Because it's proof it was a game made for PC first and not consoles. It was never a big enough feature for console ports to add it in, so games that have it were certainly PC first. Really, I opposed cover because I thought it was gimmicky and crouching was plenty, but cover was implemented amazingly well so I've become a believer.
It's much easier for the developer to make a game on console and then port it to PC though. [editline]16th June 2011[/editline] Then you have games where they port it from PC to Console like DNF, and it runs terribly on the 360, but fine on the PC. But if you port a game from Console to PC, both versions run fine and then you can add stuff to the PC version for high-end users.

Bioshock's a fine game, but you can tell they dumbed it down to fit better on consoles.
So after already playing through it once with standard keyboard/mouse control, I tried the leak with an Xbox 360 controller and it's surprisingly competent as a console game (if the controls are anything to go by). Selecting weapons is smooth (if a tad awkward at times) as you have to just hold the 'Y' button to bring up a radial menu (which also freezes the game for your convenience) and the active augmentations are activated with the D-Pad, which is actually much more comfortable than the function keys. Makes me regret pre-ordering the Xbox 360 version (I really want my dad to play this but he's not a PC gamer) a lot less. :v:
And I agree, the cover system is a lot better than a lean button. I was part of the "against cover system" crowd before I played the leaked version and I can say It's changed my mind about it. I like it better this way.
Cover systems are fine but they don't really work in first-person. I still think first person games should not have third person elements except maybe in cutscenes.
I'm playing the leak and I'm loving it so far (I already preordered the game) I have a question though. What difficulty do you guys recommend I should play if I only want to play in 1st person? I've tried playing Deus Ex difficulty but combat is way too difficult in first person. I literally die every time from 1 bullet when I stick my head up. Clearly the game was balanced around using the cover system which is a shame, as I like to immerse myself using 1st person.
Put it on normal and use cloak a lot. [editline]16th June 2011[/editline] Actually, screw the cloak, put points into the seeing through walls and radar augs that let you see the enemy's cone of vision and so on.
Just to warn people, some people I know have received key loggers from downloading the beta. So I would advise people to scan their pcs for spyware.

Hot damn, that sounds useful.
Only on the radar though, not in 3D space
Only on the radar though, not in 3D space
Darn. Still pretty damn useful. That way I know when I can stick my head out and not get "WHO'S THERE?" and the sound of of guns being drawn and armed.
You mean where you sway side to side like a fishing boat in rough waters?
Yeah it's funniest in Red Orchestra where the guy will just be standing straight up with a gun and then his torso will be angled at 45 degrees it looks so ridiculous.
Yeah it's funniest in Red Orchestra where the guy will just be standing straight up with a gun and then his torso will be angled at 45 degrees it looks so ridiculous.
Well, RO2 has a first person cover system complete with blindfire.
Anyone got hands on the new comic? I heard the fifth issue is already out.
I really enjoyed the leak, so I'm definitely getting this. g2play.com has a pretty good deal, where you can get the game for 35 euro's + metro 2033 for an extra 6 bucks or something. All together it's cheaper than on steam, and you even get two games.
I just found this interview video with new footage of the game: [editline]16th June 2011[/editline] New trailer? (Off-screen):

What a shame. [editline]16th June 2011[/editline]
I fucking hate that the silenced sniper and the AUD are exclusive to preorders, they're hugely useful.
I fucking hate that the silenced sniper and the AUD are exclusive to preorders, they're hugely useful.
I'm sure you can buy them later off or unlock them by safe editing. either way, there will only be one dvd for all versions I guess and unlocks are just codes.
I fucking hate that the silenced sniper and the AUD are exclusive to preorders, they're hugely useful.
Maybe that's why they are preorder exclusives. They wouldn't try and put something useless in like a hole punch or big stick in as a way to convince people to preorder.
I think I've got to a point now where I don't need/want to see anymore footage. The leak totally sold me and any more would spoil me. [editline]16th June 2011[/editline] From what I gather the weapons are just booster pack codes.
I fucking hate that the silenced sniper and the AUD are exclusive to preorders, they're hugely useful.
AUDs are purchasable in shops. Proof: Go to the abandoned gas station in Detroit or check out that underground arms dealer in his apartment room.
AUDs are purchasable in shops. Proof: Go to the abandoned gas station in Detroit or check out that underground arms dealer in his apartment room.
They are, but you can only purchase them if you have the pre-order or whatever.
There are a couple all over the place. It's hella nice starting off with 10,000 credits though. And the silenced rifle is a godsend, although I wish you could just stick a silencer on the normal sniper, I hate the camo :P
They are, but you can only purchase them if you have the pre-order or whatever.
And where is your proof of this? Why would they stop regular users from buying AUDs? As spekter has already said, these pre-order items are obviously booster packs.
Would be too complicated to piss around making it so you can't by AUDs from every single vendor that has them if you don't have the code. Obviously a booster since you get all the weps straight away. What would be the point in those being exclusive to pre-order if you're only getting them that one single time. No ones gonna haul them for the entire game.
So uh... from the leak, would you guys be able to say this is a worthy sequel to Deus Ex? I'm deliberately avoiding too much information about this game, I might even have to build a new PC to play it.
They are, but you can only purchase them if you have the pre-order or whatever.
I'm pretty sure they said in an interview the AUD is just a Booster, you can buy them normally in shops.

Combat is more fun and it's easier to get started on, but I dislike the condensation of skills and augs, and some of the augs themselves aren't as good. Not good meaning effective, or useful, but good meaning utilities. In DX1, the augs supplemented your existing abilities for the most part, the augs in DX3 give you entirely new abilities.
