Today I played the indian AI as greece on a pangaea type landmass. Goddamn gandhi declared war on me and he was allied with all but one city state. I beat him back and he wanted peace. Once I got to the modern era, I steam rolled all the city states there that were against me and I sent my modern era troops against gandhi's horse mounted units. I forced gandhi into attacking me because I did a quick early game expansion that choked him out and prevented him from growing
Never trust gandhi, his devotion to "non-violence" is a ruse so you won't suspect his 50 elephants at your border.

I suspect that those fuckers may be in cahoots. France surrendered along with spoonfeeding me a ton of luxury resources and the city of Lyons. This ceasefire will now allow me to divert my Eastern forces to the west to confront the Slavic hordes encroaching on my capital!!! The city of Almaty was a city-state and it was caught right in the middle of my fight so I did what was best and I pulled a Schleiffen on the city and marched over it.
My playing style is amass money and prepare for inevitable war, which I can easily turn my cities from pumping out money , to making soldiers. For example, was playing MP with some friends and this one guy had like over 20 cities, I had about 5-6. Constant dickwaving and he finally attacks, thing is though I turned my economy around (which I have been saving up for war) and pumped out troops. Crossbows + Horsemen army just destroyed his invasion force (Over 15+ units) and he didn't take a single city (my advantage was that he did not create any sort of pikemen to counter my units). He also had to manage him invading my ally aswell. He raged quit and I felt victorious.
Oh God, Gods and Kings comes out the very day I finish my final exam. This shit's gonna be sweet.
10 more days apparently. Didn't even realize. [editline]9th June 2012[/editline] Also, something from my experience with this game; there needs to be more production wonders, hopefully the 9 new wonders will have some.
I would love to have an Alpha Centauri remake, but in a dark/gritty science fiction atmosphere like the orginial. That game beats Civ everyday. Perhaps Civ3 and AC are on the same level. The social engineering and tech tree is just so great, besides the ability to design your own units is amazing.
Wow, I just realized how incredibly ancient this thread is.
It'll soon be moving into the Classical Era when we research Expansion Packs.
Played the demo and I must that it is a good game. Had me confused as fuck when I started to.
I think you accidentally a few words.
That was a unnecessary.
Which Civ game had irrigation and health? I think it was Civ III, because I remember I played it when I was like 10 or something and I didn't know what I was doing so I just made irrigation everywhere and my people hated me because their health was like -30
I think you accidentally a few words.
It sounded better in my head.
Civ IV has health, III doesn't iirc.
I remember that after I once defeated the aztecs, Germany promptly went to war with me, after wiping him out in around 1840 AD, I went into a "cold war" with the other 8 remaining players for the next +- 160 years, denouncing me all the time. I built the UN and bought out all the city states, and a turn before the UN Vote, Russia had the guts to go to war with me. I won by diplomacy. And on the Earth map, does anyone else seem to always start in the China area? I always end up starting there.
Since I have Civ 5 GOTY downloading I was wondering what mods I should get?
I personally play vanilla. But then again, I can't get myself to play now in anticipation of G&K. But I feel like most mods are just balance fixes (which later on got fixed in patches anyway) or add features and civs which feel tacked on.
I always play Germany, and I don't have such a...good copy. But besides that, Its lots of fun!
Since I have Civ 5 GOTY downloading I was wondering what mods I should get?
The first and only mod I ever downloaded was the one that lets you play as Hitler. It's all you need, really.
Are you hinting at piracy there
Are you hinting at piracy there
Totally not!
Someone needs to make a civ facepunch group on steam
I really like the exploring aspect the most of games like Civ, so I always end up looking for awesome places to create a few cities, and usually end up either winning a cultural victory, or starting a new game early into the industrial era.
Since I have Civ 5 GOTY downloading I was wondering what mods I should get?
Get Extended Era Mod if you like realistic, drawn-out games. EEM makes techs research very slowly, while units train at a normal pace, so each era lasts much longer, and the game itself is longer as a result.

Epic and Marathon aren't worth the time if your expecting longer time in eras with units being more relevant. It instead is just long build/research times for everything.
NiGHTS is pretty cool too, it completely redoes the tech and policy trees.

North America was a bitch to colonize because the entire west coast, save for one tile was mountains. It would have been easy to defend if they would have attacked.

I now dominate pretty much all of the Indian subcontinent and the rest of lower-Asia. I'm opening my Empire to the Middle-East so that I can try to get a lucky oil tile once I discover it. Where should I turn my conquest to now? Rome has Northern Africa and Hanoi is one of the largest city-states that has the peninsula, Russia is still weak after I pretty much wasted their time spamming warriors in a previous war.
Take all the city-states.
Yeah, I'll probably start mobilizing for Hanoi. I'll showcase to the world my first musketeers. I want to see if I can get tanks off the assembly line by 1800. I'll have to fix the road system so I can save a gold or two and then try to modernize the conquered cities by constructing universities and focusing on science so I can make more war machines.
