I knew shit was going to hit the fan some point in the future when I heard Dust was going to be PS3-exclusive.
did they ever say why it's exclusive?
did they ever say why it's exclusive?
Mostly because Sony will allow better integration with their servers (It's all one big universe, after all), and they're much more willing to let out constant updates without charging customers for them, as EVE regularly gets and is planned for DUST. [editline]25th June 2011[/editline]
Damn, I'd love to get into EVE, but I sense this is a really REALLY bad time to do it, right?
PM me for an extended invite
I rioted for a bit then canceled my subscription.
I rioted for a bit then canceled my subscription.
Eh...that's extreme.
You've never played EVE have you.
The reason people are pissed off is because a leaked memo from the company basically said "Who gives a shit what the players want, they'll pay for anything we throw at them because they're addicted to the game. Just wait for this to boil over." They also pretty much said that EVE is their little cash cow that they're just milking at this point with pointless updates in order to work on Dust and WoD. The monocle costing $70 is just a nice way of showing that the direction this game is going in is bad. I'd say that the rioting is completely justified and that cancelling your subscription over all of this isn't an overreaction in the slightest. I don't play the game so I'm not particularly enraged, but I can understand why people would be upset.
The reason people are pissed off about the internal memo is not because the monocle costs 70$, not really. The internal memo says that adding cash shops for useful items was coming, instead of having to play the game for enough ISK to purchase a ship, you could not pay a few dollars to buy one, as well, they implied that any of these purchases would be permanent, breaking the entire aspect of "Only fly what you can afford to loose" ect.
Why do I have the idea that more people will start playing because of all the outside media coverage and demonstration of the flexible gameplay that this rioting is providing.
Man, and I was just about to get into Eve...
You've never played EVE have you.
For 2 months. I stopped playing it months ago, nice game, but I happen not to have enough time to play it
Except you can just buy your gametime with in-game currency and never pay a dime...
Eve is incredible to study, the social interactions and economics are unlike anything else. I've never played it myself, but it's probably the most successful MMO in terms of actually being it's own independant, fully functioning, self sufficient universe. The awesome shit that goes down is great, it's like something out of a movie. Like that time a guild (or the eve equivalent) sent a spy into their biggest rival's ranks, and it took him like 5 years to work his way to the top then he completely fucked them over from the inside out. Badass.
That sounds amazing, do you have a source on that? I'd love to read about it.

One of the few great stories of EvE. There was another one similar of a guy who ran a player run bank and just took off with the assets
they're talking about selling gameplay affecting stuff too.
what exactly? I'm not up to date on this.
Wow, that memo is sickening. And here I thought CCP was one of the good companies.
Better ammo, ships, guns, etc. Better as in better than anything you could get in game by playing.
how pointless, also isn't a titan worth about 2000 dollars or more if you convert real money to plex and then to ISK? somewhat insane a few clans have several of them. [editline]25th June 2011[/editline]
Wow, that memo is sickening. And here I thought CCP was one of the good companies.
where did you read the unedited full memo?
Yah, i would also enjoy a link to the unedited memo. Been playin since 06, unless they add special items that actually mean something i could care less though.
Can someone explain what the hell is going on in that video?
Can someone explain what the hell is going on in that video?
Everyone's shooting at an indestructible monument with all their weapons.
no shuttlebombing?
From what I've read people have snipped the juicy bits out of the news article I may or may not be wrong but heres what I think based off the assumption. Its meant to bring all ideas to the table REGARDLESS of them 'looking' good or bad. Its all about brainstorming in a company and leads to more open doors to venture through, obviously it wasn't meant for public eyes, it's a totally in-house discussion and CCP for the past years has been listening to the playerbase, why would they sink their ship with the small dedicated fan base they have? From a business standpoint they're going to lose more money upsetting the players that have multiple alts (Yes some people pay up to 100$ a month for all their alts) so why in the hell would they? In my eyes this is like the Man-conomy update, mass bitching then everyone got over the fact YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY THE HAT'S same thing applies to clothes. In the end the idiots who spend 70$ on a virtual monocle helped CCP get more funding to make an even bigger EvE.
All this caused by a monocle. [sp]And that memo.[/sp]

I hope this game doesn't die, it's unique. I mean I'd never play it but it's unique. That or someone needs to develop a new EvE-like game.
Everyone's shooting at an indestructible monument with all their weapons.
it's lagging the servers for good.
Too bad the same can't happen to TF2. would solve some problems. I think I'm going to watch that riot in-game, seems awesome :v:
