One thing I can never wrap my mind around is exactly what I should always start my first city off with (as well as the units directly afterwards). I always start with a monument because liberty is usually the path I take and I get a free worker fairly easy, but I have no idea if I should do that.
I think it's fine to do that in single player. I noticed in multiplayer people generally avoid anything culture related and just pump out military and workers, but that's a whole different game
I really am upset at Aspyr, the Mac publisher of this game. It's a few versions behind so my massive games I was having with 6 of my friends had to be out on halt because of me. Endless Space has been our temp 4X filler but I do want to be able to play Civ V again. It's been months of "Version Mismatch"
what's the best civ for like, maximum science by "maximum science" i mean getting to the modern era by 800 ad
what's the best civ for like, maximum science by "maximum science" i mean getting to the modern era by 800 ad
Babylon for the Liberty/Order policy trees, and Korea for the Tradition/Freedom policy trees.
Is that getting to modern era at 800ad even possible? The best I've been able to do is get to modern era in the early 1900s
So I just got the game and started a game. I used the map of Earth and I loved it. So I wanted to play multiplayer with a friend today but I didn't see an option for that map. Is there a way to add it or is it called something else or what?
Is that getting to modern era at 800ad even possible? The best I've been able to do is get to modern era in the early 1900s
I've seen people in the modern era as early as 300 AD. I think I actually pulled it off one time but I pretty much slowed to a halt after that.
Gandhi's just parking workers all over my roads so I can't get anywhere fast what the fuck Gandhi.
Those aren't workers anymore. They're just more cannon fodder in the great Indian war machine.
I don't see why it wouldn't be an option? Can't confirm but you may have missed it or something.
I checked again. It's definitely not an option for mutliplayer. Any way I can rectify this at all?
I don't know why, but I love the little art for the icons for an unit, civ leader, etc.
I honestly think the Mayans are my new favorite civ. While I do miss the Walls of Babylon, and the Atlatlist is useless, it's a civ that really suits my playstyle and the benefits seem to outlive those I get while playing Babylon. (I may just be bad at Babylon though)
Whenever I play Civ5 my focus always naturally becomes research so every game seems to pan out in exactly the same way: I'm much more advanced than everyone else is so I spend few turns making a tiny, advanced army, take a couple of the highest ranking AI's capitals to half their scores and stop them from being a threat, and carry on. Even when I explicitly try to do something else, I always slide naturally into doing this and it gets quite boring. Any ideas to encourage me to give up the habit? I just find everything is so much easier when I'm an era or two ahead of everyone else.
I entered the modern era in my game, after finally maintaining a stable peace with china. I start focusing all my remaining military resources on other tasks, when suddenly nothing less than the entire fucking modern world declares war on china. WELP. Man the guns!
[t]http://i46.tinypic.com/29272ux.jpg[/t] This is what happens when a buddy and I play this game.
what's the best civ for cultural win i always go for utopia anyway
I would arguably say Napoleon if you're going to expand into a large empire, or the siamese empire if you can find some cultural/maritime city-states.
Can someone give me a guide to advancing science as quickly as possible. I understand the basic idea but I always get bogged down in initial unit creation and early research. If someone could tell me how to play my first couple of moves I think I could keep it rolling.
Can someone give me a guide to advancing science as quickly as possible. I understand the basic idea but I always get bogged down in initial unit creation and early research. If someone could tell me how to play my first couple of moves I think I could keep it rolling.
How I always roll: First build a scout, then a monument, then a shrine if you're going for religion or a worker if you aren't. Especially if you go liberty and get a free worker, you can build a shrine or granary, whatever you prefer. First rush pottery, then writing. research something that lets you use those resources and luxuries around your capital. Mining is useful because the production will be needed for... The great library. While you're building that (put everything on production), research calendar. When the great library is done, bulb philosophy and instantly build a national college if all goes well, the NC will be done by the time you get your settler from the liberty tree. Rushbuy one to make up for the lost time in the early game if you want or if you picked tradition/honour. Remember that the tradition policy that gives production on wonders, the pantheon monument to the gods and the liberty +1 production when making buildings will help with this. When you've done all this, you'll have a tiny army and backwards capital buildings-wise, but you'll tech almost anything in 2 turns. Enjoy your caravels in 900 AD! Keep your advantage by always teching science stuff once you can. you'll be unstoppable, because your tiny early game army will probably outtech anything. Only money and buildings will be a bit of a problem, but you can recover that any way.
so while i was playing, my 9 year old cousin comes in and see me trading with russia, he says "why are you talking to boobies mcforehead" and i couldn't stop laughing for some reason idk i thought it was funny :V
After some failed trying, I've learned that I can only enjoy Civ 5 only in strategic/tactical view. Ain't that some shit?
strategic view is hard for me to use, i don't know if i'm used to normal or i just cant read the symbols easily, but it's so much harder to understand imo
strategic view is hard for me to use, i don't know if i'm used to normal or i just cant read the symbols easily, but it's so much harder to understand imo
I play a lot of Dwarf Fortress. I pickup on symbols fast.
Babylon for the Liberty/Order policy trees, and Korea for the Tradition/Freedom policy trees.
What's the bonus for those ? is there a poor man's alternative ? Because i don't have the DLC except for gods and kings.
Whats the best mod for Civ IV? I have all the expansions.
What's the bonus for those ? is there a poor man's alternative ? Because i don't have the DLC except for gods and kings.
Babylon gives you a free great scientist when you discover writing, and doubles their birth rate. This can be useful if you want more cities with light populations, thus it works best for Liberty/Order. Korea gives you science from specialists working in your cities. This can be useful if you intend on keeping your cities small in numbers, but dense, thus it works best with Tradition/Freedom. Other than that, there are no other Science-focused Civilizations. So I suggest buying a DLC for the Civilization you find more acquainting to your tastes.
Whats the best mod for Civ IV? I have all the expansions.
Rhye's and fall of civilization is my all-time best for CIV, really good or anyone who likes history and wants their CIV game to be more historically oriented. If you want a more blend of vanilla civ with it's randomness and extremely high replayability, try RFCRAND, which keeps all those cool futures from RFC like historical victories, independent cities, stability, unique powers, oldworld/newworld, and gradual civ spawns over time instead of everyone spawning at the first turn. Also it's cool how ciV's independent cities and unique powers features were inspired from RFC.
History In The Making for Beyond the Sword was a great mod. It just added unto the base but it didn't feel like a kitchen sink.
spawning in north america is like the best thing ever you get so much of an advantage
spawning in north america is like the best thing ever you get so much of an advantage
There are 3 natural wonders two tiles away from each other and you can easily use the panama canal to block whatever south american civ is there, being spain just got that much easier.
