Playing a medium sized Polynesian merchant empire based in South America. For the most part I've done my usual bit of remaining mysterious and neutral while supplying the warring nations of the world enough wine and incense to mellow out the ocean during a hurricane. Also, despite not really attempting to do so I've become one of the leaders in technological discovery, partially due to my fairly uniform amount of universities and surrounding jungles. At some point, I decided to allow Embassies to be established in my capital because I figured I should at least start to have decent relations before they inevitably discovered my little continent paradise. It was pretty good until I literally started loosing techs left right and center despite having both a constabulary and a Spy, whose managed to let at least 5 or so techs slip away. Apparently Inspector Clouseau wasn't actually french or a police officer; he was just a Polynesian Spy who can't get his shit together.
Thats what you get for trusting an inspector named Clouseau. Fire him or try to get him killed. His replacement would probably be better.
To be fair, his name is technically something else, but Clouseau fits him way way better. Shame you can't really rename spys. Also the tech stealing has more or less stopped (or at least slowed down) now that I'm at war with Arabia. I think they're too busy ineffectually throwing units at Bucharest (which is located where Mexico would be) while my three frigates bombard anything that managed to make it onto land.
What I actually think Civ 5 needs are some kind of rare random events, for example: You have a nuclear power plant in your city and through accident some radiation leaks out, contaminating one field next to the city or two which you can clean up or leave it if you don't feel like fixing it.
Natural disasters would be interesting.
And if one happened to your enemy during war, the AI would become way more lenient to peace talks if you promised to help them repair.

legitimate question; Has anybody ever actually encountered these infamous "rebels" that you're supposed to get if you hit below 30 Happiness? I've never gotten them before, and I've only seen them like, in one video online.

I had to fight off barbarian Giant Death Robots once...

They're really just an annoyance.

I just had the option to get a great person, so I chose a great general. 5 turns later, I spawned another one.
So I'm playing a fairly quick game - about 220 turns in, Napoleon's borders start to rub up against mine but considering he offered me a shitload of open borders and research agreements, I figured we could just live with it. Then, out of fucking nowhere, he just announces that he's declaring war on me as if I were a threat and he starts to throw all kinds of units towards my territory. He tries going for Rome so I throw about 15 military units on to the borders and actually tilt the balance to push in to his territory, and then he cries for the end of the war, begging for the end and offers me a shitload of gold per turn and resources, so I'm like 'yeah sure'. tl;dr napoleon starts up shit, I reverse it, he now sucks my dick for everything and compliments my military

Me and my friends were playing a game last night, I decided to play good old Napoleon and go cultural. I own like 85% of the wonders that have been made in the entire game, haha. My city is such a clusterfuck, I think notre dame just grew up right out of the middle of Stonehenge

I had gotten gunpowder a good bit before anyone else and was relying on my technological superiority far more than numbers to win battles. Rebel musket men and pike men just started to spawn faster than I could handle and I ended up quitting because they were over running my land. I have since learned my lesson about expanding too quickly through war.
God DAMN romans u are mega-drunk. I play as Alexander,my puppet states(on same team) are Russia,India and the Roman Empire. The romans keep attempting to destroy the Iroquois. I get war messages every turn

So what is going on... Subscribed to a couple of Mods on Workshop, go ingame and to mods to activate them. Click on next once they're all installed and the game tells me they're activated. Then I go ingame and none of them is active, neither on a loaded game nor on a new game.
I cant be the only one that laughs like a maniac whenever one of my infantrymen shoots down a bomber.
fuck you montezuma you gym monkey faggot denouncing me just because I murderously invaded brussels, geneva and france geez

oh god I just pulled a fucking hilarious stunt in multiplayer. espionage if fucking incredible when playing against real people. So it was industrial era, and I was building up my empire on the basis of technological superiority. I had research industrialism 12 turns prior, and my partner just got it now. I have a spy in his capital and notice he is building big ben. I wait until he has 5 turns left and I ask him how things are going. He doesn't mention building big ben so I say "Yeah I'm getting big ben in a few turns it should make things a lot easier down the line. You?" at which points he flips out and says he's only a few turns behind. I tell him that I'd be willing to stop production for 800 gp, on the claim that it was in one of my lesser cities and it was more of a side project. He accepts, I get free money, and he's none the wiser. Goddammit I love this game

multiplayer diplomacy is straddling the fine balance between well-reasoned negotiator and devious trickster
