Japan you backstabbing motherfuckers! First you destroyed the Songhai civilization and I didn't care at all since I had no deals with them. Then Germany declared war on you after their declaration of friendship ended and I decided to renew my declaration with Japan and not with Germany. Then all of a sudden YOU FUCKING DENOUNCE ME. I was like 'alright' no big deal, we're still religious brethren and you're attacking the Carthaginians for being so retarded (they declared war on me three times out of desperation because they cannot sustain themselves. They're still friendly and compliant towards me after I destroyed their whole navy of Quinquirimes in two turns)
Now I see your rapid expansion into the southwestern plains of our continent and your glaring Imperialistic ambitions that have been terrorizing Carthage and the Ottomans. Now I know why Germany dumped your ass so many years ago! It's time for the glorious Dutch Empire to right their past wrongs!
I then denounced Japan and I knew that I was on borrowed time after that. I start to gather allies.
I brokered a peace between the Huns and the Germans so that they may focus all their efforts upon the Japanese. The Huns managed to push the Japanese, liberating their long-lost city of Orchomenos so now their capital is but a stone's throw away.
I allied with the city-states that are with in attacking distance of Japan's borders and I begun to station artillery and troops with in their territory. I reopened my embassy with Carthage and they agreed to have my troops move in their borders to counter any Japanese threat. My entire navy is now worthless since much of Japan's cities are land-locked and they control 60% of the central continent.
And now as long as Germany holds it's promise Japan will be faced with a united coalition of all nations on the continent led by the Dutch!! Soon this cancerous empire of Japan will be removed and order and unity shall reign upon my continent!

I'll expect the Japanese Empire to be reduced by 1865
I have a question about multiplayer;
I live in a student accommodation complex with some friends. I know that games of Civ can take weeks, depending on how hard core you want to go.
What would be great for us would be if it's possible to have the same game running over several weeks, with each player taking their turn whenever they have the time (evenings, most likely). This would probably mean they would have to disconnect from the server every so often. I'm aware that the AI takes over for players who have disconnected and have yet to reconnect. Can we disable this AI so that the game will only resume when whoever is supposed to be taking their turn takes their turn?
I hope that makes sense
Hotseat mode, safe, send save to next player?
Get the expansion now or wait for the possibility that it actually goes on a small discount during the steam summer sales... does it really provide enough content compared to the full game to pay 30 euro for?

Just because you played as the Dutch and fucking up the Japanese with them gave you a winner.

Yes
I love the Steampunk scenario but I lament how short/small it is.
A game that's in a kind of alternate history/sci fi/fantasy setting with the ability to play on a map bigger than small would be glorious.
it would be awesome to have an alternate history scenario where there are tons of small civilizations all around a massive world (like city states) and you basically branch out and conquer them, eventually gaining enough force to conquer larger empires while slowly moving through a large tech tree
So I just won a Diplomatic victory as Rome through the cunning use of Bought Votes.
I was making like 500 gold a turn and having a bidding war with Hiawatha over two city states, I finally won by selling a rocket arty and flipping them both at the 11 hour on the turn the UN vote took place.
I run this shit.
What the fuck, the Germans get the Apollo Progam by 1890?

No regrets, great expansion.
I love the fact that the Mayan calendar is shown in the top right, such a nice touch.
[sp]I thought it was the multiplayer game's IP at first.[/sp]
Just had my first domination victory using elizabeth. I played on a "large islands" map type which meant that everything was a large island complex, bigger than archipelagos but not quite continents. Think about the size of the Isle of Britain. I built the great lighthouse and got the commerce social policy that gives you plus one naval movement, so ALL my units had +4 their normal speed, allowing quick naval victories. The new naval improvements really shine with elizabeth.
I conquered Atilla first around 1500 AD and then realized around 1908 or so that I could never catch up if I didn't start conquering everyone else. The sad part is that everyone on the globe after the huns were gone were great buddies with each other (except napoleon, he's french) and besides that global gangbang against the Huns there had been almost no wars. I invaded William first, then Bismarck, then tried for Ethiopia but failed the first time. I had to waste another 20 turns building up my navy and finally took his capital city. After that, I built myself up for the invasion of the most secure island on the planet: France. I loaded up my navy with countless battleships, missile cruisers, destroyers, nuclear subs, and nuclear missiles. I nuked France 4 times and took 2 of his 4 cities and made peace. I then quickly built up my navy again (I was pulling 600+ gpt by this point) and attacked the mayans, who had been ahead of my in tech since the beginning of the game. Since my war with william, I had gone from 15 techs behind to only 2 behind. I later found out I had nearly double his beakers-per-turn and he just got lucky with a bunch of great scientists beforehand. I nuked 3 of his cities, one of which accidentally hit one of washington's tiles, so he declared war on me. That was sad, Washington was a bro all throughout the game, but I had to kill him eventually so it was for the better. I took Palenque and the mayans settled for peace, then started gunning for washington. The tough part about attacking America was that they had been in no wars since the medieval period, since he was my ally, and his army/navy was huge and almost as modern as mine. I ended up saying "fuck it" and nuked him 6 or 7 times due to my huge gold stockpile and close proximity. After 25 turns of push-and-pull naval battles, I took Washington with a destroyer and won with a domination victory. And the cool part was, I never eliminated a civ from the game except for Atilla, most civs stopped wanting to fight after I took their capital, but they still hated me for the rest of the game.
so, is the Gods and Kings worth to get?

If you like regular Civ5 and you're not too broke to be spending money on games in general, yes.
If you like regular Civ5 and you're not too broke to be spending money on games in general, yes.
I'm too poor to afford Gods and Kings currently, and I haven't wanted to start up any games mostly because I'd rather start a new game fresh with the expansion installed.
This thread is tiding me over with all the awesome stories.
So me and Isabella have been best buds since we discovered one another and together we've destroyed Carthage and crippled Germany to the point where he'll never have peaceful diplomatic ties with either of us again. However, I'm also friends with everyone else on the continent, Egypt and Japan, with Egypt taking over.
Worried about this, I sent in spies to see who he'd target next for expansion (he was taking Japan) and discovered that despite his friendly demeanor he was plotting against me, which was backed up by intrigue from Isabella. In a bid to buy some time, I convinced Spain, Arabia, Maya and, by returning a city that was originally theirs, Germany to attack Egypt.
It worked and Egypt, while not destroyed by any means, had their military split on 4 fronts and was whittled down to a few units before they made peace. With him safely dealt with and no loss on my end, I could focus on advancing my military for extra security.
By chance I noticed Isabella stationing troops at her border with me. I didn't think anything of it but decided to send a Spy for curiosity's sake. It turned out she was amassing a naval invasion force which put my mind to rest as we border on land and not ocean. About 20 turns later she denounces me out of no where (Which I've since come to realise is because I essentially bribed them all to attack Egypt putting them at a disadvantage).
After a few heated exchanges of words we're at War, with the world now split into two groups, those who've allied with Isabella and are throwing taunts and threats at me and those who've allied with me, who are backing me up and giving me words of encouragement. I have a feeling things might descend into global chaos soon though :v:
tldr: Spain and I were best buds but after I bribed her and bunch of others to attack Egypt I may have sparked a global conflict of awesome proportions.
I'll upload screens tomorrow.

Oh, and I'm playing the Celts. So glad I can make real home city my capital in game.
Just purchased this game being new to the Civilization series, and I am loving every moment of it.
I fucking HATE barbarians. Their meddling cost me the war with the Mayans and now Ghandi is moving in with his fucking NUKES! I SWEAR that guy has some penis issues!

There is an option to remove barbarians, I'm terrible so I always click it.
Is there a way to destroy enemy prophets without declaring war?
Is there a way to destroy enemy prophets without declaring war?
I think placing in inquisitor inside your city can stop them from spreading.
There is an option to remove barbarians, I'm terrible so I always click it.
Really? No barbarians ruins the fun
Holy shit, the Germans are getting way to strong. They have fucking rocket launchers by 1909 and I just watched them capture a city in one turn with it. What do I do?
>Cede captured Japanese capital to Huns
>War breaks out between Germans and Huns
>Inject massive amount of resources for Huns.
>Border negotiations continuing
>Preparing to gift infantry units to combat Germans once Huns agree to open borders
So yesterday I started a good run as Theodora, and holy shit, this expansion pack. Buckle up, we're about to head into an epic game!

This is central Africa, where I spawned. I started gently expanding, got my pantheon, picked the one that gives +1 happiness when your cities are next to rivers.
The early game was relatively straightforward. I settled, got me some luxuries and sent my spearmen and archers around Africa and the Arabian peninsula, doing quests for all the city states on my continent. Around the end of the antiquity, I met Askia, and we traded a bit.
Then came my first war. France coveted my lands, and Napoleon declared war. I sent my army to the Sinai desert, and my relatively small army bottlenecked him near Suez. He attacked me with loads of archers, but we both fell back a few times, healed up and returned to the fray. Eventually, my navy, which was around Madagascar (helping Hong Kong with their barbarian problem) arrived and drove him back. He wanted peace and paid a bit of gold as a compensation.
Then, I resumed my activities in central Africa. I invaded Antwerp because I wanted the city for myself (there were already 4 mercantile CS in Africa, so I could take one out no problem) and continued spreading my religion around the continents.
By now, Genghis in Europe had become a problem. He constantly bullied Mombasa, my ally in North Africa, and generally acted like a dick to me and denounced me. I allied with Askia, too. By now, I had allied every city state in Africa and the two near my border with France. These buffer states would give me the leverage I needed. Askia shared a tip with me: Napoleon was planning to sneak attack me. Again.
Undaunted, I sent my army to my two city states in the Middle East. Sure enough, Napoleon had a rather large army of pikemen and crossbowmen, with some trebuchets. Right when his army was in between the two city-states, I declared war on him. His army got attacked from three sides and annihilated. Genghis Khan, his friend, declared war on me, and shit got real.
I mopped up Napoleon's remains and peaced out with him. Then, I returned to my Moroccan city and upraded my army to riflemen, lancers and gatling guns. With my frigates and ironclads, I conquered his city in Spain. and renamed it Iberia.

The war continued until I conquered and renamed Western Europe, Central Europe and Southern Europe. Askia, on the eastern front, had less success, but we peaced with Genghis and he even threw in the Baltics to sweeten the deal.
By now, I was in a cold war with Egypt and Arabia. We were all planning coups all over the place and denouncing each other. Carthage and the Songhai backed me up. My plan was simple:
I spammed Great War infantry and Gatling guns in my production cities, then gifted them to all the city states in Asia to keep Egypt in check. Egypt, in India, was surrounded by 4 city-states which were now equipped with units one era ahead of him.
I declared war on them, and the world imploded. Carthage, me, the Songhai and France were at war with Egypt and Arabia. My city-states actually kicked ass and destroyed the Egyptians' army. I peaced with them, and got one of Egypt's cities in the deal.
Genghis Khan was denouncing me again, so I conquered his remaining Scandinavian cities.
So now what? Most city-states in the world are my allies with a good amount of influence thanks to my constant election rigging, huge gold income and gifted hardware. I think I'll go for a diplomatic victory, but tech victory is also a distinct possibility. I could go for domination, but I'd feel bad turning on my bros Askia and Dido.
Anyhow, this game has been very flavourful until now, and I just love Gods and Kings so much.
I'm averaging a social policy once every 10 turns. Lets hope I get that utopia soon
I don't like the look of these alternate victory conditions. To me, RTS has always been about wiping out the enemy player
And the turn-limit victory condition is just silly. Unless there's a defined reason for limited turns (global cataclysm or something) it just feels really fake.
I had fended off Egypt, mended ties with Ramesses and was just about to help China demolish the Egyptians when the game ended because of 500 turns.
=(

But... It's not an RTS. It's a 4x strategy game. 4X games always have multiple victory conditions that allow you to play the way you want, without being forced to kill everything and everyone.
