Patch Notes:
1.0.0.17
Released 9/23/2010
Special character fix for Windows usernames: Users with non-english characters in their windows username would experience a game crash. This has been fixed, and a forthcoming fix will address an issue related to this where game victories are not recorded in the Hall of Fame.
Default resolution fix for DX9: Some users who have non-standard or below the minimum specification resolutions crashed before starting. Now, the system will change to Windowed mode and start so it does not crash.
AI city weighting: AI will not quite as freely offer up their cities when asking for peace.
Gold per turn glitch: When agreeing to a deal for anything above 5 gold per turn in exchange for something else (like a luxury), the deal would always only pay 5 gold per turn, regardless of the amount proposed. This has been corrected.
They have confirmed that they are working on an update that focuses on the multiplayer aspects of the game.

fuck
Napoleon is a hardcore motherfucker. I didn't discover the second continent until about 1600AD, and he had conquered the entire thing. Now its 2 complete continent empires against eachother. This will be tough, as his armies seem to be endless. I have 10 armies, but my advisor still says his military could wipe me off the planet.

I managed to capture a city-state just on his coast. It's perfect, as it only has a 1 tile path leading to it, and is surrounded by mountains and ocean. The 1 tile leading to the city is also a hill, so they can't really use artillery on my city without getting too close. On the plains a bit further out from my city, i also built a citadel. This is totally going to end up as 300.

The area is just perfect for defenders. I think i made a mistake by leaving the citadel to attack their city though.
Im so incredibly bored of the opening cinematic... Even when I change the options in user pref, It just stays black when opening :ohdear:
god damnit dad stop playing civ 5

You can't skip while it's loading. My intro barely gets to play a few seconds before it allows me to skip.
This game is great, but the lack of skippable cinematic and the shitty multiplayer issues are making it bad :S
Oh god I just experianced time-warp at it's best. I was Rome on a large-Earth map. I started in the Mid-West United States and began building. I expanded all around me to find no other civs in North America, and a mountain range blocking me from South America.
After centuries of development we unlock deep sea sailing. I make a ship and go east to Europe. Gandhi has an 1880's era army and has literally taken over everything from England to China, Russia to Australia. I make a tiny-ass colony on his shore, eventually getting betrayed and conquered.
But goddamn, I didn't even have gunpowder yet. Fucking Gandhi and his passive resistance magic.
Wasn't Gandhi also a backstabber in the other Civilization games?
the DX 10 option is working in Civ now, but its so unstable. I crashed at the Graphics options menu. I finally got into a game, I zoomed out and it crashed. I was having no FPS problems. It was running fine.
I've been fighting with Barbarians in one Area for 100s of years... no idea where they're coming from. It's like mordor, a circle of mountains with a big plain in the middle, only 2 entrances.
So I had a little nation on small sized earth map, everyone left me alone and I built up my technology, I reached future era before anyone else and build the SS so I won the space victory, then started building and army, first a wiped out Sinapore then Venice, right now m head to head withthe Iriquios who are also fighting th chinese, who actually started in Asia.

I also just now decided to discover NA
I'm getting sick of hearing the word glorious...
Ghandi just declared war on me.
On turn 3.
What.

I had almost exactly the same experience in my last game. (Yes, the same one I was talking about 2 pages ago)
After Montezuma and I (ok, let's be honest, it was only me) wiped out Rome, I took out Montezuma, and the 3 states on my continent (Incidentally, by the 3rd state war, they ALL were at Permanent War with me)
Kinda fucked up on the 3rd state war though, I started it when they were at riflemen when I had a lower tech army, Minutemen. Didn't matter too much, couple hundred gold later fixed that issue
Then I finally find another continent, and it's just PURE russian.
I sent all of my riflemen over to a small area of land in the north, and a settler.
Researched nukes, DROPPED DA FUCKING BOMB on the rusky and just waltz right in.

Wait, what?
That pacifist declared war on turn 3? Kick his ass!
Do these retards ever learn? So Arisaka starts threatening me and telling me my civ is shit, so I invade him and kill him. Then Alexander starts doing the same, so I invade and take 2 of his cities before he pleads me to make peace. Then Ramses start demanding shit from me, at which point I already was a few hundred years more progressed than anyone else, so I kick his ass and take 4 of his cities before making peace.
Now Alexander starts talking shit about me again (eve though I could easily crush him), and everyone except for Bismark (who seems to be the only reasonable guy, as he is the most powerful behind me, who likes me) hates me, calling me "The Bloodthirsty" and stuff.

He may looks friendly and frail, but he'll kick your ass and before you know it he'll be launching barrages of nukes on your cities.

Holy fuck i need this game :v:
I just had a game where I was allies with the Romans, but they started picking on the city states, so the next time he declared war on Geneva, I gave it two crossbow units, a cannon and a warship. His army was heavily damaged, so I just walked in after and cleaned up. Luckily for me, unit donation is done in secret, so he had no idea who it was, until it was too late. I also enjoy bribing other civs to all go to war with each other. When you have 10000 in 1000AD, you soon find a civ's price point. On the largest map, it took about 8 hours to find all the civilizations.
Bah, up to 250 turns, managed to conquer one race who started war with me, things were looking good. Then for no reason, egypt and soon after the arabs declared war on me...there's no way I could defend against 2 armies...fucked me over. :(
That bastard Napoleon didn't expect me to win the UN vote, bwahaha! He could easily have crushed me, but the world loves me. The pen is indeed mightier than the sword.
I am loving this game so far
I always find it funny when some one goes to war with me I hold them off for ten turns then they give me lots of stuff and ask for a peace treaty.
In my current game the continent is split in half between the french and the English (I am the french) it's been 50 turns now since a peace treaty was signed and after barley holding on I have built a mass army across the border of my empire.
Only to discover the azetcs are the one swiping out the civilizations elsewhere AND THEY ARE ON THE UNDEFENDED SEA LINE ¬¬
Still I love it all.
Wow Earth map was bigger than i thought.
And starting as Russia in Canadian tundra isn't the easiest place.
But still i am now conquering south america from the Greeks.
Okay guys please say so if you're playing on the easier difficulties because you're making the game seem easier than it is.

South America is a bitch to conquer because of those god damn mountains.

Well i play at chieftain difficulty so no wonder i am going so well.
And yea its pretty difficulty to conquer even more so if you come through the middle american land bridge. But it just made the game x100 more interesting because i had to combine tactics to win.

haahha
"it's like mordor"
To anyone whinging about the opening cinematic, it's a loading screen you retards. Something to look at while the game loads.
Just keep pressing escape and it'll skip when the game is loaded properly.
Has anyone started modding Civ5 yet? The lua stuff seems interesting.

Much better then a fucking bar or looking at who made the game.
