But that's no excuse for them to not encrypt sensitive user data. Safes can be cracked, banks still keep your money in them, because it's safer there. By providing you a service in exchange for your personal information, it's then up to Sony to keep it safe, and they didn't do a very good job.
...Did you even read what I posted? No where did I defend them. I said it should be a consumer's RIGHT to expect companies in this day and age at least have it out for our personal information's safety, especially when said information is so sensitive. That is not excusing them from this debacle in the slightest. In fact it's a major infraction on the whole situation and the main point of the post.
Sony says that all of the CC information was encrypted, and many of the news reports that have been linked in this thread infer that the "malicious attack" has long been ceased, and the shut down was of their own (Sony's) doing. Several people in this thread, however, say that the CC information was not encrypted, that the attack is ongoing, and that the hacker is directly responsible for the shut down. What the hell is the truth, here? :v:

That being Sony and the hacker. However, Sony admitted that the personal information was unencrypted, so I doubt they would lie about one thing and not the other. However, last time I ran a test the credit card information being sent to the server is sent in an unencrypted format, so I don't see how it makes sense either way.

Just suffering the shockwaves at the moment as the hacker's going over all the info he managed to yank as it's obviously quite a lot. Sony shut down the PSN locking him/her out
No, apparently he didn't.
Stop trolling. I did read his post, I assumed what he meant by obtain it, even if you stay off the grid, was hacking. I'm sorry if I got confused. Edit:
Hay guyz, here's a lil' sumtin' to lighten ze mood [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/Q73jA.png[/img_thumb]
Nice, no doubt we will see that just as much as the no game one. :D
The attack is over, it's been over for a few days. Though I would laugh so hard if the hacker left Sony a virus, and they start the servers back up again without checking.
Fixed
Doesn't change the fact that the hacker cost Sony a shit ton of money and he got to walk off with a bunch of money. Sony shouldn't have to care, people should just leave them alone.
Stop trolling.
Please learn what trolling is.
Please learn what trolling is.
I know what trolling is. Your such a diva when your hungry, have a snickers.
I know what trolling is. Your such a diva when your hungry, have a snickers.
Obviously you don't. [editline]27th April 2011[/editline] disagreement =/= trolling [editline]27th April 2011[/editline] Honestly, people on this forum throw the word "trolling" around like it's fucking candy.
Obviously you don't. I hardly call that flaming and since when did one post = every post? And actually that's exactly what it is.
Uhh, last I checked not securing the financial and personal data of 77 million customers is something to care about.
What I'm saying is that hackers who hack for very wrong reasons shouldn't even be around. I know morons like them will always exist, but they really should just fuck off. They are causing more harm than good.
What I'm saying is that hackers who hack for very wrong reasons shouldn't even be around. I know morons like them will always exist, but they really should just fuck off. They are causing more harm than good.
That's hackers for you. Groups like Anonymous claim what they do is for the people, and I can agree with that on most of their actions. I'm not sure if Jihad is the same way, I don't know much about them other than they also said they didn't do this. But a majority of hackers really could care less about the innocent people they affect. And I see what your saying now. And yes, it would be great if Sony didn't have to worry about hackers stealing the information of their customers.
I hardly call that flaming and since when did one post = every post? Are you fucking serious with this shit? I was correct in my initial assessment of you.
If you have a problem with me, please pm or email me, I really doubt anyone else in this thread wants to read it.
You keep saying that but you aren't very good at taking your own advice. Besides I've already given you the answer to that anyway.
Like I said ages ago, if you have a problem with me, please pm or email me, I really doubt anyone else in this thread wants to read it.
I bought Undead Nightmare from the playstation store when it came out, and that's it. Hopefully my credit card info isn't stolen.
I bought Undead Nightmare from the playstation store when it came out, and that's it. Hopefully my credit card info isn't stolen.
It's not really dependent on how many items you bought, if you bought anything, the credit card you used to purchase it with is in their servers, meaning it did get stolen. But like I said before, your 1 out of 77 million people, it's not likely that you will be affected by it.
I bought Undead Nightmare from the playstation store when it came out, and that's it. Hopefully my credit card info isn't stolen.
I am leet hacker, let me answer you.
If (Credit Card Information was Used) = Yes Else = No

I am leet hacker.
Sure you are.

Some people have reported up to $1000 dollars in fraudulent charges already. It would suck to lose a few weeks of work to some hacker.
Honestly, people on this forum throw the word "trolling" around like it's fucking candy.
I throw candy much less often thanks but what is this I hear about netflix being vulnerable
We can relax a little guys, you credit card detailes may not even have been taken.
While all credit card information stored in our systems is encrypted and there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained. Keep in mind, however that your credit card security code[ (sometimes called a CVC or CSC number) has not been obtained because we never requested it from anyone who has joined the PlayStation Network or Qriocity, and is therefore not stored anywhere in our system.
source http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/27/qa-1-for-playstation-network-and-qriocity-services/
Yeah I received an email from PSN saying the exact same thing. Without the security code they really can't do anything with the credit card information right? [editline]28th April 2011[/editline]
then how come people are saying they've had money stolen? i dont get it
