culture play is so hard
you just end up way behind because of your lack of cities
I did it on Chieftain as Greece with one city and lost due to a time victory by 5 turns before completing The Utopia Project.
Very disappointing I tell you.
My first Civ game was 5. I just ordered the Gold edition of Civ 4 for ten bucks online. If what everyone is saying is true I'm in for a treat. :v:

How about don't trust anybody :v:

Bleh, I've never enabled time as a victory condition. It is by far the lamest way to conclude a game of Civilization.
Excited to get my new PC and play this bugger.
I tried playing it on my current rig and was forced to play in strategic view to avoid lag.
I am a little dissapointed at the amount of Civilizations in this game though. It has a decent amount, and I like how they made each leader detailed, but I'm just really going to miss being able to choose between the massive amounts of leaders that Civ 4 had.
Is it me or are cities a lot harder to take in this game then in Civ IV? I had taken out this entire guy's army, yet still lost because he had time to pump out some Über units to take out the remnants of my army after the battle.

If I recall correctly, cities in Civ IV could be captured simply if an enemy unit was moved into one.
In Civ V, cities have their own health and ranged attack, so yeah.

They are harder, but I think it is still nicely balances because you can only have one unit garrison the city.

I love how the Civ IV AI is actually more interesting and advanced than Civ V AI.
It was the earliest century in which I found out Darius was on a small peninsula trying to get out so I blocked him off by settling cities, eventually he got pissed because he couldn't expand and so he declared war on me, which I won because my civilization was bigger and he ended up dying :v:. It was after multiple times of trying to get across diplomatically with open borders.
Me and my friend are doing a the One City challenge against each other. It's fun since he got far ahead in the research so I just declared war and basically staying in his territory pillaging everything. I'm fucked too since I don't have any iron within my city borders or anywhere near me. So I was forced to do it.
First rule of Civilization: Ghandi is an asshole.
I remember when I gave him lots of units and money because he was pretty weak and I felt sorry for him. Then 70 turns later he declared war with me.
What.
Just one more turn.
Just one more turn.
And then suddenly it's 0425 and you have classes in five hours.
I'm probably going to buy this now i'm paid. Too bad i missed the deal on Steam though.. :(. Last time i played Civ was Civ3 and i lost track of time so much that i realised school started in 5 minutes and i was still undressed just finishing a game. :P
Guh, who hates the bots spamming cities, and then insulting you for not also spamming cities?
"HURR HURR! My favorite CITY STATE again! HURR HURR!"

I had a fleet of Aircraft carriers and a three armies of Death Robots and all of a sudden:
Catherine: "Your army is looking a little weak I'm surprised you haven't succumb to a barbarian invasion."

Also Babylonians are OP as fuck.

Bowman erryday.
plus with the walls it makes your cities impenetrable.
Someone needs to write a goddamned manifesto on how to successfully play militarily without getting overrun by Montezuma or Gandhi.
That bitch
I like playing as Alexander and have every city state as my bros.

Aztecs are also OP as all shit, what with their Swordsmen being available almost immediately. On tropical maps, you could take over the first continent before the Renaissance!

Also, does anyone else want a sort of Mount and Blade-esque minigame where you can directly control your soldiers? The random number god system is just a bit too randomly broken, though of course it'd still be in effect, you can just start the minigame to more directly control victory.

Aside from culture, is there any situation in which they aren't Top-tier or Great-tier?
By being so technologically advanced I'm always ahead militarily and in terms of wonders, and economically I never have to field as many units because my cities can hold their own.

I think they are pretty much OP all around.
domination victories are so satisfying.
Nevermind, I have made progress.
Now my problem is that my game won't accept DX 10-11, only DX 9. This wouldn't be a problem if DX9 didn't look like complete ass. Clouds are not clouds, rather they're solid grey hexagons, and ground textures look as if the game was made 5 years ago.

I like to have all the other victories such as diplomacy and whatnot deactivated. Domination seems the most realistic.

Played as Denmark and the placement of my capital was pretty realistic and accurate. Finland and Sweden is above me. Well, not the city states but geographical.
