Anyone up for a game of Gods and Kings?
What is the difference between the demo and the full version?
Well, you can't play as other civs and you're stuck playing one map, plus you have a short time limit.
Otherwise, really nothing.

Thanks.
I know a lot of you don't really care, but one thing that definitely got me into Civ was reading about other peoples' Civ games. So I feel like throwing one of my stories out there.
I also had a very great game as Germany. I was all the way across the world when I realized that Montezuma, the biggest asshole in my game, was only three components away from completing the space shuttle. I knew I didn't have enough time to win the game, so I made a small fleet with a some land troops (literally just two infantry, anti-air, a tank, and an artillery), a couple battleships, and two carriers with some fighters and atomic bombs in a makeshift attempt to stop him from winning the game. At this point in the game, he had completely taken over one half of the world and could've easily invaded the rest of the world if he wanted to. He had technology that was about a three-quarters of a tier above mine, and he had a nuclear arsenal and he was just dying to find someone to use it on.
You could tell I was in for a fun ride. :v:
Immediately after declaring war, he stationed almost all of his guided missiles and atomic bombs at the coast where I was invading. Fortunately for me, I was able to capture the city with his nuclear arsenal before he could use it to wipe my whole fleet off the face of the planet (although he could've had more, but I never saw any other atomic weapons) and later another city on his coast, and I was able to make a foothold on his empire. I readied the troops and attacked another city. However, resistance was stiff and the city changed hands a couple of times before I was able to finally capture it. Montezuma continued to send wave after wave of baddies my way all the while he continued to add onto his space shuttle. By the time I was able to subdue the last wave, I noticed he was only one component away from victory!
I knew I had little time to waste and I had to make it to his city and fast, else risk him becoming interstellar and bring nuclear chaos upon the world from orbit (if he could do that, of course). However, I only had a few units at my disposal, although more than before, since I was able to get reinforcements from the other side of the world. Not to mention, my scouts had noticed the next city was occupied by a GIANT DEATH ROBOT (before being crushed to death). I had no choice but to make the war go atomic.
I dropped the bomb right on the city. Surprisingly, it only took it to half damage (first time ever using an atomic weapon) and didn't kill their GIANT DEATH ROBOT, but did damage it greatly. However, the GIANT DEATH ROBOT was able to take out my artillery before I could put it down with my battleship. Although that cleared the robot situation, Montezuma still had only one component to go, so I quickly moved and took two more cities with my (non-atomic) bombers and fighters in tow.
However, upon capturing the last of the two cities, I found myself surrounded by modern tanks, helicopters, SAM devices. Essentially his whole army on that side of the continent came over to end my insurrection once and for all. I thought I was doomed for sure, considering the only two tanks I had were both older and there was no way they could hold back such a huge military. However, I found myself surprised as I was able to hold them off.
However, they kept coming. I knew if they kept coming after me they'd be able to whittle away at my units and push me back, which would make it near impossible to stop them from getting to space. However, my brilliant (see: average) military mind came into play, and I came up with a plan. I diverged two of my battleships to one of their coastal cities and constantly bombarded it. All the while, I was able to upgrade my tanks to a more modern variant after I was able to finally finish researching lasers (apparently). However, to really seal the deal, I decided to drop another atomic bomb on top of the forces I could see, which crippled them severely.
At the end of all of those military shenanigans, their military blockade was almost completely shattered. I was able to capture the coastal city and a good half of what was left of their forces (it wasn't a lot) went over to attempt to capture it back. Their capital was almost completely open! I might be able to make it after all! I sent what was left of my land and air forces to the last city before the capital. I was expecting to meet some resistance, but it seemed that Montezuma was too scared to move some of his units from the other end of his empire all the way up there just in case Siam or Korea (both laughable militaries in comparison) decided to invade. Somehow, I was able to capture the capital and another few cities with very little resistance. I didn't know how the hell I did it, but I did. Their capital, and thus their dreams of the stars, were now under my control. And with no nuclear incidents... upon my side, anyhow.
At the end, Montezuma signed a peace treaty with me and stayed out of my way for the rest of the game, save for the occasional denouncement. I continued to occupy what I found out later was a laughably small dent of his empire with no incident. However, I found out only a couple of turns later how close he was to victory. During his turn, I noticed his military moving around at the border. However, among his military units was the last component that he needed for the space shuttle. It had been completed and all he would've needed to do was move it to the capital before I had captured it and he would've won. That was almost scary to see how close I came to losing it all.
However, I made one major blunder, one that would make me fear for the future of the world. During my campaign, in my haste to complete the turn, I accidentally liberated what I thought was a city-state, one which I had dropped one of my atomic bombs on (a move that, later, I would find ironic). However, I quickly realized Mumbai wasn't one as I was greeted with the great beast that appeared before me; his face one that strikes fear in even the more powerful of leaders. I realized now why Montezuma wanted to stop me, he knew what kind of chaos I could bring upon our globe if I had woken up the sleeping beast he had cast away in the darkest depths of the world. But now, I finally realized the atomic holocaust that Montezuma tried to contain was about to come to fruition as my mind finally knew the name of the figure my eyes had laid upon.
It was Ghandi.
Thankfully, though, Ghandi was only in the Renaissance era and I scored a cultural victory a few turns later. :v:
TL;DR: [sp]Went to war with Montezuma with only a few units and him only a few components away from science victory. Was able to fight and nuke my way to take his capital right before he was able to move his last component he had just completed there to finish his space shuttle. In my haste, I accidentally liberated Ghandi and began his 1000 year reign of nuclear chaos.[/sp]

I've been playing Civ 5 for a while after buying it a few weeks ago and I'm having a lot of fun pillaging South America as the Vikings but I keep crashing to desktop after playing for a while.
I'll be playing the game for 10-15 minutes or so, then the game will freeze, go to black and crash with this message.
FGXRenderer11;;present failed hr=DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_Removed. Driver Failure.
I've already tried verifying my GCFs to no avail. Does anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it?

I have the exact same issue.
Would you happen to be running on an nvidia card?

Apparently, it's a problem with the leader screens when you get contacted. I heard updating drivers to new beta ones can fix the issue, but if it doesn't, try this workaround I stole shamelessly from the SPUF.
For me, the problem occurred only when another leader contacted me, so turning off leaderheads "fixed" the problem. To do that, edit your config.ini at "<user directory>/My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/" and change "LeaderHead = 0" to "LeaderHead = 1"
I get a blank gray screen whenever talking to another leader, but at least it's stopped crashing
No you don't. I just had to work with a Windows phone today at work. Fucking nightmare. It isn't compatible with anything.
That trick seems to have worked, my game didn't crash, allowing me to wipe out my first enemy civ ever, the Siamese.

Can anyone explain me how do the non luxury resources (Food, production) work
I played this game for 10 hours and I still dont understand what am I spending when buying new buildings/units. For example it says that it costs "73 production", what does that mean

Your cities each produce x production/turn. If it costs 73 production, divide the amount of production the city you're building in by x p/t and you get the amount of turns to build it.
To find your p/t click on the city name that you're building in and check the number next to the hammer icon.

As production is explained in the post above mine, perfectly. I'll do the easier one.
More food = less turns until you get a new citizen.
Citizens work on nearby tiles and/or as specialists to give your town more income in gold, or research.
Hm, for some reason playing as difficulty 3 nobody has tried to kill me yet. Everybody is friendly... Too friendly...

Got mine yesterday
Yep. 22 AI players.
I shall pray for your safety. I just hope you're far away from him.
What makes Gandhi so bad? I thought he was a peaceful guy, or is that the joke?

His AI is the most prone to using nuclear weapons, making him incredibly dangerous. Although some believe this might have been a simple data entry error they kept in because it's funny.
Which it is. :v:

So he might actually be a peaceful, cultured nation instead of a warmongering nuclear asshole! :v:

Really? that seems silly to me
Well, I don't know how to search events, but if you do, try it.
God damnit, was having shit tons of fun with the demo, had just declared war on Seoul, then the demo ran out.

His "nuke rating" in the AI is actually 12 out of 10.
