Odd, I didn't know civ's could be afraid of you. I don't even know why Pascal is afraid of me.
Usually happens if you have a large amount of something like land, units, money or strategic resources, I think.
Usually happens if you have a large amount of something like land, units, money or strategic resources, I think.
Must be because of my culture. I'm playing a OCC and the only thing I really have is culture.
So after a week or so of having 5 games on the go at once, i have won my first Gods & kings game, and it was bloody painfull to play. Unaware of the full changes the game has under taken i only went to king difficulty. I was playing the Celts on what i think was a medium map with 8 bots. I was happy with my spawn and flew miles ahead into the lead, unfortunatly i was in the middle of shitfest central, less than 100 turns into the game, The greeks and the Inquas took it in turns to circlejerk wars upon my 'weak and feable' civilisation, these wars would continue for the duration of the game. By 500 turns into the game i was 200 points ahead of everyone, my tech was sky high and my army was the 2nd largest but was really the most powerfull, my religeon was unstopbale and i had every single wonder in my city except 3, 2 of which i could not build. Things were smooth sailing, despite the near constant wars. At this point i had not met any other civ's. So i reach the renasance era and got my first spy, great. I could not get any tech from other civs so my spy just sat doing spy stuff away from home. The 'Fun' started when my mortal enemies caught up and got their own spys, i hauled my spy back home but it meant litterally fuck all, these fucking leeches had spies falling out of their asses and constantly stole tech from me and i could do fuck all about it, i'd stop one of them only to have another cunt steal from me the very next turn. Around this point i met Spain who must have sent a bloody spy other the same turn she met me cause i killed one of them shortly there after. Persia and Germany also showed up for the same party all be it a bit late. Long story short, every single fucking Civ on the planet hated me started wars on me and stole shit from me every other turn. (except for Spain who always wanted to be friends, fuck off bitch), my city state friends we're also subject to constant election rigging and wars too. Eventually despite not being under any real threat, i was overtaken on every demographic except soldiers. Every fucker constantly telling me i had a puny civ and denouncing me when they were not actively at war with me, i had to put up with bullshit peace treaties like this after another invasion force got fucked up by my vett'd armies. But i endured and stuck to my gameplan, I don't neeed to explore the world or any of that shit so do what ever the fuck you want, you aint getting past my armies and i'm gonna get my culture win 1000's of turns before you reach space or diplomacy, or even nukes. My 'Puny' Civ just won against a world that collectively hated my fucking guts. After all that, I miss Great scientists giving a free tech, not just an injection of science (i just thought the game was bugged after the 4th scientest just appeared to give me nothing) I wish there was more you could do with a spy especially when your ahead, maybe halting / slowing down another civ's tech progress, or planting nukes / killing some of the population (like the old poison water supply), something other than simply looking at the city screen. At the same time i want there to be more you can do against spies, i kid you not when i say i had tech leaking out my arse, I had loads of money and every building i could buy and i could do nothing to stop the spying but hope my vet 3 spy could kill them / ask them to piss off after my tech was gone. It don't have to be alot, stuff like a garrison'd unit slows them down more or even a specialist building that helps with the search or something.
Constables and police stations slow down their tech stealing.
Constables and police stations slow down their tech stealing.
Already had them, did pretty much nothing.
Already had them, did pretty much nothing.
Great Firewall.
Great Firewall.
The game was won before i got there so in this case it was too far off to be of any use to me, the damage was already done before the game entered the industrial era. A single spy can't stop 5 spies simultaniously, as i said i killed one but the others would always get a tech and the one i'd kill would move back into my city the next turn to start over.
I am playing my second game and I am trying to be as friendly to everyone as possible It is quite easy, the only leader who is not my friend is Hiawatha and every city state in the world is my ally
I'm sorry but why in gods name do you have trading posts on hills instead of mines?
It was race for most intake, so being the civ noob i am i figured trading posts wherever possible would help!
Its really pissing me off how my allies keep sending great prophets to convert my holy city and the only way to stop them is to declare war and capture the great prophet before they do it. They can just stroll right into my territory even without open borders.

[editline]31st July 2012[/editline]
So many times this And if you happen to do the same thing they will hate you
You can still harbor resentment to them, you know this right?

Might get a bit expensive though
The Mayans converted my holy city 2 times (I converted it back both times with inquistors/missionaries). I was rather ticked off at them so when I saw that prophet coming back to my territory I ended up launching multiple missles at him. Pacal got mad of course and declared war, but we never actually fought, he asked for peace 3 turns later and gave me 500 gold. Thats what I call justice.
They really need to add the option to demand them to stop spreading their religion to you, just like they can demand of you i am tired of wasting my religion points on just because these assholes don't get the picture

The AI will basically rubber-band itself back up to me with a combination of spies and AI handicap bonuses, it's really annoying. They should have to make their own spies, the free spy for everyone is a bit much.
You can make spies yourself?
Spies are cool, if your not in the lead in everything. They are really not useful whatsoever when your in the lead. I wish you could steal gold, disrupt production, research, plant bombs (very hard obv.), poison the water supply, and other things. Maybe even biological warfare? Carry in some vials of anthrax and let it lose hoping for the best? Imagine you competing with a rival civ, they are just about to complete that god fucking amazing wonder that you really want and are just a little behind, but at the current pace you would lose. Pop a spy into their city and have them organize an 'accident' at the construction site. Whoops 15 turns of building that shit is gone, victory! You build it before them! But nope, spies do fuck all for you when your in the lead.

I like some of the things you're saying, but some of it (15 turns, gone? That's enough time to build an army) is a bit much.

Not sure what it's called, I don't own the game and I can only play when I go to my friends house, has only happened a few times), any anti-spy buildings in the city, perhaps something to do with the safety of the city (military presence?) or happiness, and of course the difficulty and game length (or whatever it's called). And yeah there should be a balance, perhaps even an option to enable/disable certain spy functions in game? Don't want spies bombing cities? Disable it! I don't know just spewing ideas out.
You can make spies yourself?
No, I just mean that they should have to hit the renaissance era themselves to get one, rather then getting a freebie that lets them mooch tech for 100 turns till they catch up. Anyone else's game getting really crashy lately? I'm not sure if it's the mods I'm running or the maps or what.
So I just started playing and game is pretty fun but I was wondering are you able to save the tutorial? I have been doing it for like an hour and have to go to work but I don't want to quit and loose my progress. I know your meant to go onto the menu but in my menu I only see Quit Game and Quit to Windows?
I think you can, yeah, press Escape, isn't there an option to save?

The Austrians had been converted by the Celts and somehow became the dominant Christian Empire because the Celts were wiped out by the Romans. Suddenly one day I see a little prophet (Probably Jesus or something) coming to convert people away from my homebrew religion. Religion is certainly powerful.
Anyone want to get a GnK game up and running in the next few hours? Me and Eeshton need some more people to join. To play just add me on steam, cool.
Yeah, we were gonna play with Mr. Agree and PieClock but they can never seem to be on at the same time :V
We are? I didn't know about this. :v: Oh never mind, I read your post wrong. I'd be happy to get a game going with you two, but as you said, it's hard enough to find Mr. Agree and I online at the same time nevermind all of us.
Well I told Mr. Agree (felton), that we were ready for the past few days now :V Also does anybody know how to get the steam ID thing to work, i tried my original sign up name, current name on steam, profile steam id and ingame steam id and nothing worked.
I don't see an option to save in the tutorial mission
