If theres one major complaint I have about this though, its that [sp]once your saferoom comes under attack they decide to kill alll of those survivors you searched for in the last hour or so of gameplay and have rescueing them basiclly mean nothing besides getting a magnum from Terry.[/sp]
You also get a neat little trophy in The House, and the cells at the end of the game are full.
[sp]Atleast those trapped scientists presumably survive.[/sp]

Who did exacly ? [sp] The "bad guys" or my own crew ? Was wondering where they all went but if they were killed, well...bollocks. That really makes me sad [/sp]
[sp]Atleast those trapped scientists presumably survive.[/sp]
[sp]And perhaps the black security guard that ran the armory, too.[/sp]
[sp]after you lose your shit from the fall and "hurt your leg", fuck you devs for that[/sp]
It's not that bad, there's only [sp]two zombies in the area[/sp] and you can [sp]lock both of them in the airlock-doored rooms with the hatches on them[/sp]
[sp]And perhaps the black security guard that ran the armory, too.[/sp]
[sp]Wait, where was that?[/sp]

Yeah already figured that out and got past that part, just took the elevator after the warehouse.
[sp]you can also lock them in the food closets by closing the little sliding lock on the double doors[/sp]
Also, [sp]One of the zombies can actually break the platform in the flooded room and drown.[/sp]
You also get a neat little trophy in The House, and the cells at the end of the game are full.
Still though, I was expecting to [sp] at least see some of them armed with weapons helping the team escape or something.[/sp]

[sp]Its implied the bad guys killed all the other survivors when they attacked I think[/sp]
Finished it again. Still good. Yup.
Why would you replay a mod that tedious and boring.
Why would you replay a mod that tedious and boring.
I wouldn't say it was boring... it was quite tedious in a few spots though
Ok I can officially say that this mod deserves to be greenlit. Like Cry of Fear.
Ok I can officially say that this mod deserves to be greenlit. Like Cry of Fear.
I feel like Cry of Fear needs some pacing fixes. Maybe reduce enemy spawns a bit so you have more chances to build up tension.
Why would you replay a mod that tedious and boring.
Are you and I playing the same mod? Or did you just play the first 10-20 minutes? Because it gets much better as it goes on and many things are added to spice it up.
I've been rooting around in the game's files again, and I've noticed a few action music tracks labelled "RadioCombat"
What event was this from? Was it the first appearance of the ACEs or was it when you were fighting for the elevator with Bryan and Michael?
was it when you were fighting for the elevator with Bryan and Michael?
This. First ACEs fight called "Aces_"
[sp]I really liked the ending hallway that shows all of the people you can save, and some of the plot characters just sitting behind a wall. It reminds me of the hallway in bioshock 2 where you can see a statue of subject delta either killing or saving plot characters depending on choices you made throughout the game.[/sp]
Edit: Really sorry for posting untagged spoilers, I forgot about the spoiler tags. I won't make that mistake again. MaxOfS2D fixed it though :D
Uh spoilers dude
Really doesn't seem like spoilers. Didn't say WHICH characters are saved.
Soooo... For a long and detailed review about Underhell chapter 1, first of all it is long. Very long. About 20-30 hours if you want to do everything. And it's not repetitive or boring.
I've played 1.1, with the bugs of the monsters still waiting for U behing the closets, and the infinite respawn, but it put up more challenge.
[sp]
The mod is divided on several parts :
-First, you have the well-known Prologue. Mostly SMOD fights against some terrorists in buildings and parkings, until that John Woo-like climax and some mindfuck story about a strange gas...
And then, Underhell by itself :
First of all, there is a strange Third-person view section while being escorted to the cells.
Then, it is some exploration-only parts with plenty of dialogue with that black guard, guards, inmates, and there are some "sideways" to explore if you want it.
And then... you have some Amnesia Dark Descent-parts where you constantly flee from... some zombies, and you can sneak and go stealth through vents and using closets to hide. This is scary and intense, and it is here you can get used to some of the game mechanics.
You'll also get some melee weapon to beat the shit out of the (at that time, not so omnipresent) zombies, so it is payback time, after the fear.
And then... there is a huge freakin' boss to kill using sneaky tactics, but... you lose your melee weapon.
But suddenly! you're saved by the other guards who survived the chaos, and you meet some cool characters, such as veteran and chief of security Terrence Mason, his "pupil" and computer genius Ben, Matthew the guy with the glasses, and of course those "gangsta" Bryan and his brother Alex aka Junior. After nearly 10 minutes of only talking (!!!), you'll get to fight your way through the zombies with your teammates.
After that, there is two long parts where you're stuck to a section where you are on safe rooms and go back and forth to do some missions, save other survivors, all of that with random zombies spawning... BUT you can go stealth, still... those sections are interrupted with insanely long dialogues (nearly 5 minutes about Matthew's ex-girlfriend!), and the IMHO already infamous Matthew's monologue about the "system", government, Illuminati-like conspiracy, and some stuff but at this point my mind already exploded.
And then, after some work, suddenly, it's the return of human enemies with guns, but this time you're not in a one-man army mode, so you have to... no you must go in stealth mode and do some objectives to realize the ultimate objective : go to the surface.
BUT... Suddenly there is a traitor, who is linked to another bad guy which you've never heard about until... now!!, and then they talk about some asshole named Janus... to more forget about him because there is so much things happening and ten thousands named bad guys that you don't know what they do and who they work for. There is some shit called ARC and URDC, what that means for now is unknown, and there is one big muthafucka who is japanese and who wears sunglasses that is really a nasty piece of work, I guess we'll kill him some day.
After the way is opened, this is just climax after climax : you think it's over after getting into the elevator... BUT, suddenly, there is a muthafuckin' plane getting down in that huge facility... and then, you run, you run, fight, kill, and think it's over... BUT, suddenly, you have to go under to fight some bad guy and his little private army.. And then, you think it's finally over!!!... BUT, suddenly, bad guys fuck your way out and you have to run AGAIN... And then, you go in a train, and you think it's over... But NO!!! The train is blocked and you have to destroy barricades!! And then, you arrive at the surface, you think it's the end?? Think AGAIN, some huge freakin' boss rise to raise hell!!! And then, some climax ending sequence, but NO, it's not over!!! Suddenly the mod jumps into some mindless shooting with Gatling gun, tanks, copters... Oh my, oh my... And then chapter 2 and it's go back to some F.E.A.R.-like ambiance...
What about also, some guy in the facility who can give you some cool weapons such as explosive radios, crossbow... if you give him cards??
And what about that Chapter 1 House where you discover some dark secrets and experience some more scary events?? Oh well, and there are also dreams with very cool puzzles involving mirrors, and scary places with some zombie walking around while blurring your vision.
Besides the point that it is probably the "greatest Source mod of all time", if I can use a world to describe it, it would be MINDFUCK. It is constant mindfuck, with a completly crazy story, which in chapter 1, raise more questions than answers, you can find some links to Jacob's Ladder, Silent Hill, George Romero's Night of the Living Dead, but also Event Horizon, etc... and the whole way with going from some Steven Seagal-like story to a Men in Prison tale going to zombies and some survival horror before going back to over the top action... oh well, like Mxthe said "we put ALL the ideas", so yes it's a clusterfuck of various ideas from one single mind, there surely be some times where you'll be "what the HELL is going on, jesus", but in the end it is such a unique and intense experience...
So, in the end, Chapter 2 and chapter 2 House will surely be interesting. I don't really know where all these things are going but surely I can't wait to see how this will be [/sp]
tl,dr?? It's the whole story with this mod.
I feel as though the developers have never spoken to a black person to make both black characters stereotypical as fuck
I feel as though the developers have never spoken to a black person to make both black characters stereotypical as fuck
Why do you want a non-stereotypical black character(s) when the other characters are exactly as stereotypical?
[sp] For some reason the scene with Igor and when he straps Junior to the 3 hooks and hung him really made me feel un-easy. The music really helped also. It was just plain fucking creepy.
Hopefully Chapter 2 has more moments like that. Kind of like Dead Rising when you see the cut-scene before the psycho and it showed how fucked up they were. [/sp]

[sp] I gotta admit, for the Source engine, it was pulled off really well. The music added so much to the whole scene. That was really sad. [/sp]
Hey guys, I'm one of the mod team members.
It seems like we're about to get Greenlight soon so right now the team is working on porting the game to source 2013 (much more cleaner and smoother) and on the way want to try and fix as many small things as possible.
I saw there were all kind of random complains here about this and that, so if you guys could provide us with lists of cons/bugs/problems/things you didn't liked, it'll be great and we'll try to get rid of many as possible. (as long as they're not a total game changer of course).
Also, if I'm already at it, vote for us on Greenlight plox http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=93935811

It gave away a plot relevant thing in bioshock 2, and in underhell. I should've had spoiler tags on it.

just a little thing i noticed with dynamic lighting: you should implement the fixes listed here
https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Env_projectedtexture/fixes
there's 8), and there's also something that's not noted in this page (but it was fixed in Garry's Mod), which is dynamic lighting intensity that gets rendered depending on your view from the camera instead as from the world (so the closer you get to a light receiver, the stronger the light will be... which doesn't make sense)
just a niggle really, but i couldn't help but notice it since there are many uses of env_projectedtexture throughout the mod
I'm halfway through Chapter 1 and I really like it so far save for some of the writing. Most of the time the banter and plot discussion is relatively sound but then other times it falls flat. For instance, I'm at the part where [sp]Matt is revealed to be an government agent. I was enjoying the reveal up until he started ranting about his job and how mindless society is, blah blah blah. Felt really shoehorned in. Then the other characters started joining in and I felt like I was watching a PSA on how to fight the system.[/sp]
[editline]22nd September 2013[/editline]
Watched the part again on youtube and the guy's ranting for the sake of it and not even defending himself. That whole sequence following his reveal should have just been saved for a side conversation which you could possibly witness. It did not deserve its own cutscene.
Why would you replay a mod that tedious and boring.
Are you joking? Underhell has alternate paths and is certainly not tedious or boring.
I'm almost done with my second playthrough and nope, I haven't gotten bored at a single part.
