Sorry to say, the fun wont last long, about as long as this thread lasted.
Since the 3rd of September last year?
First rule of Civilization: Ghandi is an asshole.
Second rule of Civilization : Letting Ghandi live means he's going to nuke your ass all the way back to the dark ages.
Second rule of Civilization : Letting Ghandi live means he's going to nuke your ass all the way back to the dark ages.
He can't, I play Ghandi :smug:
I just had to resist destroying Dublin with the tanks they gifted me because they were unknowingly sitting on aluminium reserves that I needed. It is amazing how much power corrupts, even in a game.
god damn it feels so good when you know you can wipe out an opponent but you extort them for money in return for peace but you just slaughter them after payment
god damn it feels so good when you know you can wipe out an opponent but you extort them for money in return for peace but you just slaughter them after payment
Only when they attacked you first. Otherwise it just feels evil as fuck [editline]24th July 2011[/editline] God damn it, why are there no ending videos :C I was looking forward to watching some ending with production values as high as the opening movie.
Sorry to say, the fun wont last long, about as long as this thread lasted.
Nope, I've enjoyed this game quite a bit, and so have all the 10k-15k players that play it everyday on Steam.

I miss religion a bit. Now I can't be a Jewish Germany but then again I now have fewer reasons for Montezuma to kill me.
I bought it on Steam, for 17 dollars. I never played Civ before, but the game seems awesome.
Played it for the first time today (never really got into CivIV), got through the tutorial. It's much more fun that I imagined it would be. In future campaigns I play, is it generally a better idea to annex a city or make it a puppet? (Early on specifically.)

Just bought Civ V for $17
I'd like to buy Civ V. Does anyone know if the $17 sale will be going on tomorrow as well?
I'd like to buy Civ V. Does anyone know if the $17 sale will be going on tomorrow as well?
It ends at 10 am Pacific.
It ends at 10 am Pacific.
So that's in about 9 hours? I'm considering buying it but want to try the demo first as i've never played any Civilization games.
Almost got a cultural victory with one policy branch left when the Iroquois suddenly won with their technological victory. Raged hard. My friends and I are playing a multiplayer game right now and might document it in case of anything interesting that happens.
I had a game in IV recently, and Montezuma was squeezing right up against my borders, making sure I wasn't getting in on any valuable resources and making threats that if I didn't pay him tribute and convert to his religion he'd declare war. Discovered Gunpowder two turns later and reduced his entire empire to one single city on an island in the middle of buttfuck nowhere, making me the Largest and Wealthiest Civilisation on the Planet. He stayed the smallest Civ for the rest of the game, until Saladin destroyed him in 1932 :v:
I'm 12+ hours into my first game and only just now taking over my second enemy. Next up, Elizabeth. That bitch took my land!
Also, my current game, Barbarians literally would not stop appearing and destroying my stuff, meaning all my research and training was going to military instead of expansion. So, by the time they stopped I was forced to build in the shittest of places to make sure I wasn't swallowed by another Civ. Y'know, it seems to me that the early game in Civ V isn't as atmospheric as in Civ IV. In the latter, you had all that nice tribal music and all. The classical music didn't kick in until you were in the medieval/renaissance era, but in Civ V that's all that plays. Somehow this is bugging me. I don't feel as compelled to start new games any more. Maybe that's a good thing and I'll finally be able to finish a game now.
Ahhh, the feeling of making a giant, powerful empire from a puny weak one. Feels good man
I just won my first war! The year is 1952. Is it normal for a game to be this................quiet?
I just won my first war! The year is 1952. Is it normal for a game to be this................quiet?
Depends on how you're playing. I had no wars in one of my games that I played culturally since I wasn't looking for a fight. So it stayed quiet for like the whole game.

I always smile when I already research the Manhatten Project around ~1890.
I miss religion a bit. Now I can't be a Jewish Germany but then again I now have fewer reasons for Montezuma to kill me.
Third rule of Civilization IV : Montezuma will always find a reason to kill you, no matter how much you bribe him with all your money, no matter if he's a single city and you're an empire spanning across the entire map, you'll end your turn just for Montezuma to pop up on your screen yelling that he's declared war upon you for no fucking reason. [editline]27th July 2011[/editline] Also, @Dookster, You have no fucking idea how I raged the first time I played MP with my friend as he was the host, he turned on Barbarians and I told him to turn them off or else I would die, he thought I was joking. What turned out was me with two cities on a peninisula desperately holding off ten waves of goddamn barbarians and they kept coming to my buildings consistently in which I FUCKING RAGED and quit, then I told my friend to go fuck himself :v:. Also, anyone got a mod that removes stacks of dooms? I want it to play like Civ 5 in where only one stack is on a single tile at a time.
