I hope for your sake you can completely win that war. Catherine never makes peace with fucking ANYONE.
Feels weird hearing people say this. The first time i played i hit random and got catherine and i've been rolling the glorious motherland since then and i always try to play peaceful because i'm not so hot when it comes to wars.
If I was in your situation, I wouldn't have attacked arabia so soon. Of course, this is your game so it might have been the best move for you. I would have attacked arabia but just play it on the defensive so they waste production on their military so when I attack them later to wipe them out, I have a much more powerful and advanced military and they're stuck with horsemen
I always go on the offensive if I can. They get all the fun and devastation, so even if I do get beaten off, they waste time rebuilding while I can quickly replace units and go back in for round two. Yeah, I ended up pulling out while Caesar was practically tripping over me to get at them. :v: It had a happy ending, though. I kicked Caesars ass all the way back to Rome. I am only wondering how I can possibly deal with Ethiopia. [editline]30th December 2012[/editline]
Feels weird hearing people say this.
I hope for your sake you can completely win that war. Catherine never makes peace with fucking ANYONE.
She made peace with me after the 12th nuke. She also gave me all of her oil and coal.
She made peace with me after the 12th nuke. She also gave me all of her oil and coal.
Now that sir, is how you negotiate in politics.
I am in a wee bit of a predicament folks. Playing as Japan, found 4 cities within the span of 30 turns. Find out I am sharing a rather too close relationship (border) with Arabia. Ethiopia, Arabia, and Rome all unite against Denmark, kick his sorry ass, leave him with only a couple of cities. Intrigue tells me I am Arabia's next target. lol Rush to research gunpowder and chem, I amass a fairly big invasion force, rush in and take Mecca, Damascus, and raze Medina. He is holed up in fucking Baghdad with camel archers and crossbowmen, surrounded by jungle and a mountain on the side that I am trying to attack from. The only ways in are a northwest route through tons of jungle, a route through a small lake, and a southwest route with a couple of hills. The fucker already severely beat one of my cannons, crushed two musketmen, and is so far holding his own against what force I have already landed from the lake, but is slowly losing ground. To top things off, Ethiopia is beginning to be an ass and settle/expand cities close to where I am having my main forces march through. I don't want to start a multi-front war, especially with me on the offensive against Ethiopia. What do. [editline]29th December 2012[/editline] Also, I am going to try a domination victory, if that helps any.
Leave him, chances are he's already pretty crippled and won't be a threat any more. And you already got his capital (mecca's the arabian capital, right?) so you can just move on.
So I just got Civ V, and is there any mods that make the AI less back-stabby? Not a single civilization I've ever met has stayed a friend for longer than 10 turns.

Have a spy in one of their other cities besides capital (to mainly gather intrigue, don't want him being killed) to give you a nice heads up when trouble is about to strike. If they are about to come knocking, do not hesitate. Take out as many units as you can, and if possible, capture a few cities and raze/pillage everything you can. Make sure they will not be a threat in the (near) future. [editline]30th December 2012[/editline]
She made peace with me after the 12th nuke.
I hope for your sake you can completely win that war. Catherine never makes peace with fucking ANYONE.
Holy fuck I wish I knew this tonight. Me and Catherine/Russia were best friends, up until she became a greedy whore and annexed Chicago from me out of nowhere. After getting Chicago back, we were deadlocked for the next 3 hours, neither of us wanting to submit to each others peace treaties. Luckily, since I'm making like 200 GPT, I was able to easily keep the pressure on Moscow and right when it had zero health and was ready to be annexed, I got her to agree to a peace treaty for all of her luxury resources. She then had the nerve to denounce me the turn after and India said they're plotting against me. She'll never learn, will she?
I played Russia on islands map and i got spawned in the worst location ever. A island without any farm able land surrounded by ice. And Catherine AI is smart, but i managed to fuck them with bribery and the fact i controlled every city state on the map, apart from Vatican,Rome was pissy(till i marched onto their capital and murdered everyone, playing Mongolia is fun)

[editline]30th December 2012[/editline] Hell, I'd sooner be friends with Alex or Monty then either of the above.
So I just got this in the sale, any tips on how to do well in combat? I keep getting my ass handed to me at beginner difficulty (chieftain).
Dont fight uphill, into trees or across rivers.
The less health your units have, the less damage they'll deal. Only exception is Japan: their units deal damage as if they were 100% healed, even if they only have 1% health left. Fortifying gives nice bonuses: a combat bonus when you defend and you heal every turn. Keeping units alive = more upgrades = better in combat. Whittle with ranged units first, stay out of range of cities until you can attack them with siege weapons or battering rams if you're Atilla the Hun. respect the rock-papers-scissors system: preferably keep your archers on hills so they can also fire over forests and so on that are on plains. Spearmen vs cavalry, heavy infantry (swordsmen and so on) versus spearmen and cities, cavalry versus archers, archers versus everyone as long as they stay out of melee. since the latest patch, looting a tile heals your unit. It also gives gold, making raiding strikes a viable and good tactic.

Ghandi actually stays your friend if you don't piss him off somehow.
No, Montezuma backstabs the most often. Gandhi actually stays your friend if you don't piss him off somehow.
The problem is that he can be really easy to piss off. If you even so much as think about throwing a pebble into the border of one if his allies, he will come down on you harder than the british came down on him.

I bought it around 3 o'clock today and got my keys an hour and a half later. working perfectly now, activated on steam without a problem
I've started a game on an Earth map as Persia. I spawned in China and sent an army over the Bering Strait (because I thought Ramseses was there and he was pissing me off) and discovered the city-state of Lhasa there. I didn't want to go to the trouble of making a settler to have a city in the New World so I decided I'd conquer it. Unfortunately, in the moment I attacked, I found that there was already a civ there. "Are you sure you want to attack Lhasa? They are currently under the protection of: India" I've made a terrible mistake.
has anyone tried the windows 8 touchscreen version yet? i'm kinda curious seems like to would work really well in civ

Seriously, they're so fucking OP that it's silly. Every major strategic resource yields double.

Gonna ask here since if I ask in its thread I will get biased opinions. I have played civ since CIV II, enjoyed them all and love the game Should I buy endless space while its on sale now? Some people are comparing it to CIV in space and that sounds cool as fuck seeing as I love civ

This game looks so great, I played it once at a friends house and I loved it. Would anyone be kind enough to gift it to a pleb like me while it's on sale? Me wuv u long tiem. <3
Well I bought the expansion over the weekend after not playing the game for some time and It will not launch... Ive tried verifying game files and updating everything. Also un/reinstalled the game...anyone else experience this?
I was trying to coast through the rest of my current game aiming to get a Science Victory. I has made peace with all the other countries, and while it was a tentative peace, no one had the will to break it. Then I was informed that my Spy that I've had nearly the whole game died while operating in India... I couldn't take it; I offered Russia an absurd amount of GPT to declare war on India, and after they agreed, I declared war as well. What followed was a barrage of nukes, which I was able to launch a few of them at their capital city.
What would be the most fun way of playing the game? I was thinking going for a science victory would be but I'm not sure.
I think I ruined a friendship with Keshiks last night. It was late and we kinda both went insane, at one point I think I thought I was Genghis Khan.
What would be the most fun way of playing the game? Science could be bullshit because you might be close to winning, but your opponent might send their ship and win.
i used to love civ 5 but it got boring eventually since id just press the turn button every 5 minutes is gods and kings worth it?
