In what way? The series itself, the mechanics it uses or a disliking of the genre in general?
I never understood why people like this game
its normal for people to like stuff you dislike
I am hooked on CiV 5, I want to buy it so badly. I have to do that soon. Never really bothered to try the CiV games, always thought that combat would be dull. But hell, CiV 5's combat is great and tactical, not to mention that every other aspect is great too.
I'm using the True Starting Positions mod (Or whatever it's called) and playing as the Iroquois. Initially I thought the USA would be a problem, but they've just expanded away from me. Some time between Ancient and Classical the Aztecs started hinting at war with the USA but now it's been many many years and nothing is happening.
Is it normal for it to be so very slow for so long? It's about 200AD now if I remember correctly. USA has a huge army and the parts of Canada that might hold things of interest are swarming with barbarians... How do the AI build units so damned fast?
Why the gods did they remove the save button in multiplayer and cut out the combat animations ?!

Eh, I don't know, I suppose it's the game. I like strategy games usually, but I find this one weird, complicated. I played civ4 and I really couldn't play it longer than an hour. I did the tutorial, or actually was still doing it, but there was so little to do or I just had no idea what I had to do.
Ive gotten pretty good at technological victory. :frown:
Am I missing something or is religion missing?
Am I missing something or is religion missing?
They removed it, I rather liked it :saddowns:
Religion's missing, instead there are those other things. Honour, etc
Can you still do city view? I don't see it.
Am I missing something or is religion missing?
Religion has been condensed into the Piety tree on the Social Policies menu.

so you're wondering why people like it when you don't like it for the fact that you can't figure it out, when people can figure it out and play it?
so you're wondering why people like it when you don't like it for the fact that you can't figure it out, when people can figure it out and play it?
you could say that
I said that maybe I didn't liked it because I didn't figure it out yet, maybe I did figure it out but I just didn't like it.
The game just updated for me on Steam.
Gandhi started acting up, and he was getting powerful, so I decided to deal with the fuck before he could get too far ahead. He started out with a more powerful military, but I'm ahead now.
One of his cities is nuked, and his military is pretty spread and half of it, if not more, is killed.
This is fun :D
Am I missing something or is religion missing?
Religion and Governance have been condensed into social policy.
good, i can use mods now.
The new update fixed them.
Noticed something playing as Britain, most of Britain's city names are southern cities
Confirmed Sid Meir is some kind of southern elitist
Not really, there are quite a few Northern ones like Nottingham and Newcastle, as well as Liverpool. That said I am planning to make North and South civs when the SDK comes out.
i hope there's glasgow
i'm waiting for mods to come out..can't be bothered to finish my current games cuz the turns just takes way too long..
Guys, mods are out.
The celtic civ mod kicks ass, get that, and the true start locations on earth thing.
Well fuck... i guess i suck at this game
Gandhi just asked me to declare war on the Persians, i said "well, Gandhi has a huge empire and shit so OK", on the next turns, Gandhi doesn't do shit and a huge Persian army made of musketeers pops out of nowhere on my capital... geez i didn't even discover the gunpowder yet, and i held his armies for 20 turns, the guy threw everything at me, i asked Gandhi for help again and he said "Good luck with that" I mean really ? what the fuck, that old backstabbing bitch.
So how am i supposed to develop tech quickly on this ? by building a lot of cities ? because that the only strategy the AI adopts and yet it succeeds even with culture.
Start on settler, duel or tiny, quick. , fuzz.
How do you install mods? I downloaded the 'True Start Location' mod and after like 2 seconds it just said 'Complete' in green letters but there was nothing else I could do.
How do you make mods?
wow lol ..I'm guessing he won?
It's not certain yet. I was extremely close to being completely wiped out though. In 1750AD, every nation in the world declared war on me, besides the russians which had oddly enough stayed loyal to me ever since i thwarted their original invasion. At this point, the Ottomans had riflemen, but i only had musketmen. It caught me offguard. My empire got attacked from ALL directions, so defense was impossible. I could hold off the lesser civs for a while, but the Ottoman hordes crushed everything in their path, and between 1750 - 1850, i had lost all my 19 cities. 17 of which were conquered by the Ottomans.
He didn't realize for the next 100 years though, that a single settler had escaped armageddon, and travelled to a completely unexplored continent! It had ancient ruins and everything! Just a few turns before losing my last city on the mainland, i managed to set up a colony. By 1950 it had already expanded to 8 cities, all cranking out massive amounts of science. I may still be able to win a science victory, or diplomatic victory if i play my cards right. My good russian friends have been supplying me with enough gold to still challenge the Ottoman empire. I am the only civilization capable of still defeating them, so the other civs have turned to me with all their gold.
On the subject of AI, i really wish they would have realized the consequences of going to war with me. They should have realized helping the Ottomans conquer me would have ended up as an extremely bad situation for them, but they didn't care.
