For me it was always Persia. Every random game I started had Persia on it and they would ALWAYS end up dominating half the world. I got to the point where I stopped in including them in games and custom chose the enemy Civs.
Well I usually am Persia though :3:
I nostalgia'd today, I played CivII I love this game :>
Goddamnit, Multiplayer really needs a save option. I've been playing games with a friend of mine but they all last too long to finish. Adding the sp animations would be nice too.
Doesn't the game autosave after every turn or something? Would be pretty retarded to change the game dynamics to make games last longer and not include a save feature in mp.. I hope I'm correct lol. Fucking balls, I just got bummed again. I suck at this gaaaaaaaaaame. Always get stuck between two nations so I can hardly expand all the while they have the whole map to fuck around with :(
Ah yeah i just figured that out, it autosaves every turn in MP and you can load the game when you are in the hosting menu. Thanks.
Just started a game as the Songhai on an Archipelago. Found 5 City states directly below me and I've already conquered 2 of them. One of them is on a single square surrounded by ocean so I don't know what the fuck to do. It also seems like attacking cities is glitched as I could of sworn my archers magicly healed the city.
Don't forget every turn cities heal, much like fortified or alert units.
I know but I could of sworn that their health went up just after my archers attacked them. Maybe it was a glitch as the city was nearly dead anyway.
Don't forget that only melee units can conquer cities, maybe the city was already lowered to minimum health when your archers continued to attacked and so they didn't do any damage?
It was on low health but I didn't have any warriors nearby so I just bombarded it some more. Didn't do any damage but I still think it gave them some health back. Maybe it's like darts where if you don't get it right on, the amount you went over gets added on.
I still don't understand why archers can attack over a short distance but units with guns can't. It makes no sense.
When I asked my friends who have played a multiplayer game, they say that using the save shortcut (ctrl+s) will allow you to save like in single player. I haven't tried this myself though.
It does autosave(every turn) and I've played multiplayer games up untill the industrial era without any real problems, the reason I can't say this for the rest is simply cause I never finish those games and I'm sure it works just fine after industrial aswell.

Maybe you can capture a screen before an archer attacks, showing the city's health, and one after the archer attacks?

That way anyone can pickup the game later and not the original host.
Even if all got autsave, does it need the original players? Or can it take anyone as long there is civilization for players?
Is the workers going crazy and spamming trading posts EVERWHERE a bug, or am I doing something wrong. They were fine for a while, but now they take down every farm and build a trading post there.
Pretty sure it's a glitch. They said in the planned changelog for the upcoming update that they had rebalanced trading post worth. They have their value sometimes though, I covered Siberia with trading posts and didn't give a fuck.
-Bump- I just got Civilization 5 for my birthday and am really loving it except for two things. 1. Why does it run so much slower than I anticipated? (My specs exceed the Recommended Requirements) 2. Why do I need to have Steam for it? (I don't like using Steam at all) The game itself however is pretty bad-ass. However it will never replace my favorite Civilization game, which is Civilization 3: Gold Edition. :D
Gah, I just want more land, and afraid to fight.

It's somewhat CPU intensive, even for me it takes some time for the turns with my OC'd 955. Or if you're talking about overall, try turning off VSync and/or lowering graphic settings 2. Ask devs why they decided to integrate steamworks for it.

The more turns you have, the more units the CPU players have thus, the more the CPU players have to move. 2. Because it's better than SecuRom anyday, unintrusive and you should be shot for saying otherwise.
Also, apparently the devs were sort of lazy with the technical implementation of City-States. Whilst their incapable of many things major civs can do, according to the CPU, they're flagged as fully fledged civs in their own right In any case, Civ has always been a CPU intensive game, not GPU intensive. On my new(est) laptop, I can run CivIV with all the settings maxed out, but ah, running a late game massive map with 15 civs really does make it a bit choppy
This game is impossible to play without lag for me. Even just at the beginning of a new game it's choppy. I really hope they fix the performance issues.
Ok, here I am, on a decent island attached by 4 tile wide land to a larger continent. Next to the 4 tile wide land bridge is a island attached to the land bridged, but separate from mine. The French attack me when I had almost no units, but I repelled their 15+ unit attack with nothing but an archer and three caravel. After that, I push, take two of their cities, and start to attack Paris. Up until this point, the French founded 7 cities, three I've taken, and they took 5 of the English's cities. I attack Paris once, and Napoleon offers a peace treaty that gives me every single city he owns, and resources+money. What?
Lucky you, the computer knew they were outclassed for once.
I don't know why people have all those performance issues. I'm running it fine on a 3 year old pc with no lag whatsoever. Just make sure you run the Dx9 version and not the Dx11 version if your graphicscard can't handle it.
