I think there should be a system that gives players a chance at one time 'perks' whenever they discover a technology. You'd have ~5 different perks for each technology and it'd give a small but helpful bonus to the civ that discovered it. The chance of obtaining a perk would be decided by comparing the player's science to the global average science (above average; higher chance, below average; lower chance). Once a technology has been discovered and it's given out a perk, that technology can never be used again to give out another perk. However, if a technology has been discovered but it hasn't given out a perk, it would increase the chance that a perk would be discovered by other civilizations. If a great scientist was used to speed up research or build an academy, this would also increase the chance that a perk would be received for a technology. Players who do research agreements together would also have a high chance of receiving a perk, however both players would get that perk. To balance perks, I think a perk limit could be implemented for civilizations, so they could only a set amount of perks per era (this would vary era to era as they all have different amounts of technologies. Perks could also be stolen if a Spy obtained them within a set period of time after the Perk being discovered. You could also have perks that only last for an era or a set amount of turns. Examples of perks could be: a +25% combat bonus for all melee infantry on the plains terrain type until the industrial era, +1 food from all farms, +1 gold per happy citizen until the Atomic Era. And I suppose you could also have negative perks, or 'technological setbacks' that have negative bonuses, but those would be rarer than positive perks.
Something that random sounds like it would just be frustrating.
I invaded the Inca who were sitting somewhere in the classical era still, I think. Upon taking two of their three cities, they made me an ultimatum and offered me all of their kingdoms wealth. I keep getting an error with DLC_D something about icons or something.
I keep getting an error with DLC_D something about icons or something.
verify game cache in Steam [editline]24th June 2012[/editline] and it's actually a fairly common problem for pirates, an issue with the babylon DLC, if that's the case and you don't own it on Steam then nobody is going to help you fix it
It's go time.
Verify has not fixed it, I'll just disable the DLC in the menu if possible and not play it.
I've actually had a lot of good peace deals with the AI, they seem to offer quite a lot for peace now instead of demanding stuff from me.
I am now spreading Atheism across the globe.
I am now spreading Atheism across the globe.
just the way any true facepuncher should :911:
I am now spreading Atheism across the globe.
I hope you took the "fanaticism" trait. Because there's nothing quite like taking over the world with fanatics willing to die for literally nothing.
Does the marathon mode lower the year intervals? like from 0 Ad to 50 AD instead of 0AD to 100 AD?
On a world map as netherlands, I've got Amsterdam in Alaska and founded Rotterdam just across the pond in the far right of Russia. One of my scouts have just found australia, and it has some pretty nice resources and it's completely empty. If I had my current cities a little closer, I'd build a few more down under. It's an excellent opportunity, should I try and found a city there?
Does the marathon mode lower the year intervals? like from 0 Ad to 50 AD instead of 0AD to 100 AD?
Yes, and it also increases the production/gold/culture/faith/science cost for everything.
Is it just me or is the world wonder that makes desert tiles produce gold, production and food one of the best wonders in the game? Combined with the "desert tiles give faith" religion, any city surrounded by desert becomes an absolute powerhouse with that wonder.
I've managed to take most of Africa, save for the small parts taken by Caesar and Khan. I'm cool with Rome but I am currently taking Khan's place over. I managed to get 2 of his 4 known towns, and have no aims at stopping until he's wiped out. [editline]24th June 2012[/editline] Also Ghandi is an ocean away. Lucky me.
I'm on huge map and have pretty much all of north america as Danish, America was way at the top and twice they betrayed my as friends but luckily my spy let me know before it happened both times and on the second time I decided to just wipe the fuckers out and succeeded.
Does anyone else think that, if you're in the lead technologically, that you should be able to steal some gold or something from another civ? I feel like spies become useless if you're in the technological lead.
We should at least be able to steal science points or something, It's not fair that other civs can steal my technology and I can't at least steal science points and unlock shit to stay ahead of them.
Bought a Gods and Kings key from that G2Play online store, got it for 17€ That site looks kinda suspicious, though, with its scans of retail boxes and all.
I wouldn't mind being able to steal wonder schematics if I'm building the same one for a production bonus towards it, sick of being beaten out by two or three turns.
Oh how i love winning with a diplomatic victory Wait till the vote coutdown starts, ally every single state on the board with your massive stockpile of gold then declare war on everyone left so they can't out bid you on the last turn. Fuck you siam, india, greece and germany, leaving me in the industrial era with nothing left but a metric fuck tonne of cash, more fool you for not conquering me.

Does the DX9 version of the game run quicker in the late-game than the DX10/11 one? I mean time between turns.
I'd think so, less detail to process, but turn times are more dependent on the processor.
Im on a 580 gtx, dx9 has always been quicker (lets face it, CiV is not a game for gfx junkies)
Im on a 580 gtx, dx9 has always been quicker (lets face it, CiV is not a game for gfx junkies)
What? It just needs more bloom and noscoping and it'd be the new crysis.
Can you play with people who don't own Gods and Kings, if you own it?
I got Portal 2 from there without any problems.
Yeah, my key of Gods and Kings worked perfectly too. I was just wondering how they were able to give such discounts when the game itself is not on sale on steam.
I think they bought up a shit ton of keys over the many times it has been on sale on Steam
The other civilizations in my game aren't very smart. First me and Netherlands declare war on Carthago that was previously ganged on by everyone else. After I clean them up, Songhai declares war on me. Songhai had the whole game been angry at me and I had stuff placed on the border because him declaring war was inevitable. Because the map is Large Islands and I have a fuckton of destroyers, battleships and carriers with bombers, it's just a steamroll with barely any losses. Then, out of nowhere, Austria that had been a total bro the whole game with constant trading and Declarations of Friendship decided that declaring war on me is a great idea. It took about 10 turns to steamroll her navy and capture her cities. Now I'm waiting to see if someone else decides to declare war so I can take their land as well.
