I've never played a Civilization game before, really the only RTS I've played is Company of Heroes and a bit of Starcraft. Is this a game I should try anyways? Or would it require a veteran RTSer's mindset?
It's not an RTS.
Ah yeah, I wasn't aware there was an individual term for this kind of game cos I haven't really played much of them before. I had a small bout of Rome:Total War when I was a bit younger but it seemed too complicated. Does this game require a turn-based-strategy-4x-thing veteran's mindset then?
I would be better if I had good strategy starting out, finding a perfect spot for the capital, and knowing in what order to build things and stuff.
Wow I finally got around to trying the demo and even though I hate strategy games this really grows on you, I can see why everyone always talks about how addicting it is. I think I'll buy it when it goes on sale.
As it turns out, Anarchy is still in the game. You just need to switch Social Policies between conflicting policies, like Liberty>Autocracy, or Piety>Rationalism. Gives 1 turn of Anarchy, with no Gold, Production, or Research for that turn

Does the game have an ingame hotkey viewer or customizable hotkeys? Also how do you check towns someone owns?
I only played one game so far but seriously this is addiciting as hell. I'm playing as the Japanese and I killed the Aztecs, Russia, India and Germany. There is still one country left which I haven't met and it's already 1650 AD. I have to travel to the America.
Finished my first game with a time victory. Played as Catherine and completely annihilated everyone except the Persians - a war that would have taken forever and would have been pointless since time was almost up. This game is great.
I love playing as the Japanese. The Bushido ability is absolutely fucking incredible, it keeps invasions from falling to nothing when your squads can still wreck shit with only 1-2 guys remaining. :v:
So there's no (normal) saving in Multiplayer? Also can you add bots in multiplayer?
So I was playing my third game as Russia. Just finished off conquering egypt with the highest peak of technology the LONG SWORDSMAN when suddenly Gandhi shows up off my coast with eight units of riflemen and declares war on me. Curse you Gandhi!
About British cities; they kind of make sense. Cities are generally in order of 'age' and southern ones would have been Roman or even pre-roman settlements. Northern ones would have been established later and in Scotland they would only become full towns/cities (As opposed to just Celtic villages) after the Romans had gone.
So, how is Civ5? Also, if I could play Civ4(BtS) on high settings, and Fallout 3 on medium, is Civ5 playable? Okay, how many people said "just, one, more, turn."
Where do you get mods?
In the mods interface, just click the 'online' tab.
The only way for this to be played is with a game speed of "quick."
Lol? Marathon ftw.
I like how Civilizations now actually try to piss you off, England decided to put a city almost smack dab in my future territory, I tell them to fuck off and they decline so I go to war and take their city then they give me gold for peace. Later Persia was pissed as well and told me to help fight England, I take their capital and leave their other cities alone. I love this game.

I've just started playing Civilization V 3 days ago. I have no idea what I'm doing (I've never played any Civilization games) and I'm not exactly too good at it, but GODDAMN I am so addicted. On Saturday I played from when I woke up to 4am in the morning. Something like 18 hours spent on a game that I don't even understand, in one sitting. This is definitely the most addicting game I've ever played. I love this game.
I was kicking Russia's ass, ready to take over everything, when suddenly they offered me a bunch of gold and luxuries in order for a peace treaty. I thought "okay, that's cool" and agreed. Still in possession of a fresh army, I decided to go attack my other neighbor. Wouldn't you know it. When the peace treaty ended Russia backstabs me and then basically I was fucked. I was now up against two countries with only half an army. Got raped from both sides.
I was playing on a continent with Japan then all of a sudden I notice a huge army near my borders so I start making my own and the Japan guy tood me "You are merely a stepping stone in my world domination" he started attacking me and took one city but in that time I had gathered a huge more advanced military and got that city back in one turn, crushed his army and taken another city then he declared peace offering loads of stuff and after the peace was over I took him out but now after exploring the world I find another continent and realize it's just me and Alexander so I'm starting to beat his ass but the sea is huge so it takes a while. And on a game before that I was beating Germany and for peace he offered me stuff including three cities! So after the peace ran out I simply had to remove two...then I notices America had oil and wiped out them but ended up wining from Scientific Victory.
Alexander looks like such a flaming faggot. Also Napoleon annoys me because he ALWAYS says 'exceptional' in that ridiculous French accent every time you trade or propose something.
Where can you change the end date? 2050 is too early. [editline]12:32PM[/editline] Nevermind, fixed it.

[editline]12:32PM[/editline] Nevermind, fixed it.
if you turn off time victory (I think) when you make a new game and no one has achieved a victory by 2050 the game will continue at 4 turns per year until someone wins [editline]02:25PM[/editline] i miss the dutch being a civilisation :(
This game is so addicting.
Is there something special between the Civilization V Nordic Edition and the Normal one only that there are some extra maps for it?
