Play the demo. Would anyone be interested if I were to start some kind of an AAR? I would be playing on king difficulty on a terra map, random leader unless you guys can suggest a specific leader.

Got a vote for a specific leader you'd like me to play?
Pinut: Beijing is connected to the capital. It's all good.

It's fine as it is. You see that yellow symbol underneath Shanghai? That means it has a trade route with the capital.
Alright. :iia: Ghandi has started to rapidly expand now too, he's up to 10 cities :ohdear: oh shit next turn and he declared war :derp:
I know it's stupid but I hate how when I have something like 3 cities with a road lined up like this: o---o--o and I have 6 or more military units around one of the outer cities and then I need to move them all to the other side, feels like a chore. I mean I can just assign each unit a tile around the target city, but they get all clumped up in the 1-tile-wide road and they end up asking me each turn where to go again because other units are blocking their route.
I love the diplomacy screen of the Askia from the Songhai. Looks awesome.
Okay so I love this game. Really. I have never played a Civ game before and I wanted to see if my computer could run the game so I installed the demo. Loved the demo to death.Seriously. Next day:Bought full game. Love it even more than the demo. I seriously recomend it to EVERYONE. You will be hooked on for DAYS. Got one question though.I've seen on a stream that the streamer had walls in the borders but when I build my walls they only cover the city. Do I have to build The Great Wall or something? Also 1st post, many more to come!

Yeah, the great wall wonder gives you walls along the borders, since it affects everything inside your borders and not just the city it was built in like normal walls.
The Great Wall is the one that makes walls on your borders. [editline]03:03PM[/editline] :ninja:

So i'm commanding the great german empire but I want to know what I leader should I play after? Oh and I do have Babylon. Also who agrees that in the next dlc there should be Spain, Celts and Portuguese empire? Spain is the only civ that can actually compete against English in the sea. Also portuguese empire is pretty good on the oceans.
We need some damn vikings for sure. It's a ripoff that they were in the trailer, but not in the game.
oh god it's getting closer :ohdear: (ghandi)
Try to enter a defensive pact with what appears to be Suleiman, if I'm not mistaken, the empire to the south of Gandhi.

I saw that you can cheat with the SDK somewhere on this thread, anyone knows how ? i don't remember which page it was and search didn't work. Come on, i know someone answered this before.
Think of them as the Barbarians?
That's just a massive insult to their legacy. They discovered america, they visited Egypt and completely dominated england for hundreds of years. They deserve to be a civilization as much as anyone else in the game.

Also, it's still not professionally agreed on who raided the Egyptians, there's debate about whether the Vikings actually are the Sea People they talked about.

There are hints of ancient egyptians in america, but nothing unmistakable. I havn't heard of vikings raiding egyptians, however, i know they traded with them. It is fact that they traded furs for pottery. [editline]11:15PM[/editline] In any case, they have done more than enough to deserve a spot.
I agree, they absolutely do. I'm just a little bored, is all. Are you sure they traded with the Egyptians?
I just finished a game of Civilization that goes to show that losing can be as much fun as winning. I was so overwhelmingly overrun by the Russians and the speed of which they were able to take my cities was incredible. It all started with the Romans. The Romans began expanding quickly very early on and I fought them back to curb their land grabbing. Cathrine of the Russians joined me in this crusade and together we declared war on Augustus Caesar. In the early years of the war New York was taken by the Romans. Cathrine, though, quickly cut through the Roman from the north with her powerful swordsmen while my horse units swept through from the south. I was able to quickly take New York back. The end was near and when it had indeed arrived I was able to deliver the killing blow to the Roman empire and take Rome for myself as well as one other city. Peace had returned to the land. It was then I had realized my mistake. I was too preoccupied with the Romans to keep my Russian allies in check and by the end of the war Cathrine had managed to build an empire of 11 cities and an army of an incredible size with powerful knight units. I only had a handful of cities, Washington, New York, Boston, Rome, and one other. My army was laughable. I only had two horse units and one warrior. Just as I had feared, only a few years after the Romans were wiped out, Cathrine turned on me and declared war against my nation. I was severely out numbered and out maneuvered. Because the war with the Romans was close to the American homefront, and the fact that it had just ended, her units were already within striking distance and in just one fell swoop Cathrine took two of my cities. New York and that one Roman city. Cathrine began moving her troops to Washington and I quickly called my 3 units back to try and hold them off but they were quickly cut. Washington was quickly surrounded but it sported some heavy defense and I was able to take out a number of her knights. Then Cathrine called in the siege units. In one move they were able to decimate Washington's defenses and the city quickly fell. Rome took over as the capital as the Russians marched towards it leaving Boston safe for the moment. Boston, that little town founded just before the war. I knew I didn't have much time so I did the only thing I could. I began building a settler unit. As Rome fell to the Russians I had managed to get one settler and one small warship to protect it as they began to sail east. Cathrine marched her troops to the city-state of Oslo on the way to Boston and I was given a bit of time. My lone settler and warship were heading east when we came to a sailing choke point. We had to sail along the coast of the now Russian controlled Rome. I sent my little warship ahead to bravely draw the cities fire allowing my settler to sail by unharmed. After we got out of Rome's range. Oslo fell to Cathrine and Boston was quickly under attack. My little settler encountered an Egyptian warship who granted them passage into the unknown eastern waters as Boston, the last city of the American nation, fell. And the music only added to the whole experience. Holy crap it was awesome.

I mean technically they did, but Colombus is credited with discovering America because when he discovered it, it actually meant something. For the Vikings it was just some far off land told upon in legends.
I agree, they absolutely do. I'm just a little bored, is all. Are you sure they traded with the Egyptians?
I remember reading about it in several of my history books. They traded for all kinds of exotic things in egypt. They very rarely went there though, because well, it's a ridiculously long trade route. Don't remember the time it took, but i *think* it was 2 years for a full cycle.
They didn't really discover America. Sure, they didn't completely conquer the entire continent, but they made the journey. It was a extremely dangerous trip, and they deserve more recognition for doing it. A map of their travels:
Try to enter a defensive pact with what appears to be Suleiman, if I'm not mistaken, the empire to the south of Gandhi.
He took over the entire ottoman empire in 10 turns :ohdear:. He's just consuming everything in his path.
Wow, huge maps are... well, huge. That means I'm going to have to face Gandhi. :ohdear:
Huge maps are unplayable after some time, it really bogs down even if you have a quad core. Anybody know how "world age" affects maps?
Huge maps are unplayable after some time, it really bogs down even if you have a quad core.
Huge maps are unplayable after some time, it really bogs down even if you have a quad core.
I only have an E7400. :ohdear: And the turns start taking a long time (15 seconds or so) near the end of games on normal size maps.
A play this game sort of like I do Dwarf Fortress and get bored once my population starts getting big.
I love the diplomacy screen of the Askia from the Songhai. Looks awesome.
I love the diplomacy screen for Russia :q:
