Civilization V - Civ: causing all nighters since 1991

Large Earth Map, Russia.
Spawned in (what is now) Central Russia, surrounded by furs. Japan and Greece in SEA, China in Kazahkstan, USA in eastern Europe. Invaded Japan, invaded US, expanded all around. In the meantime, Alexander invades and finishes off Japan, China reduces US remnants into two cities. China and Greece dominant forces.
Greece gets musketeers. Invades and destroys China, Greek empire now stretches from (modern day) Thailand, all the way through Asia, into Europe and Egypt. Then, Alexander invades and destroys me :C.
Oh well, time to try again!
I can't even load the freaking game. It just gives me a black screen and crashes everytime I try to run it :[
The AI does have major issues with water, is that partially to blame?
I don't think so. They were sailing all over the place for most of the game, everyone was, Then they all just stopped and disappeared into the shadows to never be seen again, unless I happened upon them, And there were SIXTEEN civilizations still left
I'm still pissed that Sid Meier still hasn't implemented a cover system
now how the fuck would that work

thats kinda creepy
For 4 hours last night I was playing this on a quick game as the Indians. By the 4th hour as I was about to win by Scientific Victory I get the "HEY DICKFACE, MONTEZUMA JUST WON BY TIME VICTORY LOL YOU SUCK." screen and I checked his score. 1,495 to 1,490. I lost by 5 fucking points and for some reason the game didn't auto save it along the way and then my computer decided that it needed to shut down and restart due to Windows Update. I say there saying what the fuck and realized that I just got trolled by a goddamn game.
Whenever i want to open borders with the AI, the AI refuses.
Am i doing it right?
I go to trade -> Open borders on both.
Sometimes the AI is a dick about Open Borders. I remember Wu Zetian wanted every resource I had and half of my treasury for it. I proceeded to forcefully enter her borders. With tanks.
Should i get this
i never played a Civ before and when i played civ 5 demo i liked it a bit

Did you play all the way through the demo? And was your first thought when you finished the demo, "Ohhh, I wasn't done yet..."?
My first thought when finishing the demo was like "aww no more free time" or something around those lines
then i realized i spent a hour and a half in it and i was like what
If you really enjoyed it then you should get it. I believe the demo actually runs smoother than the actual game though so you might want to take that into account. (That might also have something to do with world size though, I'm not completely sure on that.)
yea in the demo i was buds with all the rulers and didn't attack anyone
That's what I normally do, I'm good at research and building, and usually diplomacy, but I really suck at combat...

It is definitely because of the World Size and the amount of AI's, if I'm correct, the Map size was Small and there was like, 4 AI on the demo. (At least.. that's TWO of the reasons)

Ah, okay. That would explain why I was able to play the demo just fine but when I bought it, I could only get a max of 20 FPS on a huge world.
Yeah, my Turn times were taking 15 to 30 seconds per turn, with HUGE Archipelagos with 19 Civilizations + Me (A couple were repeated civilizations but had a different color scheme) In the late game, and as I was talking about above, the AI just stopped doing shit after the year 2050, and the turn times went back down to 5 - 10 seconds
You broke the game?
I guess the AI just got bored before I did, Fucking addicting game
multiplayer game was doing ends up with my civ5 not responding on the 350th turn :saddowns:
Fucking addicting game
Very, I can't really play the huge map I currently have though... Hopefully the new graphics card I'm getting later this week will fix that though.
For the first time ever, on an Earth map, the game spawned me where my civilization should be.
As China, I was spawned in China. Not Xianjing or Tibetan China, but actual Han China
But it gets better.
It spawned my settler in the exact location of where Beijing is IRL.

How the AI acts about foreign policy is determined by their disposition.
When you talk to them they'll have titles. So and So the Terrible. Consul So and So. etc. etc. You can get a pretty accurate depiction of how they'll act through the titles.
Honour and Rationalism together are a bit overpowered once you get both. Honour will give you double experience, then Rationalism gives you loads of science, ending up in level 5 Riflemen when the rest have long-swordsmen.

Also in Civ4 with the horrible stacks of doom I rarely waged war, now I haven't been peaceful in a single game.

Can you post your computer specs?

After 2062, I as Russia won a hands down at a UN meeting (probably because of the artillery manned islands and nuclear submarines with atomic bombs) springing a Diplomatic victory, but why can't I finish my spaceship?
[editline]11:25PM[/editline]
Also, does anyone else love the giant death robot?

there's a mod on the mod hub which allows you to see their disposition status in the diplomacy menu : )

You cannot complete the spaceship after attaining diplomatic victory.
Whether this is intended or not is unknown at this time.

you can either do it via crossover or boot camp right now
i'm guessing it'll be on steamplay, so i'll just be able to redownload it on osx
[editline]02:40PM[/editline]
what's the best way to get a diplomatic victory? just keep going until you build the UN and then bribe a load of city states?
Just had one hell of a stand at one of my cities, Frankfurt, Lasting from 2068 to 2075 keeping it out of Ghandi's hands... He put ALL of his resources into it and I put ALL my resources into defending it and towards the end, I had the Ottomans attack him, Then I let loose a single A Bomb for defense and was able to Negotiate peace, while liberating Sidon and attaining it as an ally again
(Picture Dump of the war)
This was when Ghandi first attacked, as you can see, Copenhagen is FUBAR, and Frankfurt is only saved if I can swoop in enough units and take care of theirs within the next turn, which I was able to do thanks to guided missiles and stealth bombers, and this is what it looked like after every turn, The entire time

As you can See I've managed to hold onto it, barely, and surround it so they have to fight units before fighting and taking the city

And then the Atomic Bomb (Which I waited to build until a Death Robot was lost so I could build one) followed by peace (All the notifications on the side)

The Ottomons negotiated peace a turn later, and got Vijayanagara and Patauputra in the process
Ghandi just used all his shit in the war... I must have downed over 150 of his units, and lost quite a few of my own. 15 turns may not seem like a lot, but it was a busy ass 15 turns. Just nothing but Tiles of units at my doorstep, I take most of them out, hit next turn, Repeat

Thats how I do it. In an interview before the game came out it was said that city states that are Allied with you are guaranteed votes.
Can you turn off timed-victory mid-game in singleplayer? I don't want to win that way. :frown:

Also :wtc: is "MyComputer Helps" when googling about Civ 5?
