Well, I had a good sized navy (3 frigates, 4 carvels), around 12 riflemen and 5 cannons. This was a barely decent military size to defend 4 cities, but apparently it was too overwhelming for the AI's. I wasn't even going for a domination victory, I was being a culture focused Civ
Robot Absorbs 'Civilization' Manual, Goes On To Win Games By Elizabeth Fish, PCWorld Jul 16, 2011 1:19 PM For a while now, we at GeekTech have been documenting how robots are edging the human race further towards obsolescence. They can play sports better than us, clean up messes, and even make better cookies and pancakes than us. Now, robots are stepping it up a notch by not only reading books, but actually understanding and learning from them too. Researchers at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab have been testing a robot's ability to read, using an instruction manual for the game Civilization. The robot was then able to take what it had read in the manual and play the strategy game--and win around 80% of the time. The robot was able to understand what it read and learn from it, thanks to a machine-learning system created by MIT Labs. What's more interesting, though, is that MIT Labs only showed the bot how to read the manual, not necessarily to use what it had read to go on to win--after all, it's a manual, not a guide to winning. Therefore, the robot is also able to reflect on general advice and use it to its best ability. What's more, the researchers also tested a more advanced algorithm to compare winning statistics, but found that a robot could only win about 60% of the time. The project's original aim was to show how robots could understand language, but it may now also be used to make writing the codes and algorithms for against-the-computer matches much easier for programmers, as well as making it a little trickier for players to beat. The research so far has been more the promising--not only can robots begin to think linguistically like humans, but also carry out tasks using both what it has just learned and process of elimination. While not too likely to make people obsolete just yet, our electronic friends could be useful for helping in certain jobs as well as just video games, like the medical industry. You can read more about the project on MIT's website.
Probably Civ 5, the magazine I have has a picture of civ V with it so yeah. [editline]24th September 2011[/editline] I want to play against it.

I'm looking for some good mods for CIV V but most nice ones haven't been updated, Any suggestions?
I played some duel yesterday. I've never played it and I thought I could give it a try. I thought the AI would declare war on me as soon as we met, because I'm the only "enemy" in the game. In the beginning I skipped monuments, scouts and focused on warriors and archers. The AI spawned as Bismark on the other island. Bismark wanted to trade, declared friendship and all that good stuff. I rejected everything and went straight for war. I was playing as Alexander and rushed the Patronage policy tree. I spent all my well earned money on all the four city states. I won at turn 150. I'm not sure if you can use them all at the same time, I recommend having only one. Total war is bugged and broken if you download and install it right from the CIV mod downloader. I think you have to download it, open the mod directory and read the readme that comes with it.

Does Civ 5 depend much of the GPU for handling large maps, civilizations/city states or is it more or less dependent on your CPU? Also do turn times go faster on a faster CPU?
On one hand, I really like Civilization V. On the other hand, I suck complete balls at it and just let all my units be automated wherever possible and play on the easiest difficulty setting and just blindly follow my advisors' advice and oh god please hold me I am so terrible at this game I don't understand anything even with tutorials.
Does Civ 5 depend much of the GPU for handling large maps, civilizations/city states or is it more or less dependent on your CPU? Generally I've always built up my cities without any particular focus in mind, but at the moment I'm playing as Babylon and I'm experimenting with having specialised cities (culture, research, gold etc) and seeing how that works out for me. Good idea?
I always focus production at first, rush all the wonders I can and then switch to food while I construct my military. If I get the Hanging Gardens, I stick to Production.
fucking game why dont you work DX9 crashes instantly and DX11 just gives a black screen then crashes.

Too bad I was making 200gpt and bought myself an army twice the size of his.

[editline]29th September 2011[/editline] The processor or RAM might be your problem, I'm guessing RAM. [editline]29th September 2011[/editline] Yup, it's the RAM. The system requirements (recommended) says 4GB of RAM.
yeah, we were in need of a computer and we dont have much money so the cheapest PC we could get was this.
That sucks. Have you tried the Strategic View, it's very useful for underpowered computers.

How about you play Civ IV? Many fans prefer that one anyways.
Yeah, sorry mate, looks like it ain't happening. How about you play Civ IV? Many fans prefer that one anyways.
I cant even run it. It crashes on startup. And Civ4 is boring as shit after 2-3 games and armies are bullshit.
I recently adquired Civ IV with all the expansions, and I'm wondering what mods do you folks recommend? Apparently Civ IV shines on the mod department
