does anyone else get bored after renaissance era? i actually dislike it when ships look modern, i like my bowmen. :(
Also I just wiped out the Romans mostly for oil and aluminum.
[editline]25th June 2012[/editline]
That will only work until civilizations begin to use bombers and nuclear missiles.
I never even make it to modern before I get bored and start a new map, so sometimes I forget about that stuff.

i've literally never finished a game of Civ V
after awhile it takes so long for turns to complete and there's nothing left to discover. the gameplay becomes really repetitive ("hmm, that city has a good number of troops stationed near it? good thing i have 3 mobile infantry and 2 nuclear missiles to launch at it")

the only good thing about the modern era(and up) is the helicopter gunships. those things are awesome

Riflemen are the fucking powerhouse of the middle game. I've spammed waves of them at other cities, used them to defend, etc.
Fucking Germans now backstab me when they adopted communism while I went to democracy.
Time to start getting the nukes.
Playing my Rome save after a few busy days off. I'm liking the extra dynamic that espionage brings to diplomacy. I randomly got contacted by the Huns, warning me that the French were planning an attack on Antium, same turn I caught and executed a French spy in Rome.
Also, it seems all the other nations of North America think Roman Judaism is the bomb. France and the Huns have both happily adopted it as their state religion and the Celtic cities are under intense pressure to abandon their own religion and convert.
The more I progress towards future era, the more I appreciate that I started out in Africa, and Gandhi is all the way in South America.
Back at war with the Celts, caught another Russian spy attempting to steal technology.
I'd say I am a very casual Civ fan. Is the new expansion still worth getting or should I just wait for a sale?
Just beat the Fall of Rome scenario as Attila :)
Super fun, and Attila's Battering Rams are fucking devastating.
When I play as Russia and have a city named Moscow, everytime I use it I tend to start singing this song:

Also holy shit I need to get Gods and Kings ASAP,looks amazing but $40 AUD is a little steep on steam.
So I explored and conquered most of my island, only left my Almaty bro. (I had to conquer all others because of my massive gold deficit v:v:v) I find another island with 2 city states I cannot conquer in any possible way, so I'm just chilling until I can go through oceans and working on fixing my borked economy. Then I meet napoleon. Out of nowhere, the fucker finds me. I don't even know where he is, I can't spot any french unit. I mean, I feel uncomfortable playing as Askia with the French probably wanting to colonize my continent.
Askia is always so friendly to me that I decided he must actually be a volunteer fireman in his spare time, and just got done rescuing everyone in the building behind him.
Am I the only one who just annexes City States instead of allying with them? I remember when I played my first Civ5 game (Greeks) I mass spammed hoplites to annex them all, getting on the bad site with the Iroquis, but fuck them.

The german version is far superior.
I love the puns in the achievement names, "Whack a Mole - Find and kill an enemy Spy.", "Propheteering - Found a Religion.", "Gad Zeus! - Found a Pantheon."

Don't forget the "Seriously!?" achievement, when enemies builds and finishes ten wonders just before you get your done. :v:
Wow, i see that i clocked 4 hours alone when i bought Civ5 yesterday.
Well, fuck me, I got caravels. Good thing - i won't need to worry about Napoleon because he got tremendously butt-rammed by Darius. bad thing - darius is at the modern age and I'm at the renaissance :v:
maybe I'm not so fucked after all, he's allied to all city states and a friend of washington and also friendly with me. I bet Montezuma is laughing his ass off in hell right now.
Oh God I love this game.
I'm playing as Austria, and here's the situation now (2073 AD)

(Military victory only, I don't care about winning anyway)
I started in the south, expanding peacefully on the whole continent. Then I started colonising unpopulated parts of the upper continent. Dido was upset but nothing happened. Then the Greeks started invading Carthage and were steamrolling everything so I declared war on Dido. That way I conquered a couple of cities before Alexander could and limited a bit the expansion of Greece. Incas and Celts have been fighting on their continent for centuries and Bismarck did nothing except sending his outdated units to Carthage to try to get a bit of it. The situation between Alexander and I is extremely tense:
[T]http://niggaupload.com/images/MAPqV.jpg[/T]
That's going to blow up one day or another. I used all my uranium on nuclear missiles, and I'm planning to double their number by picking the fascism policy.
(I don't want to declare war, just to stay "passive" and see what happens)

Considering Alexander's civ bonus is geared towards allying with City States I can't see why you'd do this :v:, but in general I do annex city states if they're at war with me or if I'm going for a conquest victory.
I don't play with victory conditions myself. I like to let the game just run its course until the course runs out. It's interesting to see how a game pans out far after a set victory condition would have ended the game. Even though you can keep playing after achieving victory, but then what's the point of one at all
To me, the game's about maintaining an empire and relations with others. That doesn't end unless everyone's wiped out, or one empire is left standing
Oh wow. So I finally got Civ5 to work in DirectX 9, now the infopanels don't show up and if I switch to strategic view, and select an unit, it crashes. If I select an unit and move it in normal view, it does nothing.

Like I knew that, I just annexed them because free cities. I founded 2 cities and my capital in that game. The rest I conquered from citystates. The Iroquis allied with them all, but didn't attack. Twas my first game :v:
It's 1984 and Rasuga just captured and razed Los Angeles. Time to prepare for nuclear war.
The ironic part is that Russia is one of the lesser developed nations, since they still use cannons and crossbowmen. Singapore still uses catapults.

An unholy alliance.

I got it here for $26.99. They give you a Steam key.
Maria Theresa is seriously pissing me off.
She "marriages" all the city next to my empire, laughs of my puny military, bullies poor Cahokia while bragging about it infront of me and threatens to go to war if i expand any more in her general fat location.

She even effectively blocked my poor town Turkus with her royal fat ass.
That's it, i'm going militaristic instead of being economic. Though being loaded with cash has earned me a few friendship. Ghenghis Khan, Theoroda and Harul al-Rashid. They all have asked me of sharing the "secret" of earning gold. :v:

Uhh, she just reached atomic era :tinfoil:

Attack now, before she gets the bomb!

Plunge into the heartland and cut out the cancer before she befouls the Celtic lands anymore.
At least cause as much damage as you can before she hits one of your towns.
Darius can suck my bitg, black ,west african dick. When idiscover his, washington's and napoleon's continent, I find he has almost all of it, having captured new york and some other town. Napoleon managed to conquer mecca and some other town of the arabian dog. Well, darius managed to get the upper hand and he crushed napoleon. Washington, in the mean time, all but flees to my continent and establishes chicago there, the land he has in his own continent is small, very small.
Darius was friendly with me and washington, as he was helping him with napoleon.
The fucker backstabs him right in the turn after finishing napoleon. heinvites me and I accept, quickly conquering chicago. As soon as darius destroys washington's final 2 towns, he insults my army.
I know what's going to fucking come. I denounce him and later declare war on him, out of spite (keep in mind his pointy stick rating is 9000 and mine is 1000). my small colony on the persian ally continent gets attacked by mechanized infantry and WWI riflemen. It manages to defeat the rifleman with nothing but itself and a fucking longswordsman.
I am now stocking up+ on mandekalu cavalries with -40 or so gold, -10 happiness. I have no doubt that he would have declared war and wouldhave destroyed me, but the songhai shall die spitting in the face of the arabian dogs.
