I hate no stacking of units, and taking a city is stupidly more complicated than the good old days :(
Im not very good at this civ
I think they bought up a shit ton of keys over the many times it has been on sale on Steam
That literally makes no sense Keys for key sites are bought from plati.ru or various other east european dealers

Because it takes a little bit more strategy than "Spit out 20 units into one giant clump and reign death upon the enemies giant clump".
Although I do kind of miss those days as well.

yeah I didn't really take into account that you don't get the raw CD key from Steam, I guess I didn't really think that post through completely :v:
Game is pretty good. I made a save after I had a big war with Germany and saved right before I declared war on Japan. I destroyed Japan and ended up getting 3 victories at once, Cultural, Diplomatic, and Science within 1 turn. I went back and loaded my game and decided not to betray Japan and the entire game changed. Arabia started a war with Japan and took them out, the Mayans were destroyed by Carthage and then a nuclear war broke out between the remaining 3 super powers to the point no one could do anything besides continually build up arms in hopes of defending their cities.
Really like this game.
I just wish cities were a little less hardcore.
Venice with some fucking walls and no troops stationed should not be stronger than 4 catapults with siege upgrades.
It's kind of annoying how the finisher from patronage stacks with each civ, so it ends up with everyone loosing equally. It's also annoying how a city-state will ask for a road, and then block your workers with their troops. I also really need to get a better computer, because I'm never going to finishing my Into the Renaissance game with how long turns are getting.
verify game cache in Steam [editline]24th June 2012[/editline] and it's actually a fairly common problem for pirates, an issue with the babylon DLC, if that's the case and you don't own it on Steam then nobody is going to help you fix it
apparently it's the only problem for pirates.. disabling it in the DLC menu will take care of the entire race!
I just bought the expansion. Can't wait for the download to finish!
I like how in the DX level menu, it says at the top, "Right click for more options, like adding a shortcut to your desktop." and you right click and the only two options are for Dx9 and Dx11 shortcuts :v:
Almost every major civilization declared war against me because I took out Genghis Khan's Mongolians (They called me a bloodthirsty tyrant). The only one to take any action is Rome, which is my next door neighbor (Rome is in the Arabian Peninsula while I have most of Africa). The sad thing is that they're still using the trebuchet and crossbowmen as their best soldiers, while I have the Industrial Era soldiers.

Also about to dig a well to get fighters for my aircraft carrier. No point in not getting it so I will have the advantage if/when others get aircraft.
For some reason, in my current game the inca decided to attack this city state on a peninsula, but they never take the city because they never move any non-ranged units up to the city. As it stands, they will NEVER take the city, they'll just keep blowing it up forever.
What complicates this is they appear to have declared this a permanent war so I can't diplomacize with them. And the coup de gras is that I'm allies with this city state (and playing a patronage game) so I can't just put it out of it's misery.
This is basically game breaking, and I think I'm going to be forced to start over, does anyone know how I can solve this?
Is it even possible to play a defensive game?
The reason you can purchase gods and kings on various sites for cheaper than steam is because they're russian keys, in russia they basically give the games away because russians usually don't pay for the game. They'll just pirate it because i believe there are no pirate laws in russia

I usually do and managed to keep out of wars from turn 125 onward to get a cultural victory.
anyone else hate the background for the main menu with the G&K expansion?

Which I find ironic considering the iron-hard grip that the Kremlin has on mass media in general in Russia.
I find it subversive, to be honest.
After reading that guy's 1984-esque Civ II game, I want spys to be able to plant nukes, or at least be able to carry out terrorist attacks.
For example, sabotage their fortifications to lower the city's strength. Bomb a subway to take down its health (Or happiness?). Biological attacks take away population and make city starve.
Firaxis would never hear the end of it if they allowed player driven terrorist attacks. Though barbarians in the industrial age+ should really be allowed to attack cities.

It should be like back in Civ IV, were barbarians can found settlements and conquer your cities. Barbarians are, at best, a nuisance.

At this point, mid/late game barbarians only serve a minor threat (mostly to settlers and the occasional wounded unit) when a small pocket of them exist in one area or they somehow managed to crop up and begin harassing minor settlements. I guess it's somewhat truthful, almost. Most people who wanted to caste themselves out of society and form small bands of raiders would be eventually subject to the inevitable steamroll of expansion or retribution.
I had a small group of archers and crossbowmen hanging out in this little, scheduled paradise of untapped trees and resources. Only way in was via a small gap of water through a city state, or to go around the mountains and enter via the coast (mountains formed an upside down V which blocked them in). They actually had a single, slightly wounded pikemen guarding the most convieniant way in (the city state water gap). Since most of the goodies were untapped, a sent a single Knight unit in there to purge them and clear a path for the settlers.
With my recent victory over the Inca it seemed less like a Barbarian encampment and more like a mix of deserters, refugees, and otherwise who'd banded together and isolated themselves in this little untouched part of the world.
Shit like this is why I love games like Civ 5.
Here's a quick photo of what I encountered:

Did actually manage to beat back my Knights, but after that I sent in some Cavalry to clear out the last remaining unit.

I love it. Same with the new soundtrack. Amazing

its just the CGI King-guy is in the uncanny valley, i wish i could get the old menu back.
someone should make a steamworks mod for that
Tried some multiplayer
Got stuck twice times between turns before everyone left :'(
Anyone know if the DLC Leader soundtracks are available as MP3's? I found the GK ones in the data files.
Is it even possible to play a defensive game?
I've won a number of games on normal difficulty doing that. I have won a few games on hard difficulty being defensive, but so far it has mostly been luck with my location as opposed to skill. A mistake I keep making is that when I go the defensive route I don't build up much of a military. Aggressive AI's seem to be programmed to pick off the weak, which would make sense.

IIRC someone said they can be found in the game files.
The world is getting smaller for me. I need to get as large as I can before all of the valuable land is taken. Sooner or later I will have to start a world war.
Is it me, or does it take longer to get new policies?

Highlands with dense ridges and seas.
Also I just wiped out the Romans mostly for oil and aluminum.

That will only work until civilizations begin to use bombers and nuclear missiles.
