The fan must have been broken for a while, I'd noticed stuttering and micro-tearing, even when playing single player games, then, after a while I got the yellow light of death.

I hope they put discounts on everything. I want to buy FFVII (discs don't work and I only have 2 out of 3 of them), VIII (never played it) and maybe IX (although I'm playing through it already using the original discs on the ps3)

God that would be nice. I contemplated buying FFVII, but couldn't justify the price at the time thanks to other games.

I dont care, people have been saying it for weeks now, maybe if they actually upped their security to begin with, regardless of clairvoyance of knowing this would happen or not, then there wouldnt be the issue to begin with.

Companies cannot see into the future, the PSN has been secure for nearly or over 5 years (when did the PS3 launch again?). After that kind of time span you wouldn't expect this to happen at all. They have rebuilt, relaunched and stabilized and worldwide network within 3 to 4 weeks since a [B]major[/B] attack. That is some kind of record, as almost any kind of network takes ages to build, and one of that scale could have taken months to rebuild.
Basically, sit down, shut up, and wait for them to finish making sure everything is working and ready for use.
Sorry for the bump, but I heard from some guy on another forum I go to that the PS3 security problem is pretty much unsolvable because some security chip in the PS3 was hacked into. This is pretty much what he said:

I'm pretty sure he's right. I don't know exactly but I'm pretty sure there was a piece of code that allowed you to play any game by inputting a randomly generated key or something. Essentially Sony is screwed.
Hardware has nothing to do with network and security things. The unsolvability of that is something that has been known for many months and people are well aware of it not being patchable.

Another attack is heading for Sony, claiming to be the "beginning of the end for Sony". The hacking group now has a face (and a Twitter). They've recently attacked the PBS site releasing passwords and putting up fake stories.
