so im starting to learn how to play civ, since this is the first civ game i played. I just conquered my first nation(i guess), it only took me 4000 years, we've been waging war on and off for quite some time now though. I guess i'm doing something wrong though, because it's 2037 and I'm just now in the atomic age :/

On Prince, I was in the Information era at around that year while about half of the world was still in the Industrial era. :v:
I just got done conquering the world as the germans. I did what Hitler never could.
Trying to do the same thing but having my religion set to Judiasm. Here's to irony!
just won a game I've been playing with 22 civs huge world marathon speed
If I play an Epic length game on Warlord (I'm not very good at Civ) in a huge map, will I still ridiculously out pace the other Civs in technology? Or will they overtake me? I just want to play a game where I'm around the same the Era as the other Civs, I hate it when I get to the point of nuking cities and they're still in the Renaissance/Industrial Era. Also, should I be doing research in a pretty much even spread across the board or specialising in a particular branch while keeping the others up to date when I can?
For me (unless i'm Polynesia) I beeline towards Astronomy (click on it in the tech tree, the game will handle the rest) then try and get anything important really.

I'm at turn 168 (80BC I think) as Korea, on the settings I mentioned above. Everything was fine (aside from the lack of gold and a little food problem in my capital), I'd built 3 cities and was getting along with my neighbours (they were propping up my economy in exchange for some luxuries). Now I'm on the terrifyingly defensive side of a border war with Rome with a woefully inadequate military. On the bright side, the other Civs aren't out pacing me in the tech race...
just won a game I've been playing with 22 civs huge world marathon speed
How many weeks did that take?
How the fuck didn't I know of this? THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!
Rating you late, even though I discovered it yesterday, on accident.
How come Korea always instantly wants to be my friend when I play as America?
Finished a game as Ethiopia with a cultural victory, on a continents map. My neighbors were the Germans, the Aztecs, and Carthage. I put my spy in the Aztec capital, and it constantly said that they were planning a sneak attack against me. The Aztecs declared war on me for about 15 turns, then wanted peace, and as soon as the peace treaty wore off; he would always declare war again. This went on from the near start of the game, to the end. I hate Montezuma.
Rumor has it, the Aztecs don't have a peace music theme.
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that India's unique ability is really weak? I mean, the unhappiness for placing more cities bites really hard, and the population size unhappiness only really needs to be managed later on. It could be a long term benefit for a culture game with maybe 2 cities, but you're gimped really heavily by it for early game expansion to a total of 3 cities. I know that India is for going tall, but there are better uniques for that, and the only thing India has going for it is the fact that Ghandi's AI dictates that he will have anywhere from a 10-14 out of 10 nuke rating (I think the AI baseline has a +-2 for determining their characteristics iirc) Not to mention that India's unique is pretty much the only one I can think of with a penalty.
Not to mention that India's unique is pretty much the only one I can think of with a penalty.
Ehh, not true. All the elephant units are slower than their cavalry counterparts, and all the horse archer units are weaker in melee than the melee counterparts.
Ehh, not true. All the elephant units are slower than their cavalry counterparts, and all the horse archer units are weaker in melee than the melee counterparts.
I meant the racial abilities, not units. Even then, the units are all better in one aspect or another, whilst with India it's nearly all a penalty.
I meant the racial abilities, not units. Even then, the units are all better in one aspect or another, whilst with India it's nearly all a penalty.
Oh. Well, some nations like the Ottomans or England might as well not have their unique on pangaea maps, so that might count.
Is it possible to achieve the Apollo program by 1900?
It's possible to achieve it by the 1800s, so yes.
Wasn't there someone in this thread that reached the modern era by 500 AD? I mean if that's possible, then I don't see why having the Apollo Project by the 1900s wouldn't be. [editline]21st August 2012[/editline] Wait, nope, sorry, that was a mistake. He was in the Modern Era before 320 AD. :v:
Earliest I was able to reach the modern era was in the 1500's as Germany. It was so much fun stomping knights and horsemen with my glorious Blitzkrieg of panzers and infantry. The whole world was mine within 200 years. Hitler can suck my dick, I am the true Fuhrer von Deutschland.
I was once in Industrial at 100BC, Modern at 1100AD.
I really have to figure out how you guys do it so fast. The earliest i'm getting the Apollo program is the 1600's :/

It really annoys me that I can play on Emperor like it's Cheiftain. [editline]25th August 2012[/editline] Also has anybody else been able to simply outgrow the tile working limits?
Also has anybody else been able to simply outgrow the tile working limits?
Yes, that is supposed to happen. If you go for a OCC culture game and build the great wall as Washington, this can be deadly. Also, I believe there is a wonder that decreases tile cost.
I really have to figure out how you guys do it so fast. The earliest i'm getting the Apollo program is the 1600's :/
You think that's bad? The earliest I've ever reached the Apollo program was 1980. I feel incredibly inferior to everyone here. :(
With gods and kings I try to use what I could be for science into gold or production, just so I can say my spies aren't completely useless
Apollo program in 100AD is so cool.
Howdy, all. A friend of mine and myself recently completed a Civ representation of Khorvaire from the Eberron D&D setting. If you all could, I'd love for you to check it out and give some feedback. At the risk of sounding like an uptight PR guy defending a shitty game or something, a tip on the design: If you start in one of the jungles or marshes, try weighing the choices of either leaving to find a better initial city location, or rushing Bronze Working to take advantage of the resources those areas might have. We left those areas as they were because we thought they might have some interesting gameplay. And yes, resource distribution is based on the material goods output of the actual nations of Khorvaire as outlined in the campaign setting books. Give it a shot! Leave a comment!
