wait so aaaalll those facepunch users saying their bank accounts were cleared out or had 4-500 dollars stolen just made it up? i'm confused as heck
Me too, concluding that WAY more than just one person was saying that.
Me too, concluding that WAY more than just one person was saying that.
I just thought you would be fully compensated it that DID happen to you. But apparently I'm a dumb bunny.
The only time i bought something on the PS3 was for the Metal Gear Online content, and that was all done outside the PSN at the time, On the Konami shop or something. And not the PSN shop. So i think im fine. ...Unless they got into the Konami shop aswell. Then perhaps maybe.
I just thought you would be fully compensated it that DID happen to you. But apparently I'm a dumb bunny.
Sony is not going to give you the money back if it gets stolen from you. That's your responsibility to stop by closely working with your bank.
wait so aaaalll those facepunch users saying their bank accounts were cleared out or had 4-500 dollars stolen just made it up? i'm confused as heck
It must have been medium to lower strength encryption. From all accounts this break in seemed to be in months of planning :v:
Doesn't change the fact that the hacker cost Sony a shit ton of money and he got to walk off with a bunch of money. Sony shouldn't have to care, people should just leave them alone.
Yes it does, they kept their records in plain text. They were asking for it if you ask me.
Uh when did this get added in?
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/5hXOJ.png[/img_thumb] Uh when did this get added in?
April 2011
April 2011
Well no shit, I mean was this added in the last few days or right before the shutdown.
Well, they haven't re-issued a ToS agreement thing this month. So I'd assume Post-PSN going down. Either way, no one has agreed to those terms so it's cool.
Yes it does, they kept their records in plain text. They were asking for it if you ask me.
It doesn't justify hacking into PSN and costing Sony 20 million+ dollars. It's fucking ridiculous and the hacker is a greedy basement dwelling asshole that does not care for anyone but himself.
They have stolen from everyone Full Name City State ZIP Mailing addresses Billing information Passwords Emails Sony is unsure if they have your credit card as well, Expiration date, and all info needed to go wild, it's honestly best to just get a new one or whatever. If you used the service even ONCE it's stored and the hackers have access to it Seriously, Seriously change passwords and such.
Ok, thanks for the info.
then how come people are saying they've had money stolen? i dont get it
I've been trying to substansiate the reports for the past day or two now. One of my girlfriend's friends claims his SISTER who uses her card only for PSN purchases and nothing else had money stolen. She also used the card for WoW at some point but has had her account closed since December. So either she's lying about what she uses it on to him, or some unforunate individuals got attacked. I posted earlier and there has been nothing in the way of intrusion on my CC info luckily. They've been on alert anyway to freeze it instantly for sudden large charges, sudden concurrent small charges, or very strange charges (ala outside the country etc) If anyone is likely to get hit first, it would probably be people like me who used an Amex card. Because if this IS some kind of rush grab for people's info, these people always hit the Amex cards first.
I don't have a PS3 but I feel sorry for you guys :saddowns:

Hundreds of people have already had money stolen from their accounts since this happened. Yes, this type of fraud is an everyday occurrence, but these are happening to people that used their cards with Sony, all at once, since the hack occurred. People keep saying that it's possible they don't have it, but that's because Sony hasn't confirmed it yet. Sony is waiting until their team checks to see if it was taken from the servers. This addition to the ToS makes Sony somewhat of an asshole, whether they are doing it for future hacks, or so that when people do agree to the new set, that they no longer can get refunded.
It doesn't justify hacking into PSN and costing Sony 20 million+ dollars. I however am saying that a lot of the stuff Sony has done justifies a hack, but not one like this. This one is targeting innocent PS3 users. I would have loved to see Sony hacked for removing OtherOS, sure nobody used it, and that's okay. But when they brought charges against George Hotz for bringing it back, they went too far. And when they started trying to get a subpoena to get a list of all the people that downloaded his patch. They really went too far. They deserved to be hacked, but not like this.
sorry if this has been answered already but so many posts cant read, anyone know when they will be up again?
sorry if this has been answered already but so many posts cant read, anyone know when they will be up again?
It has already been answered. Around a week.
Yeah, Sony shouldn't be allowed to try and protect their assets. Fuck them for fighting back. [editline]28th April 2011[/editline] Hackers are fighting the good fight!

[editline]28th April 2011[/editline] Hackers are fighting the good fight!
I assume your talking about them taking legal action against George Hotz. I didn't know not having OtherOS was an asset. Or removing any other features that the PS3 originally had for that matter. I also didn't know trying to find everyone who downloaded the patch to restore the features that Sony took away falls under "protecting their assets".
sorry if this has been answered already but so many posts cant read, anyone know when they will be up again?
"within a week" of yesterday.
So apparently Sony did have the credit card information encrypted. The FBI has been in close contact with them over this whole thing, and from what I understand, this was confirmed independently by the FBI, so I further question those who claim "fraud" as being trolls, as they and Sony are urging people NOT to cancel their credit cards just yet and just be vigilant. You will get your money back subject to the way the back regulates and handles situations like these (which more often than not means you'll be fine because they're on the ball with fraud). http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-13231307 [editline]28th April 2011[/editline] Oh and Latest news from Sony: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/27/qa-1-for-playstation-network-and- PSN should be back by 5/3 or May 3rd, a week ahead of Brink's release. All services may not be back up on that date. Looks likely everything will be up by 5/10 though. Passwords will have to be changed when the PSN is back up. There may be new features as well since they're rebuilding the network. Firmware will definitely jump to at least 3.61. Additional details are available on the official blog posts.

Oh thank god. Honestly far to many people on forums are claiming to be missing money, and I highly doubt one guy is ROBBING EVERYONE. I've felt it fishy but oh well, good to hear on that part. Updated the OP as well
It was encrypted, but the encryption key was the same as the PS3 signing key AFAIK which has been leaked for months (IIRC) already... soo yeah.
This is bullshit. 1. How could you know what the encryption code is. 2. Why would Sony actively describe the code to decrypt *anything* Sony aren't going to say "The password to our vault was the PS3 signing key, so the info is out there". You're basically assuming everything.
Sweet. I'm getting a PS3 for my birthday on May 2nd.

Damn! I leave to a trip to Quebec City that day! :smith:
Oh lookie! CC companies have also independently confirmed no compromised activity related to the breach. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6310570.html?tag=latestheadlines%3Btitle%3B1 So stop panicking people. Anything you read about stolen information on the net is now most certainly a lie from either fanboys or trolls (or COMPLETELY unrelated to the situation and is a result of other people's negligence).
http://psx-scene.com/forums/f6/psn-database-containing-2-2million-credit-cards-now-up-sale-85702/ Scare mongery imo, but you need to know jic.
