Would you look at that... that KS art book compiled by that French translator group is now available in PDF: http://dl.katawa-shoujo.com/pr/artbooks/Kawasoft_Artbook.pdf

I'm kind of embarrassed to admit it, but this game had a very strong effect on me. I imagine my experience was similar to most others who've never really experienced visual novels before. I downloaded and installed the game, but found myself too embarrassed to actually play it. It sat, installed on my hard drive for a long time in the back of my memory. A week or two ago, I remembered it was installed, and finding that I had free time and nothing else to do, I started progressing through it. Line by line, scene by scene, I couldn't stop. I'd stop late in the evening and find myself waiting to start again the next free evening when I had time. It probably helps that I'm not going through the best stage of my life right now, and it all feels very relevant to what I'm trying to figure out in life. Rin's arc especially, where I found myself nodding along with issues Hisao and Rin struggle with. I actually posted this a few days before starting Rin's arc in the Depression thread in General on Facepunch on the subject of making change.
...The closest I can come to understanding the cause of my suffering is because the "ideal" me, the "Jordan" I want to be, is completely contradictory to my who I am now. To become that person would mean to abandon everything that defines me currently, which is a scary thought, which seems an impossible task...and one I'm not sure I'm willing to undertake. Change is not inherently good or bad, and if I make any attempt to change myself, what's to say I'll like the person I become anymore then what I am now?
So yeah, Rin, the character I didn't expect to like, ended up being most impactful on me. I'm a bit bummed though, as I've gone through everyone's path so far, just need to finish Shizune's either tonight or tomorrow, and then I've got nothing, unless I go after the alternate endings. Still, the experience was very helpful to me., It didn't solve any of my problems but it certainly made me feel like I need to take a more proactive stance in life. As an aspiring writer, I wish one day that I could be involved in a project half as good as Katawa Shojou, and maybe that's something I should stride for. I really wish it were possible to donate money towards the team behind this. EDIT: What other visual novels would Facepunch suggest moving onto next?
Personally I don't know any VNs but if you're into anime I can give you some recommendations that are similar This thread's pretty dead, what a shame. I used to post here a lot.
I'm kind of embarrassed to admit it, but this game had a very strong effect on me.
The route that had the biggest affect on me was Kenji's. That man was visionary.

[T]http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/3260/b9ymw0lbgmfxpdsfg.jpg[/T] If you want to refine your tastes even more use VNDB's tag system. http://vndb.org/g If you want another Romance VN I would recommend Clannad.
Thanks for the tip. I saw that same image posted elsewhere, and seeing it being mentioned here, I'll have to start researching some of those titles.
I saw this on the front page and got it excited. I thought there was an update to the game or something. :(
Thanks for the tip. I saw that same image posted elsewhere, and seeing it being mentioned here, I'll have to start researching some of those titles.
The only one out of those that I've played is Song of Saya, which was really good (tense, atmospheric, fast-paced), but I wouldn't feel comfortable outright recommending it. That shit is fucked up nighmare fuel.
I'm comfortable recommending it. Play Saya no Uta. Play it until you have achieved all of the endings and then decide which of them is the least horrifying. It'll be fun!
Grisaia no kajitsu is pretty nice, too. I really don't like the h-scenes, (just not my thing) but the characters are well done, if you suspend disbelief of the near gary stu MC at points. They could have placed the plot out much better thouigh, as it kind of comes out a big lump. Pity the sequels aren't translated, though.
The VN thread will better help you, but I personally recommend you to look into Rewrite, Steins;Gate, Fate Stay Night, Saya (Invite your family to watch you play it, it's a good bonding experience) and Grisaia. Clannad is also good feels fuel.
Just started looking into Saya no Uta. Seems like you couldn't have picked anything further from Katawa Shojou if you tried. That said, maybe that makes it the perfect thing to experience next. If I purchase it, what site should I use? EDIT: Also, Visual Novel thread huh, looks like that's my next stop. Need to finish Shizune's path in KS before I move onto something new. EDIT 2: I was going to purchase of J-List because they offer a download and physical bundle purchase.
saya no uta is the fucking shit 10/10
It has cripples, it has sex, that already makes it a KS clone for me http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/Iv=SBNoHvwh8xvkXQU/browse/item/92971/4/0/0
Be warned the sex scenes in Saya no Uta are probably the most disturbing thing about it because the OP's dick is like a million feet long and they make note of this quite often [editline]17th September 2013[/editline] I'd recommend you breeze through the sex scenes in general because they're awkward and don't really add anything to the story, not to mention the whole fucking thing is voice acted so it's SUPER DUPER awkward
the worst part about katawa shoujo is the awful filtered photo backgrounds some of the story images or whatever they're called had great backgrounds so for something you see so often in the game and so many times it's strange that they'd put so little effort into them
the worst part about katawa shoujo is the awful filtered photo backgrounds
Aren't like half of those not even from Japan.
I liked them because I find the contrast created by superimposing drawn characters on photo-realistic backgrounds quite jarring. That said though, some particular backgrounds seem unfitting or inconsistent. I'm looking at you, "tea room".
