yes i tried that
I started my first game yesterday and I almost got a nuke already. Although I played at an easy difficulty it seemed a bit too easy. Overall, it's a really addicting and entertaining game that I'll keep playing until I master it ;) Right now I wonder if anyone know a better way to travel? Walking with my units across the Earth takes years. I also wonder if there's a "best" civilisation with the best traits? Is there a guide with techniques or something you could tell me - like how you should spend your science points etc?
I started a new game and everything is broken. City production fails on me and doesn't work properly. I have multiple units of my nation and the enemy nation on one single tile.
Funny, I got to modern age in the 1800's in a Huge mapped, 1 Vs. 1, no city-states, Earth map. I started in North Africa, I was washington, going against a random picked enemy .When I found him, he was in NE Asia, and he was Arab king guy. He was still in the mid-Evil era. I just Unlocked nukes, but I decided to take over most of his cities, and nuke the one on Japan.( I might not nuke it though)
I did the same thing to start out easy. I didn't realise that it had random spawns so I went France with my enemy being Montezuma. I started out on what I thought might of been Spain but it soon became apparent that I was on the fucking easternmost peninsula of Siberia. Right over here. Motherfucking random spawns. Had a good game last night. My 3 English cities invaded the Iroquois to the north and annexed them. We were all close by and then captured Florence off our coast and connected it to the main part. Eventually we went to war with France and held off until a peace agreement was done. Then I won the space race.

Roads are pretty much the only way to speed up travel. If you play as Iroquois they can use forests as if they were roads. Units like Chariot Archer have HUGE move distances but they are only really effective on flat ground. Once you research machinery (I think it's fairly early game tech, unlocks crossbowmen), your units travel along roads faster. Bad thing is roads generally take a bit of time to build unless you have lots of workers (which are expensive to upkeep). Getting the Great Pyramids wonder ASAP is a very good thing to shoot for, since it genreally unlocks required tech anyways, and it's bonus of increasing worker speed by 50% is invaluble to building roads or any improvements. Don't go crazy on building roads though since each road tile is 1 gold maintance. this is a MASSIVE drain on your econ if you have a lot of roads. I tend to spend my science on tech that I'll need ASAP. I.E. I'll go for callendar as soon as I can if I have things near my starting city that can use the plantation. If I am focusing on military I'll start going archery or iron working, then focus on culture tech for a bit, etc. And there is no real best civ, tho some suck more than others. Japanese Bushido is AMAZING if your are military focus (make it so units always do full damage even when they are damaged), Pesian get 50% longer golden ages which is great to have, etc. America generally haave shitty tech (minutemen can't travel on roads as a bug for example, and thier +1 sight/half price tile purchasing is okay at best).
Late to the civ train, but i guess the thread title is correct. I just spent 8 hours playing from 9pm -> 5am last night :|
Is it actually managable to conquer the world or win a game with only like 3 cities? I have to try that.
Facepunch is broken.
Fuck. Each time when I start to do good and get a good army up, Ghandi always comes and steam rolls over me.
Fuck, every time I start doing good, getting good army etc Ghandi comes and steam rolls over me :(
Ramesses II + Pyramids + Liberty construction thing policy = roads complete in 1 turn( atleast on quick mode )
Quick mode is for pussies. Marathon is where it's all at.
Every time you guys say China, you mean Siam right? That's the same thing? There isn't some hidden civ that I have no idea about?
No, There's a China in Civ5
archipelago is the most fun map type imo, especially if your trying to get something other than a domination victory
Basic rule when dealing with the AI: Don't trust anyone. they are all fucking backstabbers, just fucking exterminate, annihilate and destroy.
No, There's a China in Civ5
Wow wtf how did I miss that...
I'm playing on the Earth map, biggest size, and when I hit "End turn" it takes about a full minute to come back to me again :psyduck: Does having my graphics settings at the highest affect this at all?

It's the cpu that's doing all the calculations for the ai and other automated stuff.
Fucking Greece. I was friend with them for so long, and now he thinks I'm a city state :saddowns:
Show Alexander your nukes.
So, just played for like, 5 hours, nonstop, no saving (that's my fault). Russia, who started on the same continent as I, was a snotty prick the entire game in their dialogue, yet they were the weakest nation out of everybody. I have like, 4 swordsmen and countless crossbowmen sitting by one of my cities, when Russia decides HERP DERP I'LL DECLARE WAR. The fucking cunt overran me with an entire contintent full of warriors and archers, that literally came out of nowhere, no less than 5 turns before that they definitely weren't on the contintent..
-snip-
Basic rule when dealing with the AI: Don't trust anyone. they are all fucking backstabbers, just fucking exterminate, annihilate and destroy.
Yeah, that's the real problem with this game. In previous Civs, you could get an ally who'd be your bro 4 lyfe, but in CiV there's only two types of AIs : Those you're at war with, and those who hate you.
Oh god Japan, Arabia and Japan is going to war with my for making a bad remark, Arabia has atleast 3 times more units then me. =(

Although on difficulties higher than Prince it will give itself some annoying money bonuses.
archipelago is the most fun map type imo, especially if your trying to get something other than a domination victory
Eh, too bad AI really doesn't know how to do naval combat or naval-anything at all. If you play archipelago then you could litterally sit on your little island the entire time and consistantly win just by doing that.
Anyone else miss the Religion part of Civ? I miss making Jewish Germans or Christian Arabs.
I miss being able to choose government type and Communism being OP. Used to be fun researching Democracy and the Statue of Liberty just so you could become Communist.
