Going to try a small empire for the first time in Civ V. Which faction do you guys recommend for a small empire? I was thinking Egypt or India but I'm not sure.

Ethiopia. Just make sure you have fewer cities then people you want to attack and boom, combat bonus galore.
Should I attack people and like burn their cities? I don't want to expand I want to have a handful of cities and thats it.
Nah, do peace and play for a culture victory. he probably told you about ethiopia so you can defend yourself better since you're new to the combat.
In my current game, I'm playing for a cultural victory as babylon. I figure the extra scientists can pad the loss of rationalism as well as benefit from all the wonders/ great scientist points. The walls are neat, too.
Just a few more turns I swear
On a small continent map, I'm more or less to the right of the map, William I at the left, and no other than Gandhi settling everywhere that is available.
God damnit Gandhi.

Man Gandhi is such an asshole, right?
snip no fun allowed
Gandhi's just parking workers all over my roads so I can't get anywhere fast what the fuck Gandhi.
Gandhi is the biggest prick in every Civ game, I swear. I become allies with Greece, Rome, Russia and Germany in no time at all, and generally stay allies. Gandhi? 10 turns and he starts with the shit talking and demands. He changes his tune once I take/destroy half his shit. For about 10 turns, then he starts back up and I have to continue the shit-kicking.

after I took this pic, I managed to get about 40 turns of golden age, with around 20 turns before the pic
wow sorry about the quality
*prince difficulty btw
Is the key to rushing science citys? I'm pumping out 125 with two cities in 1665
god damn, a lot has changed from civ 4
and the ui is so good
I dislike how they removed the in-game worldbuilder

I think 1 citizen= 1 science
so having more cities with a side focus on luxuries is they way I go when i go for science
The policies I use were liberty, commerce, rationalism and order
Okay, what's the secret to cultural victories on higher difficulty settings?
Around ~200BC in every game I pursue a cultural victory, someone pushes my shit in with loads of military tech in an entirely unprovoked war.
However, when I tried to balance with good defensive war tech, Egypt ended up with the cultural victory 11 policies ahead of me.
What the fuck?

Yes. I got it and it is definitely worth it. Civ 5 alone without expansions is worth more than $20, and Civ 4 (Of what I've played and seen) is magnificent.
just won my first game in civ 5
woo
culture victory seems very easy to do though, is it worth it to build up a very good navy in vanilla civ 5?
Stop everything and get Gods & Kings.
too late
gods and kings has been acquired
Just bought Civ IV for no reason whatsoever.
Stop everything and get Gods & Kings.
I'm guessing this is a necessary expansion? New to this thread. All I've seen the past couple pages is G&K this and G&K that.
Yes, it adds a lot to the game.
What does it add? I love Civ 5 myself but I can't find any information on what's new in G&K (except for religion and something about naval combat).
so i'm guessing naval combat is way better in G&K?

There's lots of changes:
New civilizations
New wonders
New city states and quests
Three new scenarios: fall of rome, a middle age one, and a steampuke one.
New combat system (every unit has more health)
New units.
And faith
That's all I can think of on the top of my head.
All the info is in the official website: www.civilization5.com/godsandkings/us/index.php
How the fuck do you get like 90 happiness?
How the fuck do you get like 90 happiness?
Religion, loads of luxury resources and the patronage/commerce trees + allied city states
it's easy late game if you know what you're doing.
Most of my playthroughs have become into: Play as china, expand and get as much science as possible and then steamroll everyone with tanks while they still have basic gunners.
I do the same with Babylon or Mayans (usually Mayans as nobody I play with has the Babylon DLC).
Playing as Napoleon, I guess I've just been warring with everyone. On Emperor difficulty, things are getting tough since I only enabled the Domination victory (which I'll probably regret later). Thankfully, I've already taken control of the English and Arabic empires, and it's only been 475 A.D. Eight more to go, while Gandhi and Montezuma are neighboring me.
wish me luck
One thing I can never wrap my mind around is exactly what I should always start my first city off with (as well as the units directly afterwards). I always start with a monument because liberty is usually the path I take and I get a free worker fairly easy, but I have no idea if I should do that.
