Read this
While not a important update as most people would hope they found a file that was added to the online service, simply titled "Anonymous" and opening it showed the tag line "We are legion", Sony is now blaming it on Anonymous who in return is insisting they had nothing to do with it for once claiming it's just a scapegoat that someone used to put them blame on them. They're genuinely angry at being blamed.
AnonOps claimed no involvement, they didn't deny that other members of Anonymous could've done it.
Anonymous isn't a group.
This shit is pissing me off. I didn't blow $300 on your system just to be severely limited to what I can actually do with it. Today was the last day I expected it to be up, and it sure as fuck isn't looking like it. Can't fucking wait for the article that says it's going to be mid-june.

They implied no such thing. They said they were going to extreme measures to distance themselves from this situation. "members of Anonymous" anyone can be anonymous, trying to contradict with that is a moot task.
Sony is ready to put PSN back up
After some more internal testing the service will be fully returned but it is finished.
Within the "Coming days" according to Sony..
I think some kind of PSN withdrawal is nailing me. I've posted more times on Facepunch in the last week than I have the rest of the year due to cut contact with my buddies. I miss them and Netflix.
OH LOOK GUYS.

The EXACT SAME THINGS they've been saying for the past two and a half weeks except this time signed by some guy named "Howard Stringer" (most likely ghostwritten by his secretary)!
And another juicy delay/broken promise at the end!

Do you even own a PS3? How can you not know who Howard Stringer is?
you should stop assuming things
Why should I? They've lied the first few times.
"Coming days" implies plural. Not tomorrow then, highly doubtful by saturday or sunday, we're probably looking midweek.
I've spent the most spare money i've had in awhile on this thing recently and so far it's been next to useless because of this. MGS4 and Valkyria Chronicles can only last so long.

no the bit about Stinger and his letter
I don't see, in any way whatsoever, how that information could be derived from that letter, therefore a bad assumption fueled by blind hatred

CEOs usually don't take personal time to write anything, much less an appeal to a bunch of pissed off gamers on a blog.
They have more important things to worry about like not having their company run into the ground by a bunch of goons from Kazakhstan.
I was hoping it would have been restored by now.
Dissapointing.

considering how big this actually is I would be surprised if Stinger didn't write this
besides it doesn't take a long time to write a letter
also this isn't confined to the Playstation blog - it's on various other big gaming sites as well
Do you even own a PS3? How can you not know who Howard Stringer is?
I own a PS3 and i don't know who that is.

I haven't been on top of the console industry in a long time.
Or much of ever, really. Sure I own the three big ones but they're pretty much substitutes for what my medicore PC can't do.
Do you even own a PS3? How can you not know who Howard Stringer is?
I've literally never heard that name before and I've owned one of every 'playstation' brand console

so these hackers will apparently hack into Sony and release customer data to the public
now what good would that do? even the hackers wouldn't benefit from doing something like this
it's pointless

Mayhem to cause mayhem.
Any 'chaotic good' hacker trying to prove something wouldn't have stolen anything in the first place.
Hmm, I like the use of D&D alignment.
We're dealing with some Chaotic Evil Hackers.
Well this is gonna go south fast
Unless it's a bunch of idiots who had nothing to do with it pretending they're the hacker
My main question is:
Are they really working on getting servers and such back online? Or are they just saying that between their hour long coffee breaks?

Ask yourself. What benefit would come from this?

It's to make Sony look even worse. Because, since they don't have anyone to point fingers at, the general public will default to the "it's sonys fault they have all our info :("
I've kind of had fun with the PSN down.
Completed and platinum trophied Assassin's creed 2, Started and quit bioshock 2 (selling it asap), got a bunch of trophies on both RDR and bayonetta. Can't wait to play battlefield BC2 online again though.

Great idea guys, threaten another attack while the fucking FBI are involved and monitoring it to help figure out who attacked in the first place.
it's a bluff.
it's back online!
