg/ to explain the situation.
I heard that he had plans to create another project using renpy (the engine used for KS) for the route, using different assets to avoid C&D.

The characters in KS are still 4LS's intellectual property though. I feel like that would have pretty low chances of succeeding if 4LS are as dead-set on keeping this down as they seem.

I don't think that 4LS actually owns the characters, they just dislike any usage of the things they made for [b]any[/b] other purpose. You can use the characters as they've written them, but you can't use what dialogue they've written; you need entirely new art, coding, and music; and attempting to link 4LS and what you've made in your amateurish style is a big no-no.

The characters aren't even 4LS's, they were given their personalities by them, but the characters came into existence in 2000 when they were put on the back page of a doujinshi manga.
The characters now bear little resemblance to the doujin page though.
Even so, they were Raita's idea originally, and 4LS doesn't own them as a result.

4LS made a good game but pretty much everyone on the team is an asshole, especially when it comes to what is and isn't their "intellectual property"
I believe they also wanted people to try something new instead of building onto something someone else created.
Aside from the fact that there's art and music, a good writer with half a cup of effort could probably write and entire 'choose your own adventure' style route for a character or two, rather than have to rely on artists and musicians and programming and all that jazz. Though I guess that's kind of what the fanfics are, in a way.
