I got into this game again after the last update. The game is far better than in the initial release, but there are still some major bugs considering combat and animations. Another thing which is annoying is the frameratedrop after a while, the game is terribly optimized.
careful wit yo gramah,
cause "terribly optimised" could mean that it's frighteningly well optimised, or scarily runs well.
but it's ok, i know what you mean
Well it's horrible when it comes to optimizing. Runs like shit even on good rigs.

Runs on my desktop and laptop just fine. At least I feel as if it's been greatly improved since release.
Well, then it's somehting wrong with my configuration.
Is the combat system any less bullshit than the other Civs? I'm tired of waging a two-hour-long war against Gandhi, using Cavalry and Riflemen while everyone else is still Medieval.

You can't have more than one military or civilian unit on a tile, so you can have a worker/settler/great person and someone to protecting it, but not stack 16 riflemen on a city.

That's cool. What about the combat?

Cities themselves can make ranged attacks and have health.

This is all well and good, but the fucking question is are differences between ages more ironed out, combat-wise? I'm tired of somehow losing my city defended by grenadiers and riflemen to horse archers and macemen.

Not as bad as it was in 3, there's usually a 5 combat strength difference between units and their upgrade, but you'll still lose if the other guy has promotions and using better tactics.

That's wonderful. Felt like going up an age only activated the rubber-band AI and gave your units a fancy new model.
Still sometimes it's ridiculous. Once I advanced with tanks, mechanized infantry and paratroopers against some riflemen and old howitzers. I still lost most of the battles.
Well they outnumbered me.
If there's more of them and they're entrenched of course you're going to get your ass kicked.
I still hate many of the small things Civ V is missing. Like world view, satellites actually revealing the map, technology sharing, being able to release some of your cities into nations, etc.

I guess you're right. But it is rageinducing to see how your mechanized infantry with APCs are getting their ass kicked by muskets and shit.

And contested culture boarders.

Actually I believe the Satellites thing was put back in a patch or two ago.
Aww yeah, it's on sale.
It's on sale for 17 dollars right now on steam. Is it worth getting if you're new to the series?
I played civ up to civ 4 I like all of them. Only prob I have is india always beats me to the space age.

Yes, I got it yesterday, it's amazing.
It's pretty damn fun now
Is it bad that i like to play on easy?
It's just too fun using cannons and rifles when the rest of the world's still at pikemen and archers :v:
got the whole world "guarded" against me because i've already annihilated 2 civs for looking at me funny
This game man...
First game, played on chieftain with Alexander. Having tonnes of cash and good relations with all the city states is really nice. I always seem to go the intensive scientific/economic powerhouse route in older Civ games and it seems to work well in the new one too.
The feeling when the attacking Ottoman empire shit themselves and back down after giving you a load of dosh, resources and humble apologies is so ridiculously good. Super science powers, bitches.
culture play is so hard
you just end up way behind because of your lack of cities

Culture always seems like the easiest victory for me.
Though I do play on the easier difficulties.
So if I decided to buy this, would the DLCs be worth it? Just seems to add maps and shit.
I played the demo over and over again until the game finally went on sale. I love it. I've learned that it's way too easy to piss off other civilizations. In one game, I was best buds with Washington and Ghandi. We even went to war with Gangis Khan together. But I did ONE thing that ticked them off, and they never forgave me. They even declared war on me after a while. Though, it was very funny seeing Ghandi tell me that he wanted my empire for himself.

i think there are some mods that actually add similar things to the dlc stuffs

First rule of Civilization: Ghandi is an asshole.
Picked this up for 15 quid in the summer sale, but I still have to play Civ IV because I don't have my new computer yet :v:
