So I was really great friends with the Iroquois for sometime. We traded, we waged war upon France and Siam, and we even struck up a defensive pact together, and did research. But one day, he stopped wanting to make declarations of friendship. He stopped with the defensive pacts, And he didn't want to research together. Anyway, after plowing through occupied France, and up to his capital city, he continued to offer me peace treaties for nearly all of my strategic resources. So you might wonder what caused this tragic decline in our friendship. Well, it was because I chose to settle on this tiny island, really far away from everything else for Karkatoa [t]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/938122455184379371/661B67C5BF16B915C97F58E7CD677E154661D9EB/[/t] (also it took until 1585 AD in that screenie for Stonehenge to get finished, lols) This my tale, I struck them down from their position of a super power. Now Germany is rising up, and I'm worried again. They desire friendly relationships with our empire.
Stories from players Civilization 5 games will never become dull.
It seems like one of the easiest ways to get ahead of the other civilizations in this game is to befriend yourself with as many maritime states as you can. Just one of them gives you a 50% food yield in your capitol, so if you befriend a bunch of them your city will explode in growth. In an Emperor game my capitol was at 21 growth while the second largest capitol was only at 14
There was a long, snaky island causing my shops to take long tips around it to the East of my island, so I sent a Conquistador to a one tile thick part in the middle, set up a side, and gave it to my friend England, who was just North of it, and now my ships can pass right through it.
Fuck barbarians in the ass with a rake
I don't want to continue my current game, because Persia is making Gandhi look like a bitch. He's down to about 3 towns.
Time to jump back into my playthrough. All that's left to do is liberate Grand River. Those fucks thought they could stomp me out early game, now it's my turn to storm back!
Alexander tried founding Christianity a long time ago, upon checking up on his little corner of the world, I noticed it was exclusively practiced as a major religion in only his capital. Literally everybody else (Dido who founded it, The Mongols, the Romans, and the rest of the Greeks) practice the Islamic beliefs. What makes it funnier is that hes been at War with Dido for a long time, and is now at a stalemate of sorts. It's kinda sad seeing his civ's founded religion pretty much overshadowed by a Civ whose about to be wiped out (by him no less, although they've been at a stalemate for sometime). (I myself practice Holy Celtic Buddhism, thank you very much.)
I love Ramesses' voice for some reason.
Religion Bonus Holy Warriors, what are your opinions on it? I myself think it's brilliant, a peaceful Civ can quickly overwhelm a more powerful warmongering Civ (like nearly all the Native Americans) by just keeping a reserve of faith and mass buying units should the enemy declare war.
Does anyone here disable barbarians or is it just me?
Barbarians are a pain in the arse at the beginning, but I had some awesome moments when fighting hordes of them. Besides they give your units at the beginning some huge boots when you try to keep them alive. I once had a squad of 3 warriors, they were incredibly upgraded and survived until the endgame, I upgraded them with the newest techs.
When barbarians capture your settlers. Oh my fucking god.
It's entertaining seeing as how Barbarians can obtain weapons and ships to carry their industrial-era soldiers, but still live in a circle of sticks pointed outward.

Church Property gives you plus 2 for every city that adopts it, Tithe gives you plus one for every 4 followers that adopt it. Also there's initiation rights which gives you an instant 100g when a city first converts. Sprinkle in some Byzantium and you get a nice recipe for lodes-e-mone. [editline]30th June 2012[/editline] My record is 115gpt from religion only. I challenge facepunch to beat that.

Gandhi is still being made into Persia's bitch, but the war over there has gone into a sort of stalemate. I took Athens and Corinth, and razed a useless town to the north that belonged to Greece. Greece is reduced to one town, and the only resource they have is uranium, which they aren't developed enough to even make use of. All the world's uranium is either claimed or too far away to obtain, so I used the rest of my uranium on death bots and nuclear missiles. Russia is one of the last small civilizations, and poorly developed, like America. The world is about to split into at least 3 major powers, those powers being Me (Germany), Persia, and Arabia. America is close to becoming a major power, but they just entered the Modern era and it will take time and hope that no other major power attacks them. Gandhi was one early-mid game, but Persia has been buttfucking them since about 2020 (it's 2060 now). Japan just got wiped out by Arabia, and America has no friends now.
I wish my friends would be more willing to play with me, but the internet gameplay for this is so laggy and unstable.
Playing an extended era's historical speed game starting from Classical Era on a Terra random map with the only victory conditions being domination or diplomacy. I don't have the most neighbourly people living near me: Arabia captured one of my cities then lost their capital to the Incas, I show no mercy retaking their new capital and defeating them A few turns later, The incas declare war, so I capture Mecca, returning it to the Arabs and bringing them back into the game... My reward... "You have warred in the past but they do not hold grudges" I don't trust the Dutch either, they seem to believe I am a warmongering menace to the world when I am only retaking what is mine. Behind the Incas is Napoleon, Denouncing me because of a friendship with America that happened right at the beginning of the game. So far, I've been making a large counter attack against the Incas, Massed Chariot Archers, Horsemen, Triremes and Galleasses to so far, destroy their armies, but not directly attacking their cities yet, need more pikemen and catapults to do that. My current long term plan has been powering up the Sailing side of the tech tree so I can get Astrology and quickly get to another continent. I'm currently part way through researching education, which will finally unlock Astrology and thus, Caravels and cross ocean embarking. This has left me relatively weak militarily, with only pikemen, chariot archers and Babylon bowmen against enemy swordsmen, catapults and composite bowmen. Any sort of advice for the next stage of my plan, do I finally get Iron working from about 200 turns behind everyone else?
Whoever said Alexander would inevitably turn on me was right. Thankfully, I repelled his offensive against my Northernmost city and managed to finally liberate Grand River. Unfortunately, I also had to accept terrible peace terms so I could shift my focus to the Celts, who had gathered outside Grand River and quickly declared war. But still, It's good to finally have taken back my city. I've also caught up to the rest of the world in technology. I really hope Alexander's Hoplites become obsolete soon.
When barbarians capture your settlers. Oh my fucking god.
I never disable barbarians simply because of the pressure they put on you while you're starting out. But having to deal with them trying to bombard my capital every damn time I start a new game is just a pain in the ass, but hey, at least they provide a distraction for everyone when the game starts. If it weren't for Barbarians pestering people around the start, I'd probably be England or Montezuma's bitch 50 turns in.
Remember when I said I wanted to pla ya small science-focused game? Well, my randomly picked civ mates are : Genghis Khan, Elizabeth, Gandhi, Harun al-rashid, Augustus Caesar, Montezuma and one other bastard that I haven't met yet, either Siam or China. Elizabeth lost 3 capitals to me, London, york and nottingham and I will soon capture the other two more develoepd towns and leave her with a crippled yarwick stuck in the north pole for ever. That bitch should never have backstabbed me. gandhi however is starting to think I'm bad and turned out to like colonization. he colonized a set of islands with 3 cities which I probably will never take, al-rashid is a massive power, same for genghis. Montezuma was conquered to fuck and back and left locked with 2 cities, I'll let that poor bastard be. Gandhi is the real concern here, the only reason I'm pulling the final stab at england is so I can focus my troops on my other border, the one with Gandhi. Delhi has 50~ defense points but is lvl 22 and is right around the corner. If I take it, I'll have a big coastal village south, locked from support except from sea which I can also take. The only issue is that he has allied himself to Siam/China, they'll probably be weak, anyway.
I remember back to when I first started my current game, and Khan decided to declare war on me. I hadn't realized that I spawned in central Africa yet, and a turn or so later, I discovered Caesar, who was on the Arabian peninsula. I then moved all my troops up to Khan's towns, and bent him over a bar and fuck him back and forth. I only lost one unit of Warriors that I forgot to upgrade. Then I began my conquest for the world.
WOW FUCK YOU GERMANY. One turn before completing my utopia project and he fucking completes the last piece of the spaceship
WOW FUCK YOU GERMANY. One turn before completing my utopia project and he fucking completes the last piece of the spaceship
We know that feel.
I wish my friends would be more willing to play with me, but the internet gameplay for this is so laggy and unstable.
We have trouble even on LAN. We tried a large game (two humans and 6 AI on a huge map) and by mid-Industrial-era it got to a point where the calculations between turns were so extreme they'd actually drop one or both of us human players from the game. We find that if we stick to small games of 6 total players on a smaller map it's alright though
I'm keen to get Civ V but I don't want to wait a week or two for the sales, I can get the GOTY edition on Greenman for $35, and that beats the $80 it is on steam. Question is, do I wait or cave?
Looks like I'm going to be starting a new game. Sejong is spamming my nation with artillery (after turning into the Hulk with its unfair speed-boost after regaining their fucking capital (and by spamming, I mean he's producing artillery units with at least 6 of his ~15 cities and sending them my way)), and they took one of my cities by force. I thought he was going to propose peace with me, since he started building trading posts on his side of our western borderline. Sadly, it turned out that he was only getting prepared to trade with Adrianople (my western city), after snatching it from me. Making peace with anyone after being at war with them is so fucking pointless, since they'll just rev up their war machine right after the 10-turn grace period is over. Sejong is one of the biggest cunts in the game, and to make matters worse, Elizabeth and Bismarck won't help me out. I allied myself with Germany, and then England, but then Bismarck made nice with Sejung and I can't get any help. Elizabeth is PMSing real bad, keeping to herself in her dingy little dingleberry of a nation and keeps waving her fist at me for being friends with Bismarck. Bismarck is a coward, Elizabeth is a bitch, and Sejung is Gandhi's cunt of a Korean cousin. I might just go ahead and be the tyrant they make themselves out to be on my next game, destroying every other leader that bothers to even smile at me, because they'll only turn into backstabbing jerks later on. I remember waiting for some imaginary sale on a game that I'd been hoping to get for a while. It went down to about $40 bucks after being out for a while, but literally a day before it went on sale, I bought it. On the day it went on sale, it was $15. I felt like a complete idiot for spending so much on it, and I regretted buying it ever since.
They really should rename the combat terms of 'melee' and 'range' to 'direct' and 'indirect.'
