Cultural victories shouldn't be super easy on deity, care to elaborate on this
the only reason why I find cultural victories super-easy is because of pure luck (pretty much the only way you can really get a cultural one). I almost always spawn in my own continent, or if I'm playing an Earth map, I usually spawn in North America. otherwise, domination is the way to go
So I was chilling in modern-day China as Japan, and France is is inhabiting the 'stans to the west, with the Russians below me. Napoleon declares war on me (since I was acquiring tons of gold and science and only had one military unit), and I begin a fight against them. I have plenty of gold to buy scientifically superior units. Suddenly, I declare war on Russia. Turns out that the Romans wanted me to fight the Russians and because I was going to be friends with them, I accepted the offer. Now, I have a war on two fronts!
Nothing beats declaring war on a nation simply as a show of good faith to an ally, never firing a shot, and being offered tons of shit to make peace.
I can't stand cheating AI. I dream of a day where AI can be tough to beat without cheating.

That's why I'm starting to get bored/dislike games with AI It's too damn predictable most of the time. I like having at least one opponent who can think, plan, and strategize, and I can have pleasure in defeating.
Gentlemen, let me introduce you to Galactic Civilizations II, where on the "normal" difficulty level, the AI intentionally has to make mistakes to make it fair, and on the very hardest difficulty level, simply minmaxes like a bitch (without ever breaking limits that are imposed on the human player!)
Nothing beats declaring war on a nation simply as a show of good faith to an ally, never firing a shot, and being offered tons of shit to make peace.
Sad thing is that I forgot they were right below me.
I can never finish games, I always get bored of them by the time I reach the musket era.
I can never finish games, I always get bored of them by the time I reach the musket era.
Same here, I always get bored of peace but war is so slow (especially capturing cities) that i just can't get into it.
War is great when you're defending, but moving armies to assault cities is so damn boring.
Same here, I always get bored of peace but war is so slow (especially capturing cities) that i just can't get into it.
It's even worse when you forget you need a melee unit to capture cities so you just stand there with your ranged army waiting for that one unit to be created and walk over there, and then it gets killed instantly.
how do you forget to have melee unit? how are you assaulting cities without a force to back up the artillery?
how do you forget to have melee unit? how are you assaulting cities without a force to back up the artillery?
Probably composite bows early game. Comp bowmen are rediculously good for the time that they're available, a good army of them can knock out a lot of stuff. They should still be thickened out with one or two melee units, though. Horse archers are also really really powrful, but require horses, and you can often do better by selling the horses to the AI at that point in game. I've not played much since the last patch, though, and I've heard that AIs often don't keep as much of a gold reserve now.
I can never finish games, I always get bored of them by the time I reach the musket era.
Same, I just don't like how "small" the world feels once you have things like Aircraft.
I just realized Gods and Kings has it's own cinematic.
Same, I just don't like how "small" the world feels once you have things like Aircraft.
Yeah, half the game for me is picking out the best places for cities and planning everything out.
Yeah, half the game for me is picking out the best places for cities and planning everything out.
Same, I think I need to cut back on that though, because I've just been ridiculously impatient lately.
I managed to string together 3 Golden Ages through a mixture of happiness, great artists, and great artists purchased with religious points. Would have had four, although my game crashed. I think It has something to do with when I enter the diplomacy screen with leaders. I'm going to try a re-install sometime tomorrow. Hopefully that'll fix things because this is one of the first games I've actually enjoyed playing and stuck with.
I just had a really odd match. Gandhi's capital was on a tile right next to my capital, and my country's territory surrounded him, making him a city-state enclave.
reinstalling civ v time to romp through the world as the UK again

At one point I had like over 40 turns of golden age just by burning great people that I didn't need.
Same, I just don't like how "small" the world feels once you have things like Aircraft.
I absolutely love the early game, because of exploration and such, but they should really flesh out late game more, because there's really not much to do in the Modern, and barely anything in the Information.
Yeah that's one thing I think that's infamous about this game, late game gets insanely boring/not worth it to finish, with 175 hours, I have YET to finish a game, let alone win one.
Strange, I've won a lot of games. But then again, I play with a lot of mods that keep it fresh.
Strange, I've won a lot of games. Welp, Catherine beat me to a Science victory by one part. That stings a little.
okay no, that's all, guess I'm more patient then lol :v:
its not about patience, it's just by the time i get to late game, ON ANY DIFFICULTY, im always like 1000+ points ahead of everyone, and its just fucking annoying
its not about patience, it's just by the time i get to late game, ON ANY DIFFICULTY, im always like 1000+ points ahead of everyone, and its just fucking annoying
try playing with the revolutions mod. Makes keeping colonies/conquered provinces a lot harder.
So, I've decided to continue my Japan game simply to see where things go, and I've never really played the game that far into the future. Here's a run down of my game so far: Russia is the most powerful Civ, having won the game via a tech victory. They control the majority of the eastern continent, aside from two Indian cities which they spared. On the western continent, there's myself, Sweden, and the last city of the Iroquois. Sweden and I have had excellent relations over the course of the game, and despite them owning the majority of the continent they've never once shown any hostilities. I control 5 cities, 2 of which I took from the Iroquois generations earlier. El Dorado makes for a nice tourist location. Finally, there is Onodaga, the last Iroquois city. The Iroquois initially controlled a good chunk of the western continent before a war with Sweden and myself reduced them down to a single city. At this point they mostly just make attempts to remain allies or friends with city states, while building up a small army of industiral era units to defend their city. India has been reduced down to two cities after holding out against Russia for what seemed like 200 years. They maintain those last two cities mostly because I assume the Russian AI sees they have no real use (been playing on Random AI, although for the most part they seemed to have followed the same patterns as their non-random counter parts). [t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/577853610420144637/CA9418BF0417D247455D66D1FEEBB387018BF2A8/[/t] As for the political scene, Russia has become hostile towards me because of a failed attempt at spying on them, along with my alliance with Sweden. They've made a few threats, but never really gone through with them on account of my Defense Pact with Sweden. At the present time, Sweden (who is having serious issues with their economy) has sent a small army to attack the remaining two Indian territories. Russia has been contended to conquer the last few city states surrounding it, and I've been finishing off my tech tree, building a set few buildings, and attempting to ally city states with Aluminum and Uranium, two things which are seriously lacking in my territory along with oil. At the current rate, it seems like a conflict is inevitable. In all likelihood it'll be between Me and Sweden against Russia and their massive tracts of land, unless Sweden suddenly decides to betray me, at which point it'll turn into a three way war between Russia, Sweden, and myself.
Is there even any advantage of razing cities as opposed to puppeting/occupying them? Another question, do occupied cities ever cease to have the occupied status?
