Are nukes truly devastating in this?
Nukes are never devastating in civ games. Although I have taken to habit arming rogue, warlike city states with nuclear bombs. Its fun to watch the AI empires declare war on them then get expectantly nuked.
My experience with nukes so far is that they end a war in one shot, because all the AI leaders I use them on immediately want peace.
They always want peace. ALWAYS.
They always want peace. ALWAYS.
Take them for all they got, then in 10 turns, crush their final city
They always want peace. ALWAYS.
I always love when I'm crushing someone and then they want peace and offer open borders, so I just take my treaty turns lining up my troops around their cities, and waiting for the peace to expire.
I was in war with Elizabeth, and she wanted peace 30 times before I finally destroyed her.
So I guess I'm the only one who really thinks the game is boring after about 1 hour of playing?
The first time I played Civ I remember claiming all the land on this country. I had settled on four different civilisations territory. They all kept on asking me to pay them money and I just 'fUcK nO'. After a while one of them just went 'I'm sick of your shit, you dirt Spaniards!' I thought they could never overcome my soldiers, and they didn't. Until all the other tribes I hadn't given any money too decided to fuck up my shit. It was one of the greatest gaming moments of my life. [editline]06:39AM[/editline] Holy shit eighty bucks!
So I guess I'm the only one who really thinks the game is boring after about 1 hour of playing?
yes you're the only one
So I guess I'm the only one who really thinks the game is boring after about 1 hour of playing?
Yep, 42 hours here, would be 50 if multiplayer wasn't fucked.
Is the fact that I laughed when you said 42 hours a bad thing. If I don't put 100 hours into a game I feel like I wasted the money. [editline]07:28AM[/editline] I'm downloading it now.
So I am coming to around 1500 in my first game of Civ 5, and let me just say that this game is near the most awesome thing I have ever played. I started as Britian, yet lack to have a proper navy yet (I lust unlocked the renaissance atack ship, so this shoulkd change). On the first continent there was myself, egypt, persia, india and russia. During my intitial exploration of the continent egypt kept cock-blocking me so I steam rolled them and annexed their two cities, which later became the base to future conflict in the desert area. I had noticed around this point that my mountain pass was too hilly to effectivly get units from London all the way to Egypt territory, so I settled York and built a Road there, buying up the land to make sure no one will get easy access to london (in case of me starting to lose a war, the mountains will be great at holding off the south - and anyway, persia is too the north). It was about this time I attacked the city-state Oslo, to clear the mountains of potential enemies, this really pissed of Russia. I moved my war machine south to Moscow and spent a long time capturing it, many of men now severly injured. Using my only boat I found that Russia not only had another territory to the south of Moscow, but also Around the corner from former egypt, in the mountains. Taking the southern territory would be impossible for around 5 turns due to heavy enemy, so I focused on this little mountain based enclosure. I moved archers and swordsmen in over very heavy terrain. Due to my stupidity my archers ended up in front of my swordmen meaning that the seige lasted a long time. While I was waiting for that city to fall I advanced towards Russia's last city with around 8 units of swordsmen and archers, swiftly ending Russia's exsistance in the game. I made this last city a puppet due to happiness concerns. Around this time the egyptian cities were happy and now could produce units, so I started gearing for War with india. India had around 2 spearmen and 1 unit of elephants. I took their southern provinces with relative ease and started to move my armies north, they got heavily delayed by rough terrain.
29 hours played in 3 days.

woo, a space victory. For those wanting to beat the space/culture victory, use advance settings. end in x turn x= 0 and start in the future era.
Does anyone remember that bug in Civ 2 were you could get stealth bombers before the birth of christ.
Russia kept making jokes about my empire, so I pillaged their towns. Also, god damn is that subtitle true, I just spent 8 hours playing a game.
[img_thumb]http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/7518/civ5.png[/img_thumb] Here you can see England, Ireland and Western Europe, and you can see the size of the world in the minimap. The game will probably slow to a grinding halt towards the end of such an epic game, though. The little blue settler unit in England indicate the size of a hex.
Why is Europe so devoid of rivers? I'm gonna guess balancing issues.
Global Warming
I long for the day when we get a proper Britain.
Damn I wish The World map was 1:1. Would be awesome :buddy:
I look forward to maps that focus more on smaller RL locations on earth, like the British Isle or North America.
310 BC. I (Rome) complete the Iron Working research on a Huge Marathon game. Egypt arrives with Riflemen outside my border. Egypt declares war. fml
Does anyone else suffer from some graphical artifacts? Every time I start a new game it seems to be getting more.

Does this game include Leonard Nimoy?
Does this game include Leonard Nimoy?
Nah, I'm not sure who's voice it is now, but look up the Civ5 intro movie, it's the old guy
I played the demo, Alexander the Great was constantly a pain in the ass so Bismarck, Caesar, and I were always fighting with him.
Another one bites the dust. Going as Japan, so far I've killed off Persia, India (both pushovers) and now Greece on my continent. Now only the Ottomans remain, and whoever's on the other continent.
