Obsolete, my ass, now I can't do any ranged units besides the cannon.
I always thought that relatively modern 19th century rifles being considered melee weapons by Civilization was a little odd but then again this is the same logic that saw modern tanks being blown up by cavemen wielding clubs.
You could replace unit names with the names of fruit and it'd make just about as much sense.
Would Civ IV be a good bet for me since I can't run Civ V
I'm loving the random start locations. All hail the German empire that was founded in Oklahoma.
Would Civ IV be a good bet for me since I can't run Civ V
personally I still prefer Civ4. Other than the combat system, it is still largely superior to V, especially with the expansion packs and the right mods. Less user-friendly, but way more in-depth.
I can't even play Civ4 any more, I'm way too used to Civ5's Streamlined-ness.
I can't even play Civ4 any more, I'm way too used to Civ5's Streamlined-ness.
Never going back to the mess that was Civ4. That combat system is fucking rigged.
Holy shit, guys. Just played a game as Theodora, on Prince, on a "Terra" Map, which is basically one large Eurasia-esque continent where everyone spawns and another "New World" continent that you can colonize. I founded my religion first and got all of the gold-boosting beliefs, giving me lodes-e-mone by the end of the game. I got 180 gpt from religion alone, and I was already pulling 600+gpt from other city bonuses for the 400 maintanace per turn penalties, leaving my income at 200gpt without golden age. I was lucky to spawn in the southwest corner of the continent, away from all the constant wars my neighbours were involved in, but my best achievement was that I WENT THE ENTIRE GAME WITH NO WARS. FUCKING. ZERO. DO YOU KNOW HOW PROUD THIS MAKES ME, MOTHERFUCKERS? I HAVE WAITED MY ENTIRE LIFE FOR THIS MOMENT.
Just did it again with Korea and a scientific victory. I must be on a roll or something. Although to be fair both times I shared very little border with other civs and I was isolated from the rest of the world for most of the game.
I still play Civ4 primarily for Fall from Heaven II. If a similar mod (I remember hearing there are no plans to bring FFH to Civ V) cropped up I'd be on it in a flash, although I'm not hopeful there's going to be one that has the level fo flavor and complexity as FFH2.
Y'know, I normally have a lot of self control and act fairly peacefully in Civilization, but...

This has happened three times now... The first time by America, taking 4 iron and 3 horses, I ask them not to settle new cities near me. Second time by Arabia, taking 2 coal, and a third time by America this time taking 6 oil and 3 aluminium I think I may just rampage across the continent destroying The United States, Possibly even Arabia as well, those million customs houses and trade posts look oh so tempting. A visualization of the invasion.
What's the best civilization for loads of cities? I want to try that.

Should be all right, especially if you have a defensive pact going on with another civilization.
I'm having the best Civilization game I have ever had. Started out playing as the Romans and being lucky with Ancient Ruins I was the lead of the technology race, I manage to build up a great and stable economy unlike the Civilizations around me. The Ottoman Empire are my neighbours and became quickly hostile towards my expansion. I was sitting with an army of Legions ready for them to make a move. They start mobilising at my borders and quickly declares war on me. I push them back into their territory. Two razed cities and couple of rounds later and they beg me for peace. They give me all their gold and luxury resources. I decide to attack Sidon and the entire world denounces me and the Swedes declares war on me. They give me a lot more resistance then the ottomans but their civilization crumbles slowely. By the Renessance era I am on their doorstep ready to siege Stockholm. I'm now at about 1400 A.D. and I am one of the biggest Civilizations in the world with a great economy and an army to match.
I won the science victory. I decided to keep going, and noticed that Gandhi is getting massacred by the Persians (Ghandi is in South America, while Persians are in North America and Central America). If the Persians decide to attack the allied city-state over there, it will probably start a massive world war, and a good handful of nations is in the modern era at least.
Well, I just captured London and will soon capture york, their second capital, hopefully crippling and neutralizing england for once and for good. Unless that asshole gandhi which is fucking moving cannons to my undefended border jumps in.

Okay time for an Emperor game with 5 of the toughest AIs. What are the worst of the worst? I know a lot of people say Gandhi is worse than Hitler but he turned out to be the least menacing in my last game. I plan on starting this from the atomic age, I want to see the map turn into a nuclear wasteland!

Montezuma, Ganhdi, and the English
I've never had a game where one of either Mongolia or the Songhai haven't conquered at least one Civ.
Montezuma, Gandhi, Askia, Sweden, Rome. Maybe Egypt.
Ethiopia has always given me shit and been a bully in my games.
Napoleon. If you spawn next to him, you're screwed, if everyone else spawns next to him, you're in luck
Napoleon. If you spawn next to him, you're screwed, if everyone else spawns next to him, you're in luck
I found this out the hard way.
I hate Elizabeth's longbowmen.
I hate Elizabeth's longbowmen.
I hate Elizabeth's voice actor.
My playthrough just completely exploded. Things were preceding as normal, then 38 denouncements in one turn. I can't tell if the AI just completely freaked out, or if the world is on the verge of war. EDIT: Jesus Christ! 51 denouncements the next turn. All friendships have disintegrated, Attila is at war with every nation on the planet. This is the closest I've seen to a global war. Thankfully, I've stayed out of global politics thus far, so I've escaped unscathed.
It seems that every time I get out of a war with Greece and form a peace treaty, not even 2 turns later, everyone else declares war on Greece. It would be nice for everyone to assist in my strive to eliminate Greece, but the only nation that can fight them without intruding into my territory is America.
