Civilization V - Civ: causing all nighters since 1991

there is like, no iron on this island, i was lucky still to find 2 so i could upgrade 2 units to swordsman, but almost no one else had swordsman, so it was quite easy taking over alexander's capital, his other city will follow
and then the grumpy bismarck.
I seriously need that iron, i saw 1 other vein i think, but it also was only 2 iron... this is strange shit....
I've only ever played Civ IV. Is this worth getting? It looks fun and all but it looks almost identical to Civ IV except prettier, religionless, and with better combat (Thank god, I ALWAYS lost wars in Civ IV because the enemy would just mass 1,000 riflemen on one tile)
The new combat really changes how the whole game plays out. I think it's a worthy purchase. I definetly enjoy this more than IV.
just hoping mister terror, aka Ghandi, isn't one of the players i didn't met yet.

i didn't play civ4, but i still can see a HUGE difference in gameplay, just because of not-stackable units, it makes warfare a lot more strategic.
My only problem so far is that the mouse isn't constrained so 2 monitors makes it difficult to play. Although being turned based it isn't as huge as in an RTS.
This game is awesome, i spawned as Japan in south america with shitload of spice, owned siam pussies, now going for the russians with my good ol' samurai army.
Getting 1.2k research a turn is a great way of getting GDRs vs longswordmen
How do you do that.
Picked Germany, playing on prince difficulty, first Civ game ever. pretty peaceful, turn 250 hits, 4 declare war on me :ohdear: force Egypt and Persia to peace by attacking with riflemen.
:iia:
How do you do that.
Use the rationalism tree to get 2 science for each specialists and the 2 science per trading post (1 cause of a bug atm). Then build the science buildings in all of your cities that work a lot of trading posts. Get the policy that gives you 15% more research if you are happy as well.
If you got several armies in close vicinity fighting somewhere, bring him to them. He gives a great combat bonus. Otherwise, just use him for a golden age to speed up production and gold income.
Do they work if they're on the same tile, or can it also work if they're in an adjacent tile?
Why the fuck does everyone always gang up on me.. just lost a 400 turn game because Japan and the Arabs decided to attack me for the fuck of it.
So frustrating to waste all that time. I have a decent defense...just not when there's a million samurai charging at everything I have. Samurai seem to be better than any other unit....cannons don't do all that much damage, neither do city defense attacks...blah.. fucks me off.
I'm fine against another AI, they never bother with me all that much but as soon as there's 2 or more, they all fucking attack me. BLAAAARGH
Guess I have to wait for stronger boats before trying to take cities that only have 1 hex accessible by land huh?

I spent about 100 turns trying to take a city-state with the first war-boat you get, with about 20 of them :suicide:

you know you need infantry to take it fully?
[editline]11:21PM[/editline]
I don't understand why loads of people are complaining about this game. I played Civ IV a lot and I find this to be such a better experience. It's so much more streamlined, gameplay in Civ IV was such a mess compared to this, everything has been cleaned up.
Never go to war before the Medieval era or even Renaissance. It saps your economy so hard.
you know you need infantry to take it fully?
I was using infantry, but they were bad as well, and barely did anything.
Anyone win on deity? (Time victory is not counted)
I don't understand how can someone prefer the old civs over this, it's just a major improvement with minor problems and missing features.
Oh please, civ 4 is far superior to this. Maybe you can compare them once civ 5 gets two expansions, then MAYBE it has a chance.

It's ok to take control of some city states very early on, but you have to sacrifice turns that could be spent building workshops and what have you.

dohohohohoho
opinions
Wow, stayed up till 4am last night. I built my 3rd city at the north end of the island I was on, and mutherfuckin' russia (who was in the center and made a city very close to MY capital) bitched about it.
I said "lol oh well" pretty much. Next thing I know russia expands it's borders to completely cut that city off from my capital when I was going to build a road to it.
"FUCK THIS" says I!
I then proceed to mass longswordmen and trebuchets between our borders in preperation to attack russia with my capital city (which I've focused on production). Before they know what happens I attack russia and take their cities with relative ease thanks to my 2 trebuchet's (their cities were lightly defended, and they had massed only about 5-6 swordsmen around their capital). Next thing I know, I've captured their capital and their cities (a city state I was allied with captured the one near my capital sadly).
Bitch don't cut me off from boston.
PS: this game is awesome. I had Civ dreams last night :(
Was minding my own business as Japan, when suddenly
"The Indian Civilization has been destroyed!"
I hadn't met them yet, but this message was both a blessing and a curse.
This means someone was powerful enough to defeat Gandhi.

Well... opinions but the game definitely isn't shit, everyone can agree on that one.
It might be severely bugged for some people and with a shitty multiplayer with no animations, but the SP is very addicting and fun.
I have a pact of cooperation with Gandhi, is this fucker going to backstab me soon or what?
I used Japan, so no science bonus.
I have a pact of cooperation with Gandhi, is this fucker going to backstab me soon or what?
Just make sure to do what he asks. The diplomacy AI can be OK here, like if he wants you to engage in an act of secrecy against someone, make sure you don't make any deals with them. Or, if you refuse a lot of his research agreements or open borders or never help him in a war when he asks, then there isn't really cooperation going on, and he'll cancel it and hold a grudge.

Help him in a war ??! last time i did that, the fucker made peace with the other guy and i got fucking raped, alone.
So make sure you got a pretty big army for that, in case he backstabs you.
There's something else that works, gift the AI small amounts of gold.

The bonus has quite a large range. I havn't checked exactly how big an area, but big enough to easily support a handful of armies placed in a line.
Gandhi just ended the pact.
:ohdear:

If I'm not mistaken it's 2-tile wide. That is, what the general can move on a road-less flatland.
