Much better then a fucking bar or looking at who made the game.
I'd rather have a quiet loading screen with a bar that tells me when it's done loading instead of the same cinematic over and over again, like some commercial or something.
To anyone whinging about the opening cinematic, it's a loading screen you retards. Something to look at while the game loads.
Just keep pressing escape and it'll skip when the game is loaded properly.
We've come to terms with it being a loading screen, just the fucken thing never plays properly for me.
Has anyone started modding Civ5 yet? The lua stuff seems interesting.
There's an ingame mod browser (look in mods/browse/online tab), a couple good ones in there, like one to put the civs in their real locations on Earth maps.
Plus the DDE dlc can only be played as a mod :/

The only reason that it bothers me is because for me the game loads right after the ads, so I get the 3-5 ads every time I start up the game. I don't know about you but ads ain't my thing, and I'd rather have a black screen, or the actual cinematic playing.
Also, catapults (or the later age equivalent) are awesome. I've been steamrolling the entire continent with three medic spearmen, and two catapults behind them.

Care to go against my wehrmacht?
Tried out the demo last night. I didn't really enjoy it at all...
Bought this yesterday, I'm currently on turn 300 in the Medieval Age with + +98GP/T as Germany. I have about 7 cities.

Anything specific you didn't like? Or just not your thing in general

Turn 300 in the Medieval Age?
What speed you playing on
My dad got this before me and he loves it. It looks so awesome. :saddowns:
But I might get it today.
I'd rather have a static loading screen, not a movie.

How 'bout a loading bar at the bottom of the screen while the movie plays?
You can disable it by going into My Documents >My games >Civilization V and open usersettings file, find the line that says "SkipIntroVideo = 0" and change the 0 to 1.

Longest possible, on the easiest difficulty because I wanted to build a fucking giant empire of wealth and prosperity. I'm also new to the game so I don't wanna attempt this and then get blown up twenty different times.
Okay guys please say so if you're playing on the easier difficulties because you're making the game seem easier than it is.

South America is a bitch to conquer because of those god damn mountains.
Prince (normal) difficulty.
Maybe playing archipelago isn't such a good idea. At least for those city states. Meanwhile my Royal Navy is doing fantastic.
This game seems unstable, is it a bad game to play a full earth game with max amount of players? I played a small continent game from start to finish for like 7 hours with no performance issues, now I've started a full earth game and I've already crashed twice withing the first 40 turns.
Maybe I should set the difficulty higher than Chieftain, I'm steamrolling everything without hinders.
Also after like 300 turns the AI takes ages to do their stuff, waiting 20 seconds for each turn gets irritating real fast.
Yeah is there any way to speed up turn times? On marathon it takes like, 100 turns to make a scout and a worker at the start of the game, but each turn takes like, 15-20 seconds.

I'd put that to two factors:
1: You can see more of the map at that stage, so the game thinks it has to show you everything that's going on, instead of just your little corner of the world
2: The enemy has more units, which leads to #1

Are you using DX9? Apparently a lot of people are having problems with it.
I'm using DX10 and haven't crashed once in a full earth game in 9 hours.

It felt like a really high quality game, but I guess that I don't like the whole 'Turned based Strategy' aspect

I can't do DX10, it says Service Pack 2 required. And I have no performance issues whatsoever it just randomly crashes.
Might get it, but I'll probably just get Civ 4 to be on the safe side. Don't want my graphics card to blow up.
Long turns really put you off finishing a game but I still want to play :(

There's a demo available on steam, give it a go, and just keep track of your system temperature
Love when it chooses random city hex's to build wonders in. The pyramids are now out at sea.
At times it can actually look cool, like an underwater city. It kinda just makes it a bigger monument.

Yeah but it's also that there is so much more stuff to be processed (calculating orders for automated worker, calculating loads of variables, calculating AI decisions and moves for each unit/city/entity and so on), so the CPU has loads to work with too. Would be great if you could have the screen go black when you finish the turn to speed it up, or even better making use of the GPU to help the CPU calculate (but GPGPU computing is a bit far-fetches, still someone must be the first one, why not Firaxis?).

Found it on TV Tropes, couldn't get it in a bigger size.
Is the 'expanding your cities' (or whatever it's called) tutorial bugged?
One of the objectives is to connect two cities to your capital using roads, so I did that, but it didn't say that I completed the objective.

Did you build a palace in one of your cities?
I did notice there's no actual capital defined in that tutorial
