I find myself accidently creating real historical Wars
Played a quick game of duel on settler to see how funny it is, ended with 20k+ gold, 150 happiness, 8/10 cultural trees filled, diplomatic victory, and all the space ship parts. Never fought an enemy unit besides barbarians.
This game is so hard and I'm only playing on prince difficulty. :saddowns:
Just bought the game, loved Civ 4, so I can't wait.
In the first expansion they really should improve diplomacy. There is nothing like an alliance (pact of cooperation isn't the same thing), no map trading and a lot more stuff is missing. Also the AI is way too random, they just suddenly get pissed at you, or ask random pacts/treaties then break them after a few turns.
wait, what, how did you get that big and have 15 happiness? I always run out of it
Well, when I know that war is inevitable. I let all my cities produce colosseums and theaters. You need them a lot.
7. Bring back the graphics of civ: As many players have noted since the game's release, civ's graphics is absolutely terrible. Rivers and trading posts are just plain ugly. It's just about on par with civ iii if you ask me.
PFFFFFFF!!!!! [editline]12:51PM[/editline]
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=385718 oh my god this person is an idiot and actually thinks most people agree with him
Ohoh, the last post on that:
I am a very long time lurker, way back when Sisiutil started his first ALC with Monty, but i just registered to these forums cause of the constant negativity of whiners on these forums. Now back to the topic : Quote: Originally Posted by NobleJms View Post I believe I can speak for the majority of the Civ players here ----------------------------------------------------------------- Firaxis needs to pay attention to us quick or they'll be attracting the wrong kinds of gamers. First of all, how "DARE" you even assume you can speak for a majority, do you have delussions about yourself being some grande speaker? You do *not* speak for me, and many with me it seems, stop being a pompous ass or assuming your some big person cause your not, your nothing. Second of all you seem to like to insult everyone who disagrees with you and actually like the game, cause "if they like the game, they are the wrong gamers". It's of no use whatsoever to go into a normal discussion with a "gamer like you" OP, cause you just tell anyone that disagrees they are the wrong gamers anyways. And with that i'll just leave it, your just a troll whiner who cant win @ CiV, do us all a favour and go back to C-IV.
People are really butthurt about the game. It's sad I think it ain't that bad, could only use some tweaking and bug fixing.
People are really butthurt about the game. It's sad I think it ain't that bad, could only use some tweaking and bug fixing.
There will ALWAYS be fanboys and purists who consider even the slightest change to be game-ruining.
Oh my god it's Fallout 3 all over again except this time the changes are nearly insignificant.
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=385718 oh my god this person is an idiot and actually thinks most people agree with him
I agree with 6 though. Also maybe with 2 too, the resource system is not that good. If I have an iron mine (of 1 iron) and make a Legionnaire, why shold I not get anymore iron out of that mine? Do the Legionnaires require to be fed with iron? They should have iron mines give X amount of iron per turn instead (and raise the iron requirement for units, like 30 instead of 1, considering you would be getting like 3 per turn out of an average mine). Same goes for all other strategic resources. [editline]01:22PM[/editline] I also agree that religion should make a comeback in some way. But the stacks? Oh please no.

In other words, the things they dumbed down or removed (aside from sliders).
Nevermind I fixed it. Does anyone have a solution for this? Running Windows 7 and it asks for Service Pack 2 or Greater. [editline]03:31PM[/editline] It's the Steam demo by the way.
Also the ancient problem of spearman vs tank is still there, even worse now cavemen warriors can throw torches at your airplanes and damage them, what the fuck? There should be a larger difference in strength depending on how big the tech jump was. For example I can understand a few musketmen dying to a platoon of crossbow men, but mechanized infantry losing 1/3rd to spearmen?
You guys do realize that most of the people on civfanatics' forums actually agree with these complaints? That forum is full of old-time civ players (like myself) and they're not really used to the new features. I particularly agree with the graphics complaint: "7. Bring back the graphics of civ: As many players have noted since the game's release, civ's graphics is absolutely terrible. Rivers and trading posts are just plain ugly. It's just about on par with civ iii if you ask me." Rivers look awful at the place where they connect with the ocean, and trading posts look horrendous, I find myself not building as many as I should just because they make me sick.

'OH NO SOMETHING NEW I DON'T KNOW HOW TO WORK WITH! IT'S AUTOMATICALLY SHIT! FIRAXIS IS OBVIOUSLY TRYING TO APPEAL TO DUMB MAINSTREAM GAMERS!!!!' Grow up.
The AI needs some working too. Catherine and Suleiman declare war on me, so I take out Suleiman and offer peace to Catherine which she accepts. Now everyone else calls me bloodthristy, even though I was the one getting attacked and only defended myself, heck I could have taken out Catherine too but I decided not to. How exactly am I the bloodthirsty? The AI just can't keep consistency, it never feels like "Alright I'm allied with this guy now so I can count on him".
Rivers look awful at the place where they connect with the ocean
I spend about ten minutes troubleshooting trying to fix that, before I realized that it wasn't a graphical glitch. Seems rushed? I'd rather it look like Civ 4 and be MUCH improved, detailed and flavourful rather than them catering to the graphics-yay crowd and not being able to flesh out some aspects (like diplomacy)
I hadn't even noticed the rivers thing before I read about it here and actually searched for it.
My response every time Caesar makes fun of my army:
I'm deciding on buying this, or the complete pack of Civ IV. Can anyone tell me which is better, or a better buy? I only have money for one.
It's the 5th game in the series, each game more of a re-make of the one before it, not a sequal and they've been doing it since 1991. Embrace a few damn changes. You know there will be patches and mods out the ass shortly
This game is so hard and I'm only playing on prince difficulty. :saddowns:
I struggle on Warlord, I really need some assistance with my tactics. :v:
My main gripe is that diplomacy is really bad imo.
Anybody else having problems with the sdk. i cant seem to get any of the tools to work
Destroyers are pretty OP :v: : I just steamrolled the Siamese, the Songhai, the Russians and the Greek on Prince diff. with just 2 destroyers and 1 squad of mechanized infantry within 10 years of ingame time. With the range upgrade at level 3 I just bombard the cities out of their missile reach till the city is down to 1 hp, then I roll the inf. in and I look for a new town. If just Montezuma would stop being a worthless fuck.
I struggle on Warlord, I really need some assistance with my tactics. :v:
I haven't even gone above settler so whatever.
I'm downloading the demo, I hope the game runs on my computer, it looks great.
I can't tell which leader is my favorite to play as though, I don't know which bonuses are really worth it or not.
Do you guys find that the game seems to get too easy over time in matches? I was playing on deity (hardest difficulty cant remember its name) and it was hard as tits in the beginning but now after a hundred or more turns or so I got my civ "turtled" up and everyone else is peaceful too... And when they do go to war they hardly do anything. For instance the ottoman empire next to me went to war with someone else and he left 20 destroyers just still chilling at the coast. In other words everyone has a ton of units, but they're not using them even when they do go to war. AND I STILL HAVE NEVER SEEN A NUKE USED. I swear, it's like my game is glitched or something, it's like the AI just says fuck it I don't feel like challenging you anymore.
