The rival is now apparently a humanoid form of Arceus that "descended from the heavens with the sole purpose of annihilating you." But whoever did this didn't bother to change the overworld sprites (only the battle sprites show her) or scripts so she pretty much looks and acts like Gary with the occasional bit of manipulated dialouge.

The starter pokemon are now a Dark-Fighting-Psychic triangle, and the pokemon appearances have been changed so Hoenn and Johto pokemon now appear alongside the changed Kanto set. (Doduos and Sentrets in route 1.)

It's actually very impressive, because i had the choice of spoink(psychic), poochena(dark) or mankey(fighting), and its still a combat advantage triangle
