I read the Half Life 2 beta story on the overwiki, and I'm thinking to myself... "Man this is some good shit, why didn't they make it happen?" and then I read the reason, and I thought again, "I hope they implement a lot of this into Episode 3."
I remember reading about this in RTB. It said that

Yeah, it's psychosexual imagery. It's supposed to freak you out in ways you're not fully concious about, like H.R. Giger did with the Alien movies. It's one thing to have a alien with lots of teeth and stuff, it's quite another to have it resemble human bits we're subliminally programmed to respond to.
Well, Giger did it with the [I]first[/I] Alien movie and the design was slowly but brutally bastardized in every installment since, but that's a whole different story :P
