Hopefully Firaxis won't do a bad job on patching the game and we get some good mods from dedicated players. The game will be awesome.
Leaving out religions and espionage and several actions is also a shame.
Not really. That shit was fucking annoying. "OH HEY, ONE OF YOUR CITIES ISN'T PURE CHRISTIAN SO WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO GIVE YOU A NEGATIVE STAT."
I just realized Civ V doesn't have very good multi-monitor support. I can use edge scroll to move right, I just end up moving my cursor to my right monitor...
I'm really glad they simplified the game in terms of religion, espionage, etc. ESPECIALLY glad they got rid of pollution. It's a lot simpler and I don't miss any of those things at all. Except religion, just a little, just because it added that tiny bit of personality to your empire which I especially like in MP games. My only problems have been really, really annoying framerate lag on my only game which, admittedly, is on a large, heavily populated map, and I don't really like the diplomacy. I don't like not being able to tell why the other rulers like or don't like me, and I don't like the lack of interaction with them. Other than simple trades and really obscure "Cooperation" and "Secrecy" pacts, there's just not that much to do. Even as the strongest empire on the map I can't get anyone to succumb to demands while surrounded by my army, so i'm not sure what the point of that little feature is. Also, I really dislike the horrible lack of any kind of uniqueness between resources. Getting a patch of Cotton makes my people as happy as finding GOLD? Really? Cotton should provide some small production bonus or happiness bonus, but gold should give a huge income boost along with happiness in at least your capital or something. I also really think resources should stack. Are they saying that having 3 bars of gold is no better than having one? It's really ridiculous. (On a side note, I do think they did the strategic resources really well, although they could afford to be a bit more sparse on standard settings. Does anyone really ever need 25 horses?) Apart from my complaining above though, I really, really like Civ V. Better than Civ IV, even, and I know it'll improve exponentially with expansions just like Civ IV. I love the new graphics, even if I can't really use them with my lag, and the new combat was so badly needed that i'm still excited about it here. It makes the game so much better.
How do I set up a trebuchet?
I have two continents and japan has almost completely taken over mine. They're being super aggresive but havent attack me yet. I kind of got screw with 2 cities that were 2 hexes away from my border, japan surround it.
Just started the my first game. 15 turns in and I find out I'm next to Gandhi :smithicide:
Is it a bad idea to set workers to do stuff automatically?
Is it a bad idea to set workers to do stuff automatically?
I'd only do it late in the game, but its not perfect. For instance, I had a city that was surrounded by farms and the fucking workers I set to automatic replaced the farms with trading posts and the city started starving. I honestly wouldn't reccomend it.
I'm thinking of getting this game. It's between this and DR2. Definitely a fan of the dead rising series, but this looks like a lot of fun.
get it before the people who say civ 4 is better come along
Civ IV was better.
Kickin' Iroquois ass!
Civ IV was better.
fuck I told you
I agree that diplomacy is really bad compared to the prequels. Leaving out religions and espionage and several actions is also a shame.
Actually diplomacy is better, and forget about espionage since that was added in the second expansion pack. In cIV you actually have to think for diplomacy which is very cool, you need to know who to make treatise with, who to cooperate with, who to shun, and who to attack and how many cities to capture, if you do something bad in diplomacy, it could have a dire effect on your whole game. I don't know about you but I'm still not used to the game's diplomacy and as a result in my last 2 games I was ganged up by 3 AIs. They didn't like how I exterminated their friendly neighbor, oh no, not at all. In CIV you would never see anything like that, just a "-1 you attacked our friend!" that would be easily offset by "+1 we've been in peace for a long time, +1 we like to trade resources, +1 open borders, +1 you picked my favorite civic 2000 years ago and I still remember it" and if you only needed a little more +'s you could just gift some stuff and there ya go, he's buddy for life! In cIV you have to stick by your agreements, no more backstabbing without consequences, if you backstab, the other AIs will take note of that and will act accordingly, this is a vast improvement for some and a disappointment for a few.
Not really. That shit was fucking annoying. "OH HEY, ONE OF YOUR CITIES ISN'T PURE CHRISTIAN SO WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO GIVE YOU A NEGATIVE STAT."
You know they only cared about your state religion right? You could be Buddhist with only one city with Buddhism and the rest filled with every other religion in the world and they would still like you for being a Buddhist. I agree about the luxurious resources thing, at least in CIV you had a few differences between say, wine and gold, in that, gold got even extra happiness through a forge, whereas wine got more health through the... damnit, forgot what it was called, that building which gave +25% commerce and game more health with a few specific resources, it was unlocked with guilds tech. This reminds me of something - they removed healthiness completely in ciV, quite a shame, really, now all those resources which previously gave health, like wheat, cows, sheep, and fish, just give a tiny bit of extra food, nothing special.
How do I set up a trebuchet?
Make sure it has a movement point available and there should be a command "set up", where attack usually is, shouldn't be hard to find out since it's where all the other commands are.
get it before the people who say civ 4 is better come along
Civ5 looks a lot better than 4. Why do people say that 4 was better?
There's a difference between looks and gameplay/quality/whatever...
There's a difference between looks and gameplay/quality/whatever...
I know, but you can get a good idea of how a game plays by looking at gameplay videos.
Why is this such a big deal? I got it and it feels almost exactly like Civ 2.
I know, but you can get a good idea of how a game plays by looking at gameplay videos.
Ah, I thought you just meant graphics when you said "looks". They do indeed look better because they focus on the combat which is the best feature of the game, but the other features - except the variety and uniqueness of civilizations and diplomacy, are pretty much inferior to CIV.
Civ5 looks a lot better than 4. Why do people say that 4 was better?
people like to cling onto games and call the newer ones shit it wasn't so bad the first time they did it, but the 50 next times were just annoying
people like to cling onto games and call the newer ones shit it wasn't so bad the first time they did it, but the 50 next times were just annoying
I just don't like the fact that Diplomacy seems a bit stiff now.
Civ IV wasn't exactly the best game ever when it was first released, either.
I guess I can post this here. Basically, I've taken to writing down everything that happens as a sort of history of my civilization. Of course I'm playing at marathon speed, what else speed is there? It's somewhere between 8 and 9 hours of playtime, over a few days Playing as China
??? BC - Chinese nation appears in South America. 3000 BC - China blockades southern mountain pass, trapping Rome in the south of the continent 2500 BC - Roman Settlers bypass blockade and found Antium 2300 BC - China declares war and attacks Antium, under the supervision of General Guderian. 2280 BC - Antium is taken 2230 BC - Rome surrenders and pays gold to China 2000 BC - China's military voted 2nd most powerful, under an undiscovered nation. 800 BC- 1300 years of peace between Rome and China, though relations are strained. Roman explorers bypass the Chinese blockade 870 BC - Chinese blockade is strengthened, Roman explorers trapped. 420 BC - China declares war on the Roman civilization. 360 BC - Rome begs for peace. 300 BC - General Guderian is ambushed by barbarians on his way to the battlefront, and is killed. 260 BC - Cumae is taken, Rome begs for peace. 150 BC - Rome is captured. 20 BC - Naepolis is captured, and the Roman civilization crumbles. 200 AD - Exploration of North America undertaken. 230 AD - Met the city state of Monacco. 250 AD - Chinese Empire voted most advanced nation in the world. 270 AD - Met the city state of Brussels. 300 AD - Met the city state of Rio De Janeiro. 430 AD - Meets the militarily superior Iroquois Native American nation. 590 AD - Great Wall of China built by someone other than China. 720 AD - China gives a gift of gold to the Iroquois nation. 755 AD - The great general Ivan the Terrible is born in China. He begins overseeing the destruction of local barbarians. 885 AD - Antium gets over itself and stops being unhappy about getting conquered. Yes, it took 3165 years. 1000 AD - Turn number 500. Mid 1400s - China's powerful economy paves the way for two Golden Ages, allowing China to create a stronger military than the Iroquois. Could this be the end of 1400 years of peace? 1460s - China begins exploring the seas, first sending ships to the west. 1486 through 1492- The Chinese empire is the first to meet the Geneva city state. The city state of Singapore is found amongst the barbarians of Australia. 1508 - The pitiful Russian Empire is discovered in Russia. St Petersburg is under siege and about to be taken by barbarians. 1514 - The great scientist Aristotle is born near Beijing. 1520 - The Ottoman Empire is met, as well as the city state of Stockholm. 1534 - The Songhai Empire and its strong military are met, and are the only threat to Chinese power. 1552 - Gunpowder is invented by China. 1554 - Russia requests war with Songhai. Declined. Egyptian Empire is discovered. 1556 - Egypt requests war with Songhai. Declined. 1580 - Songhai invites China to join them in conquering the Ottomans. Declined. 1580 through 1600 - China tries to get Egyptian, Russian, and Ottoman empires to declare war on Songhai. All refuse, likely out of fear of Songhai. 1600 - Songhai declares war on the Ottomans. Player realizes it's midnight.
The Diplomacy is simplified but looks really cool. The graphics are very nicely made. But the options two countries have are not that great. But the Research agreement are a nice addition.
I think the Iroquois are broken, my units don't use forest tiles like roads at all :V
I think the Iroquois are broken, my units don't use forest tiles like roads at all :V
I play as them and they are useful, just make sure your not travelling on any hills.
