Watching my friend play as Rome right now. Every Civ he meets declares war on him within two turns. Because of this, he's constantly being forced to build Military Units and Military Research. He has settled 3 cities since he started and his people do not even know the secrets of pottery. The year is 1550AD :v:
How's that working out for him otherwise
god, i wish the politics weren't so shitty in civ 5 ill be minding my own buisness, chilling with my big ass army when suddenly, some leader who i'm tight with wants me to attack some other leader who is a dick and all the other civs hate him. so i agree and proceed to start tearing the dickhead leader to shreads, tearing apart his cities and refusing his peace offers while the other civs sit back and do nothing to help me. after the dickhead civ is gone, the leader who im tight with denounces me, which leads to other leaders denouncing me which fucks up all trade with them.
I find it takes way too long to mass up an army and wage a war.
Before reading this thread I thought this was odd...but now... Also I love how Britain denounces me for attacking a city state and says "Isn't it nice how the large nations of the world pick on the small and helpless?" Christ go read a history book.
I've noticed that Germany, even if "random personalities" is checked on, always starts shit with me.
I miss the civics system in Civ IV. I'm not opposed to streamlining but it seems to me they cut out a lot of features for V unnecessarily.
-Double post-
Progress on the war versus Gandhi is failing. He outnumbered me. I only have two cities left and his army is stronger than mine. Nearly every city state has been captured, there is only three left. Two of those are permanently in war with me, since Gandhi somehow became friends with them. The other one is poor and miserable. I have no gold left so I can't really give them influence. I'm thinking of selling a city for peace, once I do that I should settle a city in middle of two other civs. Me + 3 other civs has denounced him, so another war should be declared soon.

Who is the hardest Civ to play?
So how would one go about getting into this sort of game having no experience before? I like the idea of growing a civilisation but I always sucked at stuff like Cities XL and that.
Who is the hardest Civ to play?
America, useless Unique ability and late game units that are not that great. So any form of victory will be pretty hard
Who is the hardest Civ to play?
Gandhi

The Interface is really helpful and you have advisors which give you a nice guideline. It is really not that difficult, although the complexity that has been taken out is a dissapointement for the die-hard Civ fans. Combat is a lot better though.

Can you make cities different as in one is freewill, other wants to dominate? Also, I can't construct roads which is probably the most easiest thing ever. How? :v:
You need to have the wheel technology
Ahh, thankyou. I can see why people like this, satisfying seeing your cities grow etc. [editline]4th September 2011[/editline] Oh wow, finally got to constructing road. Nooby as I am, I thought the road would replace the current tile but the road goes through my farms V:v:V This game is awesome
It's amusing, yes. What are your favorite civs? Right now, I'd say Rome is mine. Build all cities in Rome and everything else goes up 25% faster. Amazingly powerful early game units if you have the iron. and above that, your legionnaires can build roads towards the enemy frontlines before declaring war and then you can reinforce your lines or fall back at amazing speed. Bonus points if you then expand this road and link your conquered city to your capital immediately.
Mine is France, I think. That cultural boost is really useful early game. Late game, I'd probably say Russia or Greece.
I don't get what happened. I was building up Russia past the year 2030 AD, conquered two places, great army, economics doing well and making large profits, yet I get a random screen going "CIVILISATION COLLAPSED" as apparently China beat me? Yet I was never in contact or fighting them..

Okay, doing quite well so far. Anyone got any tips?
Just started playing this on my friends Mac, it's incredibly well optimized. The last Civ game I recall playing was Civ 3, which was a long time ago. It's changed quite a bit. My first game I was stuck on an island with Ghandi, so I decided to ally with him. So far he's the dominant player, haha. [editline]5th September 2011[/editline]
Gandhi
The AI seems to disagree. [editline]5th September 2011[/editline] Oh, another thing: he keeps sending me gifts, it's like he's gay for me or something.
He'll wait until you've built yourself up then bam. Elephants outa fucking nowhere
Kill him. He's going to kill you.
How do you know? When they start being all nice and shit that means they are going to kill you or something?
Ghandi gets war elephants and is a sociopathic omnicidal maniac.
Oh my.
I'm surprised his admirers don't get offended over the way his AI acts.
