I've only played CIV V. Is Civ IV fun?
I've only played CIV V. There's also religion, which greatly affects diplomacy (big, juicy bonus if you're the same religion as them, nasty deduction if you're not, alongside various bonuses for each religion).

Most people do, but in some cases it's the only thing stopping a country from going to war with you.
Most people do, but in some cases it's the only thing stopping a country from going to war with you.
Yeah, it's good to keep on friendly terms with your neighbors before going free religion.
would I like Civ V if I like total war games? (I don't like the combat in those games, I usually skip it)
Most likely. Total war's World map mode (I forget the official name) is a lot like Civ.

Map mode (campaign).
I recommend playing Civ V if you like Total War.
Now I started my first proper Prince gameplay. It's going fine!
I only have Civ3.
Should I get 4 or 5? (I like 3 a lot)

what is this thread doing all the way back here
I got Civ 5, works like a charm on my desktop but I'm having trouble getting it to work on my laptop. It has a 1.8ghz Dual Core and an integrated GMA950, I guess that isn't good enough. Oh well. Going to get cracking now, just playing the "learn as you play" tutorial thing as England right now.
Loaded up a very old save from when I first got the game, noticed I'd agreed to a pact of friendship with Nobunaga Oda.
Oh how naive I was back then.
The dark lord Gandhi sallies forth from his elephant fortified mountain stronghold.
The world trembles.

Yeah, this thread is pretty much dead nowadays.
Tip: Remember to only have max 3 cities. It will be harder to maintain your happiness and gold maintenance if you have more than 3. (You need happiness to achieve 'Golden Age'). Golden Age makes your gold and happiness output somewhat doubled.
This game is not hard to learn. You will learn as you play the game and if you had any experience with other RTS games the better. I didn't look up tutorials on Youtube and I'm a pretty experience player

Not as dead as the Total War thread.
Do I really have to watch the beginning of the intro video every time I start the game? I can't find any option to disable it and I have watched all of it twice now.

in one of the .ini files in my documents/civ5 you can change something, one sec I'll get better instructions for you
[editline]20th August 2011[/editline]
C:\Users\Sam\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5
open UserSettings with notepad, and change the line SkipIntroVideo = 0 to SkipIntroVideo = 1
I always thought the opening cinematic doubled as a loading screen.
It does, if you press esc at the start it'll go to the menu once its done loading.
Is there a fix for that runtime error when loading saves? Everything I've tried doesn't work.
Nobunaga asks
Can I be your ally please?
Always betrays you.
I'm minding my own business, working on culture
SUDDENLY, GANDHI
"I hope there is peace between our people"
I'm so fucked
Best song in the game? I don't know if it's national pride or anything but for me it'd have to be England's "I Vow to Thee, My Country."

Oh crap page king. Here, have the song.

I agree.
I like the European civilizations, because they use classical-ish songs.
I haven't come across any other players, just two other city states that I raped and pillaged. I'm now pretty much landlocked, there's mountains I can't get over and ice in the seas blocking most areas.
I guess I could just go off into the ocean where I can, but balls to it. Going to start a new game on Pangea or whatever it's called, rather than the World map.

music like this brings tears to my eyes, but I hate to listen to it because I look like a giant faggot
how the fuck does happiness works? my civ is always unhappy.
Earth map on the highest size is really fun.
I like invading Australia and use the whole continent/country as my military island.

Each city brings unhappiness. This is one reason why you should only have max 3 cities. Buy buildings with + happiness. Just watch your gold.

Luxury Resources. The more you have the happier your cities are.

Why?
Being a bit nationalist is nothing wrong. People mix up nationalism with national socialism/Hitler way to often these days.
Best Civ song is still Baba Yetu. It just captures the scale of this game perfectly.
Also, why do hadcore civ fans complain about civ5s hex system? I thinks its better TBH.
