Civilization V - Civ: causing all nighters since 1991
That would have to do mostly with processor and/or RAM.
Mostly the processor. Late in the game, there's a ton of units and cities, and just a lot of stuff for your computer to process in the late game.
Would explain why it takes 5 mins just to fully end a turn.
I see you've invaded Candyland
Well hello there mister Caesar, how very nice to receive you! Would you like a piece of candy, or perhaps a rub job?
Snip. I'll spare you the stupid.
I was thinking, it seemed weird to suddenly transition from Medieval era to Industrial era so what would be a good bridging era. I was thinking the Age of Discovery (with a different name of course). Maybe new trading vessels are discovered, new resources like coffee, silk, and whatnot, bonus to trade, and the arrival of the first gunpowder units? Just throwing out ideas. What are some other ideas for eras to bridge the gap between Medieval and Industrial you guys have come up with?
The Renaissance is after Medieval .

Oh right. It's been a while since I last played. Now I feel dumb.
Seems like common sense to me.
So Harun Al-Rashid calls me up and mocks my economy for being in "terrible shape" and threatens to invade me. I'm not in a golden age and I'm generating 140g a turn. So I look him up in the trade menu and what do I see? He has exactly 141g a turn. Well played, Arabia.
I like it when the AI denounces me even though every single city state is my ally. It's like, what's the point?
God damn, I wanna play a game so badly but I've been getting shitty maps each game.

is noone going to tell me how to fix this i cannot conquer puny germany until its fixed :(
Tone your setting down maybe, I had something similar but I kinda just stuck it out. After I got some new hardware I never saw the issue again though.
Soon I will try a onecity challenge in one of the Civs, or perhaps Alpha Centauri :v:
It's easy to get one in Civ5 if you play as Ghandi and start somewhere with a good food supply.
Don't know if any of you saw this on reddit and its about Civ 2 but thought you guys might be interested.

Basically, someone played a game of Civ 2 for a decade and it ended in the last 3 nations (Celts, Vikings, and Americans) in an eternal war that has lasted for 1700 years and the earth is so hideously ruined by nuclear war that there are no farmlands, just swamps, jungles, and fallout. There are no cities, only towns since all money is being used to build tanks that instantly get destroyed by nukes. Very 1984-like.
Man, fuck Siam. He pretty much just erased me in 20 turns. Wanker.
I just played Civilization Revolution for the first time on consoles :v: hontestly I isn't even that bad. It lacks some of the finesse though. But it works well and the controls are amazingly good. It's really fun, perhaps I will get it for a few bucks once I find it sometime.

Firaxis are always going on about how much they enjoyed making Civ Rev, and that all the streamlining and user interface improvements in Civ V mostly came from what they learned while making Civ Rev, as forcing themselves to make it work for the console got them to realise all these ways of genuinely improving the interface and gameplay not just for consoles, but also for the game in general, such as presenting information to the player, how much to display and where to show it came from working with lower resolutions and people sitting on couches far from the screen and stuff.
Or something like that.

This, the Civ Rev UI was just so slick. As opposed to the Civ IV UI, which you would get lost in.
Someone linked me to a post on Reddit last night where this guy has played the same Civ II game for the last 10 years, it was a pretty decent read, Here's a quote of the post
I've been playing the same game of Civ II for 10 years. Though long outdated, I grew fascinated with this particular game because by the time Civ III was released, I was already well into the distant future. I then thought that it might be interesting to see just how far into the future I could get and see what the ramifications would be. Naturally I play other games and have a life, but I often return to this game when I'm not doing anything and carry on. The results are as follows.
The world is a hellish nightmare of suffering and devastation.
There are 3 remaining super nations in the year 3991 A.D, each competing for the scant resources left on the planet after dozens of nuclear wars have rendered vast swaths of the world uninhabitable wastelands.
-The ice caps have melted over 20 times (somehow) due primarily to the many nuclear wars. As a result, every inch of land in the world that isn't a mountain is inundated swamp land, useless to farming. Most of which is irradiated anyway.
-As a result, big cities are a thing of the distant past. Roughly 90% of the worlds population (at it's peak 2000 years ago) has died either from nuclear annihilation or famine caused by the global warming that has left absolutely zero arable land to farm. Engineers (late game worker units) are always busy continuously building roads so that new armies can reach the front lines. Roads that are destroyed the very next turn when the enemy goes. So there isn't any time to clear swamps or clean up the nuclear fallout.
-Only 3 super massive nations are left. The Celts (me), The Vikings, And the Americans. Between the three of us, we have conquered all the other nations that have ever existed and assimilated them into our respective empires.
-You've heard of the 100 year war? Try the 1700 year war. The three remaining nations have been locked in an eternal death struggle for almost 2000 years. Peace seems to be impossible. Every time a cease fire is signed, the Vikings will surprise attack me or the Americans the very next turn, often with nuclear weapons. Even when the U.N forces a peace treaty. So I can only assume that peace will come only when they're wiped out. It is this that perpetuates the war ad infinitum. Have any of you old Civ II players out there ever had this problem in the post-late game?
-Because of SDI, ICBMS are usually only used against armies outside of cities. Instead, cities are constantly attacked by spies who plant nuclear devices which then detonate (something I greatly miss from later civ games). Usually the down side to this is that every nation in the world declares war on you. But this is already the case so its no longer a deterrent to anyone. My self included.
-The only governments left are two theocracies and myself, a communist state. I wanted to stay a democracy, but the Senate would always over-rule me when I wanted to declare war before the Vikings did. This would delay my attack and render my turn and often my plans useless. And of course the Vikings would then break the cease fire like clockwork the very next turn. Something I also miss in later civ games is a little internal politics. Anyway, I was forced to do away with democracy roughly a thousand years ago because it was endangering my empire. But of course the people hate me now and every few years since then, there are massive guerrilla (late game barbarians) uprisings in the heart of my empire that I have to deal with which saps resources from the war effort.
-The military stalemate is air tight. The post-late game in civ II is perfectly balanced because all remaining nations already have all the technologies so there is no advantage. And there are so many units at once on the map that you could lose 20 tank units and not have your lines dented because you have a constant stream moving to the front. This also means that cities are not only tiny towns full of starving people, but that you can never improve the city. "So you want a granary so you can eat? Sorry; I have to build another tank instead. Maybe next time."
-My goal for the next few years is to try and end the war and thus use the engineers to clear swamps and fallout so that farming may resume. I want to rebuild the world. But I'm not sure how. If any of you old Civ II players have any advice, I'm listening.
Edit: -Wow guys. Thanks for all your support. I had no idea this post would get this kind of response. -I'll be sure to keep you guys updated on my efforts. Whether here on Reddit, or a blog, or both. -Turns out a whole subreddit has been dedicated to ending this war. It's at /r/theeternalwar
Pretty friggin' awesome. A real shame Civ 5 doesn't have the depth and mechanics to have such a game today

Seriously, it was just four posts above yours.
I want to play a Civ game, but am dumb and have yet to successfully learn how to play a strategy game to an acceptable level.
Which one should I start with?

That is of no use to me whatsoever, I mean, I appreciate you trying, but you literally just said you didn't know what you were talking about.

Reading 4 posts above you is not "reading everything".

It's really easy to get into and, quite honestly, the best one IMO.
I am currently doing the One City Challenge in Civ3. I am currently still in the game and build myself an awesome city without any major problems. Although I am being surrounded by all kinds of nations who are at war. I fear for my future.
Still I try to survive :v:

Five's the easiest to get into, it's got an expansion that adds more depth coming out soon though.

If that's the most recent one, I doubt my computer can run it :(

It can, just use strategic view.
