There are 3 natural wonders two tiles away from each other and you can easily use the panama canal to block whatever south american civ is there, being spain just got that much easier.
I have a huge mountain range blocking the panama canal, which is pretty fucking useful
I should really reinstall the game and start playing on the Earth map. Whenever I do random continets, I always end up spawning in jungles. I mean like every game.
Every.
Game.
So many memories!

am I the only one who turns off city states? I find them pretty annoying and I don't see the benefit for some reason

Well if you actually invest enough to get a few on your side, they actually are VERY helpful. Unless youre doing a globalization win, its best to choose city states that have something that aids your victory (culture for culture win, etc).
Civs like austria and alexander make them incredibly useful.
they have benefits, it's very clear they do, but i agree, they are annoying. i wish they acted more like small nations, made 2 to 3 cities at MAX, would fill the world much better I think

maritime city-states are pretty much useless imo, though I don't mind the other traits
Every time I download R.E.D. mod pack when I got to the mods list it will say installing mods, but then nothing will show up. Anyone know how to fix this?

Unsubscribe, delete the mod in civ V, quit the game, start game again, go to mods fodler, re-subscribe to RED modpack and let it install. That fixed it for me. (Also make sure you have the latest patch for civ V)

They can be very powerful with civs who's got plenty of cities imagine if you ally 2 maritime city-states, that's 2 food in each city and 6 in the capital, basically a free citizen in every city and 3 free citizens in the capital, with over 10 cities this can be very powerful.

Tried this multiple times and still no dice.
was playing a game with 22 civs and on a huge (modded) world map

This happened to me as well. ~20 civs (a couple got wiped), ALL the city states and that massive earth map. All in the modern age as well.
It was already taking about 30 seconds for the great european empire of france of process in the bloody fog, but then the australian barbarians...
I was gonna post a screenshot of the barbies (huehuehue), but civ crashed for the first time ever as I ended the turn.

Try this.
Already tried everything on that list that is relevant.
Fucking shit, was doing one city challenge with gandhi, deity difficulty and culture victory. I have been in war with Japan for the whole game and barely managed to sustain long enough. His armies were way bigger and a lot more tehnically advanced. So the year was 2000, I was building the utopia project hoping that I will win the game.
3-4 turns left until utopia project is finished and Japan wins by space victory

goddamn I hate gandhi so much
when I decide to destroy just one city-state because they've been annoying the shit out of me, everyone denounces me and I'm the bad guy
but when gandhi demands I give him cows and I say no, he goes apeshit and sends his 30 war elephants to my borders, and he gets no repercussions
motherfucking gandhi
God damnit it's 8am
Babylon gives you a free great scientist when you discover writing, and doubles their birth rate.
This can be useful if you want more cities with light populations, thus it works best for Liberty/Order.
Korea gives you science from specialists working in your cities.
This can be useful if you intend on keeping your cities small in numbers, but dense, thus it works best with Tradition/Freedom.
Other than that, there are no other Science-focused Civilizations.
So I suggest buying a DLC for the Civilization you find more acquainting to your tastes.
The Mayans are an excellent Civ for Science and I strongly recommend them - personally, I prefer them over Babylon.
The Pyramid unique building gives excellent early-game science bonuses, and you'll naturally be targeting more science-y techs if you try to get The Long Count running early (as you should early game). Use your first Long Count great person on a scientist, and you're rolling far ahead. Then, later, you get occasional Long Count bonuses which always seem to come for me when I most need them, allowing you to provide a boost to any aspect of your play intermittently throughout the game.
They may not be as science-focused, but played right they come close, and the all-round bonuses outweigh the difference in early-game science.
whens the next sale for this game
i want to buy it but i want it for a bargain
Its 15 on GamingDragons.com shame you have 65 in your steam wallet owned
playing civ 4 as Jewish Vikings, how awesome is't that?

Circumcision via battle axe
So now that Intel payed fraxis to optimize civ 5 to be more ultrabook friendly how does this game play on HD 4000 graphics
So I just won my first game. Cultural victory as Carthage. I could have won via domination (I had wiped out half the civilizations in the game), but I really didn't want to start a long war with China and Britain.
